    Chefs table.

Arguably one of the if not the best dining experiences in Seattle. The service, the food, the atmosphere, the wine, and everything in between is (in my eyes) carefully crafted well balanced perfection. I reserve 5 stars for places you plan your day around. I would give The Peasant 6 stars if I could. As this is a place your plan your vacation plans around.

Came here for an anniversary dinner with my partner. Was surprised when we walked in and found that most of the patrons would be sat around a shared table - I thought this was an interesting concept but unfortunately with Seattle freeze, people don't really like to talk to each other so everyone mostly just had sidebar conversations with their party. Overall the food was pretty good. I love tasting menus and I know that there's always some dishes that may not be quite to my taste and others that I'll love, which was definitely the case here. Surprisingly I wasn't the biggest fan of the tenderloin, but I still frequently think about the custard. Most of the alcohol pairings were decent but I believe one of the wines was actually corked - probably should've said something but I didn't notice until the wine was mostly finished and just felt that it wasn't the biggest deal.

Creative small restaurant operated by a daytime butcher shop, for adventurous meat loving eaters. They offer 14-16 seats per night on a set menu of the chef's choosing. On the day I visited the menu comprised of pork cheek, pumpkin, pate, geese, and a chocolate cake. The pork cheek was great and chocolate cake was my favorite. Pate was too salty and dense for me. There's practically no carb on the menu but I still came home stuffed with the protein/fat heavy meal. Service was good. They charge an automatic 20% service charge on top of the $150/person fee, so it ends up around $200/person with tax and fees.

I bought sausage and steak at Beast and Cleaver before but this was my first time dining at The Peasant. You have to make a reservation as very limited seating inside the butcher shop. The waitress and sommelier were wonderful. They were very attentive to our needs. We got London Royal, Royale Steak with Foie Gras, Whole Roasted Cabbage, and A5 Smash Burger. The burger was a bit salty for me and the sautéed onions were messy as it keeps falling out but overall good flavor. The steaks were amazing! We got London Royal rare as recommended and super soft to the bite. The Royale Steak was wonderful with more rich flavor. I absolutely love the roasted cabbage, the sauce was delicious and great compliment to the meat dishes. Would love to come back whenever I craved for steak!

Amazing tasting menu. Tons of creativity, great casual atmosphere, get to talk to the chef, he gave me an extra portion of pork tongue lol. Amazing place. Only minor detraction was that my chair sitting at the bar was kind of uncomfortable. Haha. Still amazing.

Food and service are excellent but 4 of 16 seats in restaurant are extremely uncomfortable - high seats at an extremely thin counter edge that really is just made to fit a drink. It's a shame because everything else was stellar but when you spend $500 for 2 you want far more comfortable.

We got a couple of drinks (wine for $10 a glass, negroni for $10), the rigatoni ($15), garlic bread ($6), and arugula salad ($11). The rigatoni was my favorite - well sauced and perfectly al dente. The garlic bread was my least favorite - I'd skip it and use your carbs elsewhere. Service was solid - we sat at the bar and felt well taken care of. It does seem like it's best for small groups and not large parties though, so keep that in mind. Also try to make a reservation as they said they were booked up. And last but certainly not least, inside the restaurant was absolutely beautiful. A very intimate affair and it was nice that the you could see them cooking and preparing your food. The chef explained everything about the meal before you started. Definitely will be going as much as possible while we still reside in the state.

We FINALLY made it over after over 10 years. My husband and I have traveled all over the world and dined at some of the best restaurants (from 3 star Michelin to delicious food carts--we don't care if there are accolades behind the food--we just know what well prepared, good food tastes like). We may be picky and more particular than most guests dining here. Whidbey has never been known for amazing food. It's a hard place to have a restaurant as it tends to rely heavily on tourism during the summer months, and it's hard to get locals to spend $$$ on the regular. We've seen many restaurants come and go. While I am thrilled this place is still surviving and thriving, it didn't quite live up to all the high praise I've seen. Don't get me wrong, the food is tasty, but I wouldn't say it was something that would leave a memory. Most of the dishes seemed like there needed some work to be done, or some quality control. The salad we received was heavily dominated by the cheese, and you couldn't taste any of the fresh vegetables. My "surprise" course had Guanciale which both my husband and I looked at each other at the same time and said "this tastes like it was rendered in old bacon fat." My husband also received 6 pieces of gnocchi, while I only had 2. The main course was cooked technically well, but it was off balance in the elements they provided. Again, not a big deal--but some tinkering and adjusting of amount of the components on the dish would have benefited them. My husbands cheese dish came without one of the components--but it was minor and not a big deal. It was just another example of how extra time may be needed with the dishes. The gentleman sitting next to me had told the other guests that "this was the best meal he has ever had," and thats when my husband and I realized that perhaps we went into this with too high of expectations compared to those who may dine here. By no meals was it a bad meal, it just was not at the level that some of the other reviewers here have felt. Again, that may just because we have eaten out at so many wonderful places around the world, that perhaps we are a bit jaded. We came for the Thursday local dinner, and when we left, we were a bit relieved we weren't doing the longer and more expensive weekend menu, given our experience, as we don't think we would have left feeling like we got our money's worth. If you're traveling through, and come on a Thursday--I think it's a great option. Would I spend $165-$180 a person on their main menu--that would be a no from me. It's a fun experience dining at a communal table--but it made having one on one conversation with my husband a bit tricky and we felt the need to have to engage with others when we were really wanting to turn off for the day (my husband and I are both Clinical Psychologists and spend the days listing to others The staff were all amazing and very friendly and accommodating. 5 stars for them! I really wanted to be wowed and to have a place my husband and I could escape to while visiting family as its just down the road from them--but unfortunately I don't know if we would return.
