I had Dr Padley and could not be happier. A real down to earth guy. Spent plenty of time with me explaining what my shoulder problem entailed. I ended up needing rotator cuff repair. Every appointment I went to was on time. Seems like you never wait long here. Great bedside manner. Just comes off as a real caring Dr. Not much more to say other than my shoulder feels great 3-1/2 months post-surgery. Just went on a golf trip and played great! read more

I'm writing a review of the physical therapy I've received at TOCA Tempe. I broke four bones in my foot in early November, and saw Dr. Johnsen at other TOCA locations. No surgery was needed; just rest and immobilization. In early January, two months after the bones were broken, I graduated out of the cast and out of the walking boot and into physical therapy. My physical therapist was Heather B. and she was fantastic! During the sessions, I mostly worked with her assistant Marcus to go through my exercise routines. Heather would take over at the end of the appointment for an assessment and foot rub (the footrub made it all worth it!!). Both Heather and Marcus were kind and patient throughout the experience, making my PT sessions as painless as possible. I noticed a huge difference between my first and last PT visit. Day 1, I couldn't even walk on my broken foot. By the end of my PT sessions, I could hop, balance on one foot, do calf raises, and all kinds of normal activities. I still haven't tried to run, but I'm not much of a runner anyway... you'll only catch me running in case of an emergency. My foot still hurts everyday, but Heather said it's normal and the pain will continue to decrease over time. It's been 5 months since I broke my foot. I'm very happy with the recovery I've made so far, and I know that the physical therapy I received here contributed significantly. I hope I won't ever need PT again, but if I do, I'll return to TOCA and (hopefully!) see Heather again. 5/5 stars! read more

This is a review for their Phoenix location that is owned by the same group. First, the doctor ordered blood work and they NEVER called to give me the findings. Second, DO NOT purchase any DME (durable medical equipment) from them. I was given a lace up ankle brace and was not able to ask what my out of pocket expense would be due to their billing department not being available because of COVID. Already knowing that the SAME, most expense item, on Amazon was $30, I went ahead and signed for it. 3 weeks later I received a bill for $209! Almost a TWO THOUSAND PERCENT MARKUP!! I have no complaints about the doctor, but their business practices are criminal!! read more

This was my experience here (I went for arm pain): Visit 1) Waited over an hour (pre-covid) to be taken back to the room. Saw what I presume was a PA or Nurse, who did a write up and ordered XRays. Another 30 minute wait. Finally see doctor (Netto). No mention or apology for the tardiness or wait. He does a few exams, asks a few questions, says he doesn't see anything in XRays, orders an EMG. Hadn't barely left the office before TOCA began text messages asking for a glowing review of the experience and my doctor. Who, by the way, had a pathetic bedside manner. But clearly he was behind that day, so I forgave it, we all have bad days. The paperwork for the EMG says the test could cause "mild discomfort". If, by mild discomfort, they mean something equivalent to a new experimental form of torture, then I guess that's about right. For anyone unfamiliar, it involved sticking needles into my arm and shooting electrical shocks into them. I was bruised all over my hands and arms the next day. It was miserable. But at least I didn't wait an hour in that office. This doctor was fine, but also not overly forthcoming with the pain this test causes. Sat in the exam room for over 30 minutes waiting for my test while it sounded like he was transcribing the test he had just completed prior to mine. You have to sit with your hands and arms wrapped in hot gel pads, so it's not comfortable AT all. They SERIOUSLY need to space these out further...I didn't come to sit while you transcribe dude. Finally return to Tempe office, even though I see no point as the EMG person stated my test was Normal, so basically paid for an office visit for Netto to say he "couldn't help me." The way he said it was as if I was some lost cause, which made me feel like a total jerk. Then the billing department manages to lose my payments made via my HSA, as they told me they were bought out by Banner, but they completely lied and told me they had received the check, it just hadn't been processed. A week later, they change their minds and tell me the check has not been received and could I email them a copy proving it's been cashed. Basic nightmare even attempting to get through to talk to anyone in Billing as it's back east and we're here in AZ. Even during business hours nobody picks up. They had the auto-dialer calling me and were sending me to collections for an account I had paid. Just my experience, hope others have had better. People who check me in are very polite and friendly. read more

