The theatre itself is good, but the workers are pretty rude. Specifically the lobby attendants look at me and talk like they want me to die, and they tend to be irritable. This is over multiple experiences. Every time i've come to this theatre, the lobby attendants are unwelcoming and disrespectful. I get that customer service sucks, and the employees might've had a bad day, but it's no excuse to be discourteous towards people who are just trying to watch a film. read more

I must say for a movie theatre restaurant, located inside Waukee's Palm Theatre, this place rocks the food. We've eaten here a few times now and it's always been good. The Godfather Italian sandwich with ghost pepper cheese is Both the Chicken House and the Chicken Caesar salads were great. It's a plentiful salad for a meal, excellent presentation and great toppings. The pork tenderloin + all the fixin's, was good. Not the best tenderloin in the metro, clearly premade and frozen patty, but still good. The apocalypse burger (pretzel bun, double patty, pickles, onions, ghost pepper cheese, yumyum sauce) were both very tasty. We each had a bite of one another's entrees and agreed that all the food was very good. Not pictured was the pineapple bbq sliders, which got rave reviews (I didn't taste this entree). He said it was one of the best, most lean bbq sammiches he'd ever had, and this man loves his bbq sandwiches. The pineapple flavor added the right touch, and being all lean mean was a bonus for him. I'll have to try this next time, it's an appetizer option but he got it as a meal. Timely from ordering to delivery, drinks were always refilled, service friendly and attentive. It's almost offensive how much better the Palms continues to be relative to every other theater I've been to. This goes double (or triple) for IMAX screenings, but even a standard auditorium here outdoes most others. I'm still a little spicy about having moved away because of that. The food is good and the service is generally high quality. The theater is also new and clean. Wow! Just wow! Even the size of the exterior of the theater is massive. Rightfully so because those IMAX theaters are amazing! Love this addition to the west side of Des Moines. Came here in a Wednesday morning for the summer movie matinees for kids! Best $8 I've spent this summer! $2.00/kid paid our way in to an IMAX feature. Upon entering the theater it was clean and stunning. Check-out-counter was easy to locate. Their menu for ticket purchasing was easy to read. They also have a theater to dine and watch- just like FLIX Brewhouse! Waterfall and eating area to the right. Outdoor dining options and with a TV outside! Only way to get in to arcade and drink/snack area is you have to show your paid movie ticket. Can't just walk in! Good security. Operating Room Arcade found around the corner of the drink bar. IMAX Theaters are on the left of the entry way. Many regular theaters in the opposite direction. We did not purchase any food or drink. But they had a very nice selection! IMAX theater was huge and very roomy. Comfortable reclining loveseats with movable tables. PROTIP: purchase seats in middle to further rows back for IMAX. Front rows seem to be too close and causes too much head movement to look at full screen. Overall a very wonderful experience! Very clean floors and place. Everyone is really nice and walks you through the entire process. It was my first time but I still bought my tickets online. All I had to do was scan my ticket and go in. The snacks are at a great price for what you get and get free refills for the large popcorn and drink. The IMAX theater was super loud making such a cool experience. Super fancy and clean. For the seating we had they kept the lights dimmed because they serve food. I did not realize that so if you want an experience where it's fully dark and all you see is the screen then I would recommend asking them which shows do that. The Palms makes movie-going an event again, we had a great time during our visit here. It's not inexpensive, but the service is top notch and so is the atnosphere. We arrived an hour before our showing which was one that had an in-theater dining service. Instead of going right to our seats we had a drink and an appetizer in the lounge. Brady gave us the best service and we enjoyed an adult beverage and an appetizer while we watched some sports and hung out. We were totally relaxed and in a great move by the time our show was seated. The best part was that we could transfer our tab (and bring our drinks ) to our seats. The actual movie-going experience was phenomenal. The seats recline, are heated, and they were really comfy. I didnt see a bad seat in the house. The food we ordered for the movie came out super fast and was delicious. The cauliflower crust for the gluten free pizza was actually awesome. Check out was a breeze and the movie was really entertaining. I thought the sound system was great and would definitely recommend seeing any movie here. We will definitely be back! read more

The best movie theatre I have ever been to! Great environment, great food, and very comfortable reclining chairs to relax in. Since there is a restaurant connected to the theatre, there is an option to order food from the reclining chair before the movie starts. Decently priced food as well! I signed up for the rewards for The Palms Theatre so next time I go, I will get a free medium popcorn! The Palms, was the name of the 1 bar in my Grandma's home town of Ashton, Iowa.. Ashton is a town with 230 people and one bar that I guess probably feels like you are sitting on a beach in North West Iowa after a few cocktails.. Sand between the toes.. A make believe land. A mirage? A dream? Those fake make believe lands are exactly what movie theaters are.. The portal to a make believe land! And the Palms is a fantastic one! They have video games, a place to watch the big game (including NFL ticket) they have an IMAX and they have DINE and RECLINE theaters where you can order full meals and sit in couch like seats that recline! I caught the JOKER here the other night.. Yes it's Taxi Driver with a little more gore.. But heck I'm glad I went on a Tuesday cause you get a free popcorn if you order a drink.. SO hey yes I will have a 5 dollar pint of Busch Light! Also ordered a veggie burger, and fries.. The actual burger was great.. And fries too. But it did come with a Gluten Free bun in a plastic bag which was not as great as it could be! But heck if the only thing wrong with my experience was a gluten free bun, this place is a fantastic place to see a flick, watch a game, or play some! Very fun concept! Similar to Flix as it has food but reclines like the Altoona Theater. The combo of both worlds. Not all the movies are Dine and Recline but you can still get food you just have to get it yourself. The drinks are much better than the other theaters. I noticed the other reviews all mentioned how nice the staff is. It is one of the things I noticed as well! Everyone is very helpful and there to work. It's good to see that. The other theater by my house is usually short staffed and the employees seem to avoid working if they can! Even the management was there and helpful. They took the time to get our food when no one was there and another one later asked us how everything was. The theater itself is big! We went to the digital theater. I like the reclining chairs with the tables. The tables are one of the features the other theaters do not have. We came early to order food so there was no line. You get a little pager thing to let you know when your food is ready. The wait isn't too bad but we had a lot of time before our movie. The food from Ricks Cafe is good! It's a few dollars more than the food at concessions. Depending on your appetite, I'd say it's worth ordering from Ricks Cafe instead of concessions. read more

