The Original Pancake House is a Birmingham classic, and for good reason! Their food is predictable, delicious, and well-priced. In addition to this, the staff is friendly and pretty flexible on accommodations. I visited on a Wednesday morning, and there were about 7 other tables filled. In the past, when I went on a weekend, I usually had to wait around 15-20 minutes for a table, so if you are able to, I recommend visiting on a weekday. Today I got the vegan sausage, eggs, and pancake combination. It came with two eggs, two pieces of sausage, and three pancakes, which was plenty of food. I ended up bringing home my leftover pancakes, and they heated up quite nicely in the microwave when I ate them later. They also provide ramekins for different sauces and syrups if you want to bring any home, which was very nice. Our server was very kind and proactive at refilling water, checking on us, and getting the check to us quickly, especially because he knew that we had to leave relatively quickly. I also love the ambiance of The Original Pancake House. The seating, artwork, and general atmosphere provide a sense of hominess and southern charm. The seating can be a bit cramped, and I think it's better to have party sizes less than eight, otherwise you may get turned away or have to sit at separate tables. I'm a little biased because this place is one of my favorite breakfast spots. I love how fast I can get in and out even if they're really busy. The service is always amazing. When I visited today, we were seated shortly after we walked in. I ordered coffee to drink and the sausage and eggs which comes with pancakes. I'm always nervous that my order will be messed up because I'm a substitution queen, but everything came out just how I ordered it. I swapped the buttermilk pancakes for sourdough because it's significantly less calories for more food. I also swapped the pork sausage out for turkey sausage, and I ordered my eggs scrambled well. Everything came out perfectly. The sausage and eggs come with 2 eggs, two pieces of sausage and three buttermilk pancakes. Because I swapped for sourdough, I got five pancakes instead of three. Of course I couldn't eat it all, but that just means more for later. You have to pay those crooks at Municipal Parking to get a space anywhere near there. Add minimum $20 to your meal, because if you underestimate the wait (which is long here) the fine is $115. Yesterday, my boyfriend and I went to The Original Pancake House with his parents for a family breakfast. We arrived at the restaurant at around 10 AM and were seated immediately since there was barely any customers at the restaurant just yet. We were all given water with ice, as well as a few minutes to decide what we wanted to eat. I chose to get the two by four special that included scrambled eggs with cheese and a half order of pecan pancakes with a glass of orange juice. This order is always my go to order whenever I come to the restaurant. The eggs are always hot and fresh when served, and the pecan pancakes are always sweet and warm. The server we had was very nice and very accommodating with my in law's service dog. He was always checking on us to make sure we were enjoying our meal! The length of the wait time was about twenty minutes but the food was worth the wait. The utensils and plates used were reusable, but the to go boxes and straws were not eco friendly. The ambiance of the restaurant was pretty calm which allowed me to enjoy my meal whilst being in conversation with my boyfriend and his family. I went to the Original Pancake house in Five Points this past week. The place definitely had a very classic feel to it that I really enjoyed. I got the strawberry waffle because strawberries are one of my favorite fruits. The compote was fresh and the waffles were golden brown and fluffy. Definitely worth coming back for. I got a side of the thick cut bacon and a side of grits. The place was great I guess my only complaint was that the servers were a little non-attentive but it really was not all that bad. Not bad enough to not come back. I highly recommend this place for an after church breakfast spot or just a nice weekend breakfast spot in general. There are a lot of options including eggs and crepes, but I went for the best selling pancake, the sour dough pancake. They didn't disappoint.