Got bad service from the scheduling people, they schedule patients for doctors who can't even help you even though they know why you were visiting. And this is after they canceled the appointment on me and then rescheduled me for a doctor who couldn't even help me... Resulted in losing three weeks of treatment. If you can find another clinic. read more

Dr Haber was my hand surgeon and I have been very happy with him. His surgery went great and his PA is very nice as well. I have been to the tempe location twice, each in the morning. Parking has been plentiful each time I have been here. The first time I waited 10 mins, the second was only 5 minutes. Check in staff has been nice and it has been a great, seamless process for me. read more

Wow, I don't know why this place got such bad reviews. I will start off with a negative, is that the Tempe location has almost an extra 30 minutes wait if you come in the afternoon. I would recommend their Phoenix location which is better managed. I went to see Dr. Anikar Chhabra, who is the team doctor for ASU, Phoenix Mercury, and has performed various other surgeries for famous athletes in the Valley. He is very attentive and knowledgeable. His PA, Kevin Cantwell, always has a smile and is a good understudy to Dr. Chhabra. Dr. Chhabra performed a left shoulder subacromonial decompression to relief pain from the back of my shoulder. I am currently rehabbing from the surgery, and I feel so much better with the pain gone away. I have not visited other doctors at the clinic, but I highly recommend Dr. Chabbra! read more

She hung up on me when I asked for an email confirmation even after i remained cordial and thanked her. We all need a little help in this world and it's easier if you are kind to your patients. While I was able to schedule my son easily enough, I found the Doctor to be extremely brusque and I left with the feeling that he was highly disapproving of the choice in sports that my son participated in (American Kenpo), and things were left requiring an MRI, and that they needed to get preauthorization. After this, I found their follow up is absolutely terrible. We were told that this would take 3-5 business days to obtain. When I contacted my insurance a couple of days later to see where things were at (trust but verify), I was told that they HAVE NOTHING ON RECORD to indicate that there was any pre auth request. I further asked my insurance about the preauth for MRIs, and they told me directly "As long as the agency providing the MRI was in network they did not require this." I further revalidated that TOCA was in network (they were). When I attempted to contact TOCA to follow up on both why things were not in the system yet, and the need for the preauthorization, I kept getting the run around--the person I needed to talk to was busy, and I ended up on hold, or was told they would call me back (which of course never happened). Overall this experience has left me angry, frustrated, and feeling like this was a giant waste of time, as I'm now having to follow up with a different orthopedic group. read more

Over a year ago I was injured on the job and torn tendons in my elbow, and my shoulder. I was highly recommend to Dr Cummings in this group. He did not order any diagnostic imaging for the first 3 months. I was only prescribed physical therapy. When that failed he ordered MRI imaging for my elbow only. Over 6 months later I got surgery on my elbow only. After several months of PT my shoulder was still a problem, so finally he ordered an MRI on my shoulder. At that point it came back showing only minor problems, so again I got more PT. When that failed to produce real results he suggested injections in my shoulder. I got the injections done, and they were already beginning to fail less than 2 week's later when I saw him again. His recommendation was 4 more injections, which I know are only a temporary fix at best. Since my last visit my pain has gotten worse than it was before they started work, and I requested more pain medication. I've called 4 times waiting on hold to talk to someone in the office for 15 to 20 minutes each time, and each time they've told me they will take care of the problem, and each time I've not received a call back from the office. I have not been able to sleep more than 2 hours for over 2 weeks now, an they continue to ignore my problems. If you have a workman's comp issue, then do NOT use these people. They do not listen to their patient's, and they only care about their profits. Dr. Cummings got very mad at me when I told him I wanted ultrasound to get the 4 added injections in my shoulder. He doesn't know how to use the ultrasound, so he had to refer that to another doctor, which he had already done for the first injection that I got which failed after 2 weeks. Not only do these people not listen to their patients, but they delay your recovery mso they can make more money. Don't even think about using them for any work related injury. I didn't want to be disabled for the rest of my life, but due to the lack of their care I now will be. read more