An update: We went to see the new Godzilla movie last week ... on the Imax ... wow ... I mean really ... wow ... The volume issues we had the first time were not a problem this time. The Imax screen is spectacular. This theater went from a "never again" to a "when are we going again" thanks to a better second experience, and a great staff experience on our first trip. read more

Best theater in the greater Des Moines area!! I love the heated & cooled seats, and the seats that recline with the headrests that adjust as well mean that even if the theater is cold I can stay warm. The sound quality and huge screens make for. Completely wild theater experience! The food is delicious and they have a great selection of drinks on tap, including blonde fatale (peace tree). The normal concessions (candy/snacks) selection is disappointing but the food at the restaurant means it's not the only option. My biggest issue is the staff. For the most part they are friendly and helpful. But there have been a few instances where they've been rude and unhelpful. The biggest instance was when I paid cash for snacks and the girl handling the register closed the register and told me to have a great day, but didn't give me my change ($15). When I pointed it out, she rolled her eyes, reopened the register, and said she knew, she wasn't new to handling customers, and I needed to be patient. Another instance involved 6 staff members standing behind the concessions counter complaining about customers loudly and with multiple customers within earshot. Overall, I really enjoy this theater. But the staff needs to be a bit more considerate and mindful that they are at work in a public facing job. read more

Worth the drive! As a lifelong fan of going to the movies, this is a wonderful theatre. But what else would you expect when you hear it's a Fridley theatre? From the 4k screens to one of the biggest IMAX screens in the country to the palms sign out front, this place is solid and stylish. Not too bad on the pocketbook, either. Eco-friendly with its solar power and electric car charging ports. All seats are heated and recline. Some of the theatres have dine-in service. If you're going out to the movies, make it a worthwhile experience and go to the Palms. read more

Absolutely loved the palms theater! The chairs are all the recliner style however the addition of the table tops at the chairs is an awesome idea! They even had cupholders in the restroom so you don't have to deal with the awkwardness of putting your cup somewhere. Theaters eight through 15 are the dining in theaters much like the old Billy Joe's picture show. Full menu available with Iles specific for the week so so they don't block your movie. There was a person stationed at the door of your specific theater to comply with corona. Extremely helpful! read more

What a relaxing and all encompassing experience to see a movie here! First, the staff was all nice. It's easy to pick up your tickets with their kiosks. They have a nice selection of movie food and drinks. I'm excited to see what's next once the upcoming restaurant food options come! They also serve Pepsi products, which is perfect. Along side those there are some terrific non-Pepsi taste options. The root beer on that side was really nice. Add in the slushies and frozen lemonade options, it's pretty much bliss. We saw a movie on the IMAX screen, though there are lots of other options. The first thing I noticed when walking in was the smell. It still smells quite nice, whereas many theaters smell moldy over time. Rather than the old dusty curtain walls they have a great acoustic tile setup. I enjoyed the fantastic, relaxing heated seats. The sound is great as is the projection. I visited the restroom which was clean and well setup. They make it easy for you to get drink refills with stations in the back hall as well as along the side of the lobby. So bring along your drink cup if you have to make a restroom run during a movie. Tuesdays, like with many theaters, are discount days. Tickets are a bit less and you get a free 46 oz popcorn with a drink purchase. I've already made a list of upcoming films that I absolutely must see at this IMAX theater! This could easily become a new addiction! read more

I took the whole family out for a kids movie. We arrived a tad early, but I'm thrilled we did. We ordered some food and drinks (for the adults). I said to my daughter that we better eat them quick. The clerk kindly corrected me and told me we can bring it in. He asked for my seat number. Right as the movie started someone stopped in and cleared our garbage. I was blown away by this simple gesture. The movie experience itself was fantastic as well. The wide walkways lets you slip out with the kids when they inevitably need the restroom at pivotal moments in the movie. I didn't seem to interrupt anyone. The seats are heated and very wide. The trays are large. I would prefer they can fold out of the way, but that is nit-picking. I will be coming back often. I hope they stay on top of cleaning and maintain this place because it is very nice. We are lucky to have it. read more

If you are looking to see a movie; you really can't beat the palms. Each theater utilizes the reserved seat function which you can book online ahead of time or in theater. They have several digital check ins staffed with someone incase you need assistance. They also have a ticket booth with register if you prefer that method. Concessions are expensive (nothing new here). Both large popcorn and drink come with free refills. My only complaint about this theater is the "restaurant" inside. We would have liked to eat prior to our movie but when we sat down we waited for 5 minutes or so and were never greeted or brought a menu. There is a full bar with drink specials which is nice but, again, pricey. My husband ended up getting a hot dog and fries from the concession stand which took 15 minutes to receive. Not sure what is happening with the food but, it's definitely subpar and slow. If they could fix this, this place would be amazing. The theaters are very clean and so far, well taken care of. If you would like to upgrade there are options for 3D movies, IMAX, as well as movie with dinner. Bottom line: great place for movies!
