One thing that really stood out was how reasonably priced everything here is! From the different types/sizes of the corndogs, sides, drinks to the soft serve, everything was between $2-$8 which was so refreshing in a tourist-y town where most would up charge. They had a small parking lot across from the building and some street parking available. You can't really miss it because of the giant corn dog on the roof. Small space inside but it's open and had those fun black and white checkered flooring with plenty of outdoor picnic tables to dine in. Service was friendly. You order at the register and they will call your name to pick up your order/bring your order to you. The moment of truth was that I knew they pride themselves on the (allegedly) very first corndogs and now their batter is the key to their accomplishment. However...the salty pancake batter on the outside really didn't work for me...it was too salty. Which was a bummer for sure. We got our daughter the kiddie dog ($2) and original ($4) and spicy ($4) and unfortunately for us the saving grace was the sweet ketchup to dip in to help balance out the saltiness. The fry sauce was great though. The soft serve was the perfect treat to end the salty meal though. Get the swirl! There was also a corn dog ride for the kids but a great photo op when visiting.. I would say it's definitely worth a visit if you are in Rockaway Beach!
Such a fun stop! Definitely an icon on the Oregon coast. We stopped in for a smaller midday snack and this was the perfect place. Plenty of parking on the road or in the small lot in the back. It was busy but service was organized and we ordered the specialty dog and a spicy sausage with a side of tots. Can't beat a good corn dog! They also had the usual ketchup, mustard, and fry sauce. A couple of cool merch too. Lots of outdoor seating and it was fun watching people ride the corn dog as well.
Visiting the original Pronto Pup makes you realize how corn dogs got kicked off as a thing, and why they once had nationwide distribution. The pancake-like batter is delightful, lighter and far more flavorful than your generic corn dog. They also have multiple vegetarian options, not something you'd necessarily expect. I had the veggie hot dog one just to get the experience, and my sweetie had the special sausage. Both were good, although next time I'll try the zucchini. If you're in Rockaway, this is a must-visit. Parking at lunchtime is a bit of a challenge though.
Worth the stop. Options available. Staff were friendly. Food was good. Fries have nice crunch. Soft serve for after. They have a footlong!!
Driving along the coast and saw people lined up for a pronto pup! Now I know why! This was perfect for a snack while driving up the Oregon coast! A definite must stop!
I live for a good corn dog / pronto pup. We have a vacation home in Rockaway and we were so excited when the opened. Our 1st visit many years back.... The pronto pups were so salty we had to put them down after a few bites. Our 2nd visit within the last two weeks ( hoping that maybe there was a mishap in the process like too much salt was added to the batter? ) but nothing had changed. Extremely salty and we had to toss them out. It seems like the dogs and pups at the State Fair set the standard. Super fun place but if your not a fan of heavy salt in your meal be forewarned.
A place with a super corn dog is definitely a place I want to eat at. When I arrived, this place was busy. The parking lot across the street was full, but luckily I found a spot nearby. They had lots of tables and benches to sit and eat outside. I ordered a Super Pup, a sausage and cheddar pup, and a large tater tots. The Super Pup was huge. It was double the size of the Regular Pup and girthier too. The batter was seasoned well, and the meat was tasty. I always have to get tater tots when they have them, and they were crispy and seasoned well. The fry sauce they offer was delicious. If you had a chance to ride a corn dog, you would right? Most definitely.
Just like the Hamburger, there are debates as to who invented the first Corn Dog. Was it in Rockaway Beach, Oregon, or in Texas? Was it the 1930's or 1940's? Research appears to support Rockaway Beach, Oregon on Labor Day weekend in 1939. Though this appears to have been created in 1939, it wasn't until 2016 that the Original Pronto Pup opened in 2016 in Rockaway Beach, Oregon. Unfortunately, it wasn't until 2025 when I first visited this location and 2026 when I wrote this review. As I was growing up, my grandma regularly made pronto pubs for me in Billings, Montana and they were amazing. Of course, we would always go to Montana Fair and have corn dogs. I think we both went there just to eat. My mom and I would go to a stand along runway 28R at Portland International Airport back in the day to have a corn dog and watch airplanes lands. Hoping to see a 747. One day we were luckily enough to see the Concorde. The Original Pronto Pub in Rockaway Beach never has disappointed. These Pronto Pups are prepared to perfection. A great wiener, perfect batter, and fried perfectly. If you've ever been here during the summer, you would know why this place is so popular. Though fries are often an afterthought, they are perfect battered fries, fried to perfection. Ordering a Pronto Pup, some fries, and a root beer will never disappoint and won't break the bank as it shouldn't! If you find yourself near Tillamook, Garibaldi, Rockaway Beach, or any coastal town near the area in Oregon, stop by the Original Pronto Pub. It's busy for a reason and you will not be disappointed. This is truly a great place! The service here has always been friendly and the atmosphere may be a counter inside or eating on a picnic outside during the summer. Sit back, relax, and enjoy a Pronto Pup. You won't be disappointed! Enjoy!
My brother and I ordered the original pup, the spicy pup, small tator tots, and small fries. We wanted to have half & half tator tots and fries, but they couldn't do that unfortunately. A small tator tots and a small fries were more than enough on top of the pups we got. Everything came out piping hot and had amazing crisp. The original pup was probably one of the best corndogs I had! The beef hotdog they used was really good. The batter of the corn dog was nice and crispy. My brother said the spicy pup sausage had a good snap. It's got a good kick and flavor, and a good quality sausage.
Great spot to stop for a bite. The corn dogs are fried to perfection the batter is not overly thick. Service was friendly and welcoming. The stand had seating inside and out loved all the pictures from back when the stand originated. The prices are reasonable and the sauce ooh the sauce was great. Recommend grabbing the house sauce.
While wandering the coast with my daughter and her husband I insisted on a stop here. How often do you get to visit an apparent founding place of a food type! Parking was in a gravel lot across the way and I am glad we stopped before 'lunch time'! it became crowded! It was unassuming but interesting. Some memorabilia around as well as history. So many choices too! I had to go with the original since, well, it was the original! The service was quick and we got our pups. We enjoyed them on the available benches outside! They were good. The original dog, to me at least, tasted line a corn bread wrapped dog. Yum! Diving by or just going out of your way a bit I'd recommend a stop!
Pretty damn good corn dogs. The cheesey pup is bomb too ! Affordable, quick (if it's not crazy busy ) and the service is sweet. A must stop for a snack when on the coast
On our drive down the Oregon coast, we came across Pronto Pup which instantly made us remember the beloved Pronto Pup in Grand Haven, MI. With a very cool and inviting giant corn dog on the rooftop and a corndog ride at the entrance, we just had to stop by to check it out. Here's my take on the experience: Quality of food: Great. We tried the original Pronto Pup and a side of tater tots. The Pronto Pup is made using a secret batter that makes the corn dog extra crispy. The tater tots were very generous size and super crispy and fresh. The secret dipping sauce was a great sauce to dip the tots in. Décor: pretty casual. There isn't much to see inside the place as it is more of a quick service restaurant. There are some cool displays about the history of how this beloved local quick service restaurant was founded. Cleanliness: good. All the areas looked cleaned even though we didn't see the staff doing any regular cleanups. Service: good. The kid taking the order was very friendly and quick. Price: a little....pricey for $4?!? This is based on the same Pronto Pup that is served in Grand Haven, MI for $2. I know it's a different state but paying double for something very familiar just felt a bit...strange. If you're in the mood for some freshly fried corn dog and tater tots then you must stop by at Pronto Pup in Rockaway Beach, OR.
More often than not, I feel that corn dogs are one of those foods that are widely available but rarely spectacular. However, Pronto Pup does not mess around when it comes to corn dogs. They've been around for 80+ years and are considered by many as the originator of the corn dog. Compared to the common sweet cornmeal batter, Pronto Pups uses a more savory batter and it is quite delicious. My girlfriend and I got a Super Pup, Cheesy Pup, a small fry and fountain drinks. To put it lightly, I still dream about that first bite into this corndog. Freshly fried, crispy yet not overly greasy on both the Super Pup and Cheesy Pup. The small fry was generously packed and was plenty for the both of us. A must try is their fry sauce, as it's the most elegantly prepared fry sauce I've ever tasted with a plethora of spices added to it. Everything was great and even though it was quite busy when we visited, we got our food quickly. The only downside: we live so far away that we can't readily visit anytime we get a craving for a seriously good corn dog. read more