Having just moved to Scottsdale as a year round resident, I have to rely on references from trusted sources. While I do like Dr Duhon, whom I just had arthroscopic knee surgery, I really don't like the organization of TOCA. Yes, they have many services to remind you of appts and several computer purchased forms to fill out, but for a patient to contact a specific office or God forbid, the actual Dr - GOOD LUCK. Every section of their website for the patient is, and has been, "Under Construction". I have dealt with other large Ortho Clinics before in other cities, but TOCA has to be the most Patient Unfriendly group I have ever had to deal with. Made announcement doctor is running 30 minutes late but 45 mins later after entire floor of 30 people are seen I go up there to voice and she says your appointment is not till 11:30. I said no it's not she said 11 as I'm 5 mins away from work and I wouldn't show up 1 hour before for appt. it's now 12:05 and still waiting as I type this. TOCA PHYSICAL THERAPY on Mill St. is a JOKE...but it isn't funny! Heather is more worried about the athletes they sponsor than their patients that are in pain and need of rehab. I actually walked out on my last session under her care and NO ONE NOTICED!!! That was after they wouldn't listen to my valid concerns and caused more damage than I started with. So much for all those visits... just save your time and money! Go somewhere else where they really care and you will get more personalized treatment. Unless you are an athlete...and not looking for rehab... then you can go there... KUDOS to Gavin and Logan... they are KIND souls who work very hard to make up for everything else TOCA lacks. What a racket. This is everything that is wrong with economies of scale. -You will spend excessive amounts of time on hold. -You may never actually speak to a doctor. Good luck even getting to a PA. -Everyone you do get a hold of on the phone will pass the buck and transfer you to another department. -No one takes any personal responsibility. It is always someone else's job or it's just the way the system works, etc. -After "urgently" ordering me to rush in for an MRI and collecting their $$, it was damn near impossible to get service from TOCA. Working with TOCA has led to nothing but half-baked information and a HUGE hassle. Too big for their own good. You will feel like a commodity and not a patient. read more

Reception was unfriendly. Dr. Feng spent three minutes with me and advised I should take anti inflammatories, wear a brace and let time heal it. He did not listen to me, take my pain seriously or try to diagnose what the problem is. I would not recommend him nor will I be returning to TOCA. read more

I injured my knee on a Wednesday and got in to see the PA-C of an orthopedic surgeon at TOCA the next day. I don't know why everyone is having such a tough time scheduling appointments with TOCA. I called them right after my injury at around 3 in the afternoon and got right in. I think if you avoid "peak" times when calling the office, you have the best chance of getting an appointment with the smallest amount of frustration. Everyone knows that traffic is greatest around 8AM and 5PM because everyone hits the road at the same time. Phone traffic is no different. Also, I tend to feel a sense of security when I walk into a busy doctor's office as opposed to one that is completely empty. The ratio of doctors to patients in AZ is fairly high to begin with. If they aren't busy, I start to wonder why and my imagination will usually lead me to conclusions that aren't good for my health. Justin, Dr. Cumming's Physician Assistant, did a great job with his initial assessment and getting me scheduled for an MRI. Remember folks, with the rising cost of medical schools, more candidates are choosing to go the route of PA or NP and it's not uncommon to be assessed by these highly skilled individuals. I had a vein issue that they did not take lightly, rushed me in for an ultrasound, and even called me the day after my visits to make sure I was doing OK. Dr. Cumming's has great bedside manner and both he and Justin took the time to educate me on the overall process and what was going on with my knee. Both of them were on hand for my surgery at Piper Surgery Center in Scottsdale, AZ. They furthered this excellent experience by taking the time to help my wife understand the meds I was taking and the care that I would need post-op. Lastly, the staff and everyone involved with my experience continue to be nothing more than helpful on my road to recovery. read more

Avoid it if at all possible. Dr. Cummings gave me the most poorly thought out, ridiculous diagnosis in about 5 minutes which ended up being very easy to prove incorrect later on. The PT was actually decent and somewhat helpful but I later realized you only see them once for the most part, then they dish you off to the assistants, who don't really know much of anything about your specific issue and were not even there at the consultation. It's always the same story w/ these types of shops, they treat you like a commodity. Wish I had never called them. read more

Just came back from the appointment and I am not impressed. I had an appointment which I came on time for (had the paperwork filled out beforehand) and waited over an hour after in the exam room before the doctor came in. The doctor came in and gave a minimal exam on my shoulder, didn't ask about past PT or seemed to have looked at my previous MRI. They also conducted xrays which is odd because they are not nearly as detailed as an MRI which I had done recently. It makes me wonder if they are giving patients xrays to patients as a revenue stream. read more

