I love Little Bird's philosophy - raw, organic, health-giving meals - and think that Megan May is a…read moregenius but their prices for takeaway salads in Britomart are preeeeetty steep. $14.50 for cold courgette pasta w rocket & parmesan? $18 for a bird bowl salad? I don't know many people who could justify those prices for a takeaway salad! Prices aside, the food is delicious. The Britomart Store also stocks both the Little Bird products (try the macaroons - hard to believe they are healthy) and other products that fit in line with their ethos. Definitely worth checking out and if not picking up a salad, then trying one of their sweet treats.

I went for a passion fruit cheesecake it was nice, but after sitting down at the rather small table . Notwithstanding this place is more of a eat on the run type , I wished I had gone for a chocolaty type of slice or cake . They also sell takeaway salads which seem to be a substantial amount , but I've seen the same for less at other cafes . And you can buy bottled nut milks or tonics and if you return bottle you can get a small refund/ discount on your next bottled drink . That being said this idea of cuisine is new and original and as more people feel the need to be healthier for whatever reasons they will continue to exsist .

This market gets forgotten at times I think as the La Cigale markets are much larger and have a…read morecafe and this market is in a carpark behind the Jubilee building. Don't let this put you off, it may be small but what is on offer is very good. The first time I came I needed picnic supplies, I have to say I got most of it from here. Pukeko bakery have a stall here, I love their bread and I bought a very nice ciabatta and some other artisan delights and moved on to the cheese man. I myself don't eat cheese, it was for someone else but to let you know, he has cheeses to sample and it all smelt rather good. Not knowing anything about cheese I just asked him to tell me what his favourite was and I bought that. There is fresh produce which was superior to that of which I have seen at other markets. There was a man there selling honey, someone else had conserves and dips, overall I thought the quality of what was on offer was really good. Like a boutique market. The dog cookie people were here too, the same ones who go to the Grey Lynn and French markets, my dog loves the blueberry cookies and licorice cookie twists from here. Check this one out, only on Saturdays though!

Parking was an issue. Great variety of vendors. My first day in NZ (flew in overnight) and when I passed the donut vendor, she was taking pictures of her wares and I remarked, what a good idea, they're lovely and I took a picture too, and slavered over them a bit more, but thought about the calories and started to move on, and an old man called me out saying you shouldn't take a picture unless you're going to buy something. I wasn't sure how to respond, but the vendor was super nice and said no worries. So, the picture is attached here to make you salivate too! :-)