It's crispy, fluffy and buttery. -Spicy pup's sausage has a good bite to it -Plenty of parking with quick turnover -The line may be long, but it moved quite quickly! -Clean establishment with friendly staff! This was such a fun stop and definitely a must do if you're in the area. The place was packed and I did have to wait a few minutes to get a parking spot in the lot across the street. After waiting in line, we ordered the Super Pup, the smoked sausage and cheddar pup, and a side of tater tots. Everything tasted good. The pups had a sweet and savory coating and the smoked sausage and cheddar was definitely my favorite. The tots were nice and crispy, just the way I like them. The restaurant was packed inside and out and it was a warm day. We were lucky enough to get a table in the shade, but we noticed a lot of people standing around and waiting while just one or two people were occupying a whole table. I offered to share ours with a couple of people and they ended up being incredibly nice. We chatted with them while we ate and left a little earlier than we probably would have because a woman with a baby was standing in the sun and I felt they need to get up and offer her our spot. Share your tables, people! You might just make a new friend while eating your corn dog. This is obviously an iconic spot that stays busy, but don't let that deter you. You should definitely stop here and try them out. I'm so glad we did. The super pup ridiculously huge. It was almost silly and it was a fun item to get, but it was a little hard to eat and especially to finish. It was a total novelty but I'm so glad we tried it. read more