Are you kidding me with this office staff? The Tempe office wait is NEVER less than 45 minutes. Why have an appointment if it's an hour or more that you sit in the waiting room. Today, I left after waiting one hour and 15 minutes. RIDICULOUS! Can I bill them for wasting my time? Dr Carter performed knee surgery. He's a great doctor, but it's not worth putting up with the office staff to see him. Also, good luck having them fill out leave paperwork for your job in a complete, correct, and timely manner. Because of their errors, my paycheck was held up for a month! AND you get to pay the office $25 each time they fill out paperwork. I've been to 3 other orthopedic surgeons over the years in the valley and none with as poorly managed office as this. TOCA itself is not a bad place at all, it's the physicians who are terrible. I was a patient there for my lower back, neck and shoulder-blade pain. (The pain was all over, really) I saw Dr. Vivek Mehta and Dr. Christopher Huston. Both were totally incompetent and uncaring. After several X-RAYS, failed diagnostic test injections, and medications neither doctor could offer a reasonable explanation or diagnosis. I was told sometimes spinal vertebra just get inflamed and pain results. That diagnoses was absolute crap. I'm only 18 years old. Pain doesn't just come from no where and have no explanation. There is always a cause no matter if you're 18 or 80! Pain is not normal, it's a warning sign that must be addressed. After, I went to a Chiropractor who did a full spinal X-RAY and discovered I had a pretty bad case of scoliosis cause by a pelvic tilt. This was responsible for all of my pain! My question is how in the world do two orthopedic physicians not detect scoliosis after taking X-RAYS of their own? These physicians at TOCA are terrible. I hope you take my story as advice and do not see them. The time i wasted with them only caused my scoliosis, pain and damage to my spine to get worse. read more

Don't go to TOCA for Dr Zoltan. He is uninformed and not knowledgeable regarding sports injuries. We saw Dr Zoltan on a Monday after a track injury that occurred on Saturday night. He sent us directly to the emergency room. He wasn't clear why, only that he could not treat whatever he thought it was. After MRI, Ultrasound, test for Compartment syndrome,blood work and 35 hours we were released the following day with the tests that showed what our son didn't have and to follow up with Zoltan. We needed to get a plan of what was wrong (no answer to that yet) and how to proceed, so we went to Zoltan for the follow up. He threw his hands in the air and said "what do you want me to do?" "I can go read the MRI, but it's not going to tell me anything". I left in tears. What a jerk. read more

My wife scheduled an appointment for me, they set me up with a doctor and when I rushed to the appointment to be on time I was told that doctor couldn't see me and no one else was there. I left work and drove 30minutes down the freeway for nothing. Now I get to work an extra hour and find a new clinic. This is completely unreal. I saw Dr. Cummings for pain in my elbow. He diagnosed me with "tennis" elbow. He has a wonderful bedside manner, and explained things in layman's terms to me. I was ordered to go to physical therapy 3 x a week for 6 weeks. Every single hand therapist I worked with there were awesome (Stephen, Debbie, Loni). They were all knowledgeable and friendly. Great experience here. Have you ever been to the doctor and wonder if he cared or even knew what he was talking about? Well, both of those issues are not apparent here. Dr. Carter and his little apprentice took great care of me. They were very busy, but nonetheless they made me feel like my little knee injury was important and needed their expertise. I was very impressed that they just took the X-Rays right there on site and reviewed them...right there on site. Very impressive and effective. By the way, Dr. Carter is the primary physician of the PHX Suns....so that should tell ya something. Any joint pain, go see these guys. Not one complaint here! When I initially met with the Doctor he said everything was covered by Insurance. Surgery went ok. I have a big recess in my finger where the surgery was but whatever. After the surgery, I get a bill for $1,600. I tried to call and ask why but all i got was an answering service who took down some info. I then get an email with the explanation of "this is your responsibility to pay". I send several follow up emails asking for an explanation because I was told it was covered. And, crickets. No response at all. All I got was Bill's threatening to send me to collections. How can medical companies bill you whatever they want without permission? I was never told it was going to cost anything. I am more than happy to pay for services that I agreed to but this just seems wrong. read more

