Plan on walking around this location since the other locations the mounds have disappeared from centuries of traffic and plowing. The mounds have been restored here and give you a feel of what they were like. The rangers are great and full of knowledge.

Came to Mound City all the time as a kid, but it's probably been 25 years since my last visit…read more Hasn't changed a lot. Very nicely kept grounds, respectful care of the earthworks. Small visitor's center that explains the culture, architecture and archaeology of the earthworks- Mound City is here, but there are several other properties in the area that are included in the National Historical Park. Baby K loved the Junior Ranger brochure, and learned quite a bit from it, the rangers, the movie, and my decrepit memory. We had family to see and it was sprinkling, otherwise we would have stayed longer than an hour. Figure on several hours if you really want to explore. We just missed the big culture gathering on October 14th. Oh, well. Still a fun and educational visit. We'll be back.

The festival is a yearly tradition for the town. The weather was wonderful. We saw lots of booths…read moreselling items. We enjoyed looking at all the Longaberger baskets. The basket headquarters is in Dresden. There were programs and activities for each day of the festival. We found free street parking. It was fun talking to the vendors.

We saw the masses of people slowly increase when we realized we were driving through the heart of a festival! Actual Impression (*****): The idea of letting traffic pass through made sense... and is really cool! We would have stopped if parking sections were clearer! We saw a spray painted $4.00 parking sign and didn't trust it. The food looked great - I wish I could have had bourbon chicken delivered to my car window! The animal artist had a really cool alligator (or crocodile?) Lasting Impression (****): I would return if I happen to be that far away from home. Looked fun!