Was passing through town and obviously had to try the original corn dog (pup). I had to park a little ways away because their lot was full. The service was very friendly and the pups were ready fairly quickly. Everything was very fresh and delicious. There are a few picnic tables outside to sit and enjoy your food and the vibe. This is a must stop if you are passing through. read more
The original home of the corn dog did not disappoint! Super friendly staff and quick service (we came at 2:30pm on a Saturday). We tried the veggie sausage dog, mozzarella dog, zucchini dog, and fries and they were all very tasty. My favorite was the mozzarella dog with the marinara sauce and my husbands was the zucchini dog with the ranch. The owner came over and gave us a little cup of tomato soup to go with the mozzarella and zucchini dog which was very kind and a great pairing! Don't skip on the fry sauce and mustard + honey combo, and make sure to get a pic on the mechanical corn dog! read more

I love this place. Pronto Pups are such an American icon. Their menu is more diverse than I expected - I had 2 pups, a spicy Louisiana style and a zucchini. The spicy had a fair amount of heat, and a lot of flavor. The zucchini pup was a little bland, but it allowed me to really taste the corn in the batter. This place is popular. The photos were taken at about 11:30 and the place was packed, but the line moves pretty well. Don't overlook the ice cream for desert. It is a DQ-style soft serve, and the flavor is excellent. I'd like to try the foot-long next time, but a guy at the table next to us ordered one and it looked massive. Speaking of tables, there's about a dozen tables outside, but no protection from the sun or rain, so this is a fair weather stop unless you want to eat in your car. read more

Didn't realize I was eating at a historical site where the corn dog originated! Great prices, non-meat options, and the whole vibe of the place takes you back to simpler times. Mostly outdoor seating. Good spot to grab and go! Long line on a Saturday but service didn't take too long. read more