Please don't give your money to this place. First, you can only get your MRI from Simon Medical Imaging or them. Kickbacks anyone? Second, they quoted me a price for the MRI and then charged me 2 1/2 times more. They said the quote was just an estimate. Um... 2 1/2 times more is not an estimate. Then they said it was because they don't know what my deductible is on my insurance. Like everyone else, I have a high deductible HSA. So really they couldn't tell me why and wouldn't fix anything. I called three times and was just told management would look at it but I heard nothing else. I emailed twice and still no response. I will say the MRI technician was wonderful and supportive. The doctor reminded me of some 1970's hotshot who drove sports cars. It was so obvious he was only into getting money and could care less about his patients. I decided to do my own PT although they were good, it wasn't worth shelling out $75 for a 1/2 hour of riding a bicycle and stretching. I can do that on my own. So go once to PT and then forget it. Not worth the price I paid, felt like I was only a dollar sign and their ethics are horrible. Go elsewhere, people! Unethical if not illegal practices going on here. read more

Physicians might be good but the billing is very dishonest. Overcharge the patient, then give you the run around when you ask questions and use all tricks to avoid sending you the money back. They sent us a bill for more than $2,000 AFTER the insurance told them not to do it and then it took 9 (nine) months for us to be reimbursed! If you still want to go there: Wait for the insurance paper and ONLY pay what the insurance tell you is your responsability! We will not return. read more

Chalk this one up to one of those - I Should have read reviews BEFORE making my appointment lessons. Honestly- I think of Yelp when we want food or fun- it really had not occurred to me that medical PROFESSIONALS would have scores of negative reviews on here. It sure does now after my experience at TOCA. Cons: I could not get in with the Doc my friends experienced so settled for Dr Zoltan. Had to go to Tempe where their office parking situation is a complete nightmare. An appointment is just a suggested time for when you will be seen- but if you are late they will cancel and bill you. (one thing I loathe about medical establishments)- in my case my appointment was later than it was supposed to be because an older gentleman came in without an appointment and they "squeezed him in before me being taken back *RED FLAG! Office staff: When calling to make my appointment they were ok- when I checked in one lady was super nice and when we left the appointment they were on top of wanting to "help" but it was far too late at that point. Doctor Zoltan: rude, rushed, condescending and disengaged. We brought MRI images with us to my appointment (I had injured my knee a week prior while doing a fun run obstacle course event--Urgent care X-rays were clean but MRI done by Simon Med was showing that I had a completely torn ACL and 2nd degree MCL tear this is why I was seeking out an orthopedic doctor) Doctor spent about 3 minutes in the exam room with us, manipulated my knee for a few seconds and then left to read the MRI and report. When he came back he said he did not think my MCL was torn because I was not showing pain the way he felt I should be showing it a week out from the injury. He then said my ACL is torn but not completely and is likely a tear I had long before this injury and was just unaware of it. (???really?? that is interesting) Doc wants to do "aggressive therapy" and check me in a few months but no surgery at this time- I had to pretty much beg him to stop from walking out the door so I could ask 2 quick questions both he replied with "yup and sure" as responses as he was walking away- he then did a little point of his finger and wink at my husband and was gone. Total direct time with Doctor for this orthopedic consultation was less than five minutes. PT came in and fitted me for a brace (which I had to request-that was one of my 2 questions) so at least I did get SOMETHING out of this appointment. Nurse informed us Doc wanted to see me again in 4 weeks and I made it abundantly clear that we would not be returning. Both the nurse and PT were totally not phased by my remarks or by my husband stating that we felt very poorly cared for at this visit and for the most part they just shrugged us off with forced sympathetic smiles and left the room. Total time from when the doctor walked in to the exam room to when we were leaving the building was 23 minutes which included him reviewing my MRI images, and me getting fitted for a brace. I will be seeking out another opinion (technically a 4th opinion at this point since both the MRI imaging Xray Tech and Urgent Care doctor read my images differently than Dr Zoltan- who didn't even take the time to explain what he did see or did not see in the MRI when he looked at it. After reading the other reviews on here about the lack of thorough patient care and attentiveness- everything I experienced seems to be pretty typical at this office. I strongly urge others to seek care elsewhere. read more

