A place with a super corn dog is definitely a place I want to eat at. When I arrived, this place was busy. The parking lot across the street was full, but luckily I found a spot nearby. They had lots of tables and benches to sit and eat outside. I ordered a Super Pup, a sausage and cheddar pup, and a large tater tots. The Super Pup was huge. Just like the Hamburger, there are debates as to who invented the first Corn Dog. Was it in Rockaway Beach, Oregon, or in Texas? Was it the 1930's or 1940's? Research appears to support Rockaway Beach, Oregon on Labor Day weekend in 1939. Though this appears to have been created in 1939, it wasn't until 2016 that the Original Pronto Pup opened in 2016 in Rockaway Beach, Oregon. Unfortunately, it wasn't until 2025 when I first visited this location and 2026 when I wrote this review. As I was growing up, my grandma regularly made pronto pubs for me in Billings, Montana and they were amazing. Of course, we would always go to Montana Fair and have corn dogs. I think we both went there just to eat. My mom and I would go to a stand along runway 28R at Portland International Airport back in the day to have a corn dog and watch airplanes lands. Hoping to see a 747. One day we were luckily enough to see the Concorde. The Original Pronto Pub in Rockaway Beach never has disappointed. These Pronto Pups are prepared to perfection. A great wiener, perfect batter, and fried perfectly. If you've ever been here during the summer, you would know why this place is so popular. Though fries are often an afterthought, they are perfect battered fries, fried to perfection. Ordering a Pronto Pup, some fries, and a root beer will never disappoint and won't break the bank as it shouldn't! On our drive down the Oregon coast, we came across Pronto Pup which instantly made us remember the beloved Pronto Pup in Grand Haven, MI. I love this place. Pronto Pups are such an American icon. Their menu is more diverse than I expected - I had 2 pups, a spicy Louisiana style and a zucchini. The spicy had a fair amount of heat, and a lot of flavor. The zucchini pup was a little bland, but it allowed me to really taste the corn in the batter. This place is popular. The photos were taken at about 11:30 and the place was packed, but the line moves pretty well. Don't overlook the ice cream for desert. It is a DQ-style soft serve, and the flavor is excellent. I'm so glad I was finally able to get to stop for a corn dog - AND A PICKLE PUP - since every time I've been in the area previously, it's been outside of business hours. Corn dogs have been a favorite treat of mine since childhood - which I am well outside of at this point - so to be able to say I've eaten where they originated is pretty dang special! Of the two items ordered, I surprisingly preferred the original. I say 'surprisingly' because I'm a pickle girlie and was 100% prepared to fawn over the pickle pup. For me, I think the Pickle Pup lacked in cornbread to pickle proportions, and that's what lead to the Original beating it out. I wasn't able to finish both, though, and when reheated the next day, I split the pickle dog in half and ate the rest of the cornbread with half of the pickle and that was *chef's kiss* perfect! So was the other 'naked' half of the pickle that I thoroughly enjoyed too. No regrats. The ranch though? Tell me it's not homemade - for one (selfish) reason, and one reason only: I need to be able to buy it close to home! If it is homemade - I need to figure out a better delivery system than driving a couple hours each way. I'd probably finish a container of it on the drive home. First time experience and I have to say the owner was extremely rude! It was 5:25 and we went inside and so did a few other customers as it was getting cold outside. The stools where sitting upside down on the counter wood bar and a couple next to us decided to put them on the ground to sit on them. The owner comes out and tells them and I quote" The dining room is closed" Customer responds " are you serious " Owner with a real pissed off look " that's why the stools are up" I could not believe how rude he was.