THE ORIGINAL CORNDOG IT IS! I haven't had a corndog for yearssss so this was by far the most delightful experience ever. The staff is friendly, the woman working the orders and cash register complimented my overalls and flowered shirt! My bf really wanted to try this so we all went. Him, myself and his mom tried the original corndog (this is 100% beef) while his dad had the veggie corndog! The corndogs are actually called "pups" and the menu is dirt cheap. $4 for a corndog and if you wanted the super one, it's $9. They serve different corndogs, including a cheesy corndog and they also serve fries/tots and soft serve ice cream! This works if you want a quick snack or lunch. The corndogs were juicy and the breading was good. Wasn't soggy or tasted like freezer corndogs or ones at the fair. These were really super delicious! There is a location in Seaside as well! read more

We visited on 6/12/26 I was standing inside and had on my shirt that read Chihuahuafather, and I man, didn't know he was an employee, asked my dogs and if the wanted a treat, I said, they are kinda picky. I'm so glad I was finally able to get to stop for a corn dog - AND A PICKLE PUP - since every time I've been in the area previously, it's been outside of business hours. Corn dogs have been a favorite treat of mine since childhood - which I am well outside of at this point - so to be able to say I've eaten where they originated is pretty dang special! Of the two items ordered, I surprisingly preferred the original. I say 'surprisingly' because I'm a pickle girlie and was 100% prepared to fawn over the pickle pup. For me, I think the Pickle Pup lacked in cornbread to pickle proportions, and that's what lead to the Original beating it out. I wasn't able to finish both, though, and when reheated the next day, I split the pickle dog in half and ate the rest of the cornbread with half of the pickle and that was *chef's kiss* perfect! So was the other 'naked' half of the pickle that I thoroughly enjoyed too. No regrats. The ranch though? Tell me it's not homemade - for one (selfish) reason, and one reason only: I need to be able to buy it close to home! If it is homemade - I need to figure out a better delivery system than driving a couple hours each way. I'd probably finish a container of it on the drive home. The gals who were working were super sweet too... they were attentive, kind & efficient, and actually seemed to enjoy one another's company, which is sometimes difficult to find in smaller shops lately. I was excited to try a Pronto Pup at the original location. The day I ordered there were four people working. A girl working the register, a young guy working the hot dog fryer, a young girl working the tater tot fryer, and what appeared to be a manager or trainer. The two working the fryers were chit-chatting the whole time. Now, I'm all for young love, but it took a what seemed like a ridiculously long time to cook my food since it wasn't crazy busy. Here's where the serious disappointment came into play. I took the food to the Rockaway Center where you can sit and eat at a table by the beach. The Pronto Pub coating was so thin and they cooked it for so long that it pulled away from the hot dog and it was like chewing on a thin piece of leather. It was hard to bite through and made it taste and feel stale. The tater tots were fine, a little overcooked, but not bad. I thought okay maybe this is just how they make Pronto Pups. So, I looked up some pictures today and it appears that the rest of them are like what I had anticipated which is a thick corn dog like breading that looks crispy on the outside and has a thicker, soft breading inside and connected to the hot dog. Horribly disappointed by the experience. This Pronto Pup never should have been made or sold this way. And, it's not like I make it out to Rockaway Beach every other day to rectify the situation. read more

The pronto pup was delicious! The lady taking order was very nice, but only having one person taking orders made it very slow. It was a busy Saturday and overall we waited about 45 minutes for our order. read more
Service was amazing...even gave our dog a treat. Indoor and outdoor seating available even though the food is very portable. We enjoyed the crunch on the corn dogs and that they had other varieties like cheese and zucchini available as well...but take some care that your food stays on the stick...bit wobbly. Affordable snacks. Soft serve ice cream is also an option here. Fun time. read more

It's now open year round, hours change during the winter since it's not as busy. Check Google or rockawayprontopup.com for their hours.