If I can save 1 person sending this review from the pain and suffering I have been in as a result of surgery by Dr. Kostas J. Economopoulos it will be worth it. Whatever you do make sure to never have him as a doctor. I am 10 months post a torn labrum hip surgery and bone shaving (I went in for a torn labrum but he insisted I have this bone shaved at the same time as there was a "spot" from puberty on the bone he wanted to remove)and all these months later I am worse than I ever was one day before the surgery. Once things were going NOTHING like predicted pre-surgery suddenly he knew nothing and didn't know why and once I insisted on further tests against his suggestion it was discovered I had Bone Edema and his response was "I don't know anything you can do to help that".......and then he will just shrug his shoulders and stare. I have been thru so many pain meds, stomach issues now due to so much ibuprofen, etc. I can't work out like I did before which was my hobby, my life line. It's been a MESS. I am positive it will work out but PLEASE avoid this scam of a DR. You're just a number. He wants to rush surgery, get his payment and move onto the next number. To be fair I cannot speak on any other DR in this establishment. I can confirm the office waits are up to TWO hours and it's a cattle call. I hope this saves someone from a mess. Clinton M read more

Had an appointment yesterday for the first time as a new patient. After an hour wait I saw the doctor. After the doctor realized I didn't need surgery on my arm afterall, he was a complete ASS! He recommended that I come back in 1 month for a followup to check the healing process of my broken arm. The staff could not have been more RUDE and UNHELPFUL in making a follow up! I actually work for a large group of physicians myself in a large practice and I have never heard any staff treat patients like this! If we did we would be out of a job! Worst customer service ever! I will never go to this place again. I had issues with my FMLA paperwork being filled out incorrectly. I received a call back from MARIA SANDOVAL who works with Dr Houston who was VERY rude and condescending towards me. She was very argumentative and negative the entire conversation. I came in to see Dr. Economopoulos at the request of my primary doctor who set up the appointment with the belief that my injury was bad enough that I needed to be seen right away and said her office would send in my records, which included my x-ray. I left work at 2:00pm and by 5:15pm, I walked out of the doctor's office with nothing accomplished but a quick interaction with the doctor who walks into the patient room as if I wasted his time, not the other way around. When I first was checking in, I observed one of the office staffers yelling at a patient who merely was just notifying her that she had to leave to return to work. The patient had to tell the staffer that she wasn't mad and to calm down. It was the strangest thing I have ever seen. The lady that helped me was friendly, but when I got there she appeared to be creating my file on the spot. I assumed everything was okay when she took my co-pay and had to me sit down. I waited for an hour before I finally went up and asked if they skipped me. I was told that I'm next in line. I wait longer and then I'm taken into a patient room where I again wait. Finally, the doctor comes in and with no apology tells me, "how do I expect to be treated without an x-ray." It appeared that his office never received my records, did not tell me they did not receive my records, and he was trying to get me to do another x-ray. No apology, no empathy, and the only solution his office wanted to suggest was to have me put my body under additional radiation and expense for his office being so unorganized. There was a total lack of good customer service and almost an entitlement and sadly blaming the patient. I kept thinking if they had just said something, I could have drove and grabbed records myself. Also, why didn't he come in stating it would be a few minutes while they reach out to my primary doctor? A business like this, should not be rewarded. The doctor should have tried to fix the problem or at least acknowledged there was a problem. Hopefully, this review helps you find the best office for you. read more

Bad doctors, bad PT staff. The doctors are a mob that want to make money. Dr. Zoltan was curt and weird. Dr. Armendariz was a jerk, PERIOD. The PT staff does not do ASTEM. Astem is a physical approach to fixing an ankle. Instead, all I did was strengthen to no avail. Bobby from Texas was the only hustler of that group in Tempe, the rest were either not knowledgeable, casual and not willing to go the extra mile. read more

Orthopedic services were average ,very forgettable! The billing is extremely disorganized and very poorly managed! I received a bill in September for services rendered 10 months earlier! My insurance company verified that the claim had been processed 5 months earlier but apparently the billing department operates in another time zone entirely! I would never recommend this organization and I hope (fingers crossed) I don't receive any more of their poorly managed bills! read more
