Spanakopita
Marie P.

I went here for a quick lunch. I generally love Greek diners, but this place was just okay. I was impressed by their long and varied menu, and was excited to see so many Greek classics on the menu. I opted for the Spanikopita, which is a spinach pie with filo dough. It came with a hearty portion of tzatziki sauce. Unfortunately, the spinach was flavorless. It almost tasted as if it had been wet when cooked. I did like the crispness of the filo. The tzaziki was inedible to me because the garlic was so strong. I did try some else's fries and enjoyed those. I really wanted to love this place because I love Greek food. I was pleasantly surprised when I got 10% off for checking in while there. I'm going to try ordering something else next time I go here.

Awesome service, and great food! Our coffee cups were always full and the bacon was cooked to perfection. I love the classic diner feel of the place. We would definitely come back! Only took one star off because the bathroom wasn't the cleanest and the sinks could be easier to use.

I've reviewed the PepperMill Cafe before but will do it again to ensure everyone knows what a gem this place is. We order breakfast from here twice a week at least. It is SO flavorful and good. The potatoes are decadent and matches perfectly with scrambled egg. I look forward to visiting again.

PepperMill Cafe is one of many jack-of-all trades family restaurants in the south High Point/Archdale area, and our experience was just fine. Nothing remarkable that would make us really want to come out of our way to visit again, but if we were in the area, we'd give it another shot. We came in on a Sunday for lunch around 1pm, and maybe that is why our food wasn't great, we didn't realize they close up at 2pm. Everything looked a lot better in the pics inside the menu than it did on our plates. Flavor was OK, but the portions were pretty sparse. See my pics for examples... but my steak and cheese sandwich was mostly bread, as was my wife's chicken parm sandwich (with a stingy amount of fries to boot). It wasn't particularly expensive, and it's not like I was expecting anything amazing, but it just seems like it was a down day around here. We'll give it a shot another time.

We just received two orders of Alfredo with chicken and broccoli. They forgot the chicken! Not to mention the sauce is very bland. Not sure who is working in the kitchen but they clearly didn't pass the cooking class. There's no excuse for not reading your directions.

Food was delicious, our waitress was very helpful. They have a lot to choose from. We came here on the way to Winston Salem. The staff clearly have a lot of returning customers because most of them addressed the customer by name. I ordered the chicken and waffles and the waitress suggested that I get the cream cheese butter and caramel. So. Good. So glad we stopped!!

Exactly what you'd expect out of a breakfast diner, but I was fine with that! I asked about gluten free options and they pretty much said I'd be good! They didn't make me super confident in my meal but I enjoyed what I ordered and felt great afterwards. They were understanding and accommodating, making for a great experience. Food came out quickly after I ordered and tasted fresh. It wasn't a spectacular breakfast but it was good. Needed lots of seasoning but it seemed like the chefs and staff were meeting the needs of the typical breakfast goers. Needs flavor but otherwise a mediocre restaurant. Might also be nice to have fresher, as well as gluten free options.

House salad

It was time for lunch on a Saturday, and I did not want to do fast food while in the area. Noticed this local place and decided to give it a try. One of the Saturday specials is chicken parmigiana, which includes the beverage and a salad. House salad was brought to the table quickly. Since my server told me the chicken parmigiana was a large portion, I had only a little of the salad. The server was attentive and asked if everything was ok with the salad since I didn't eat much of it. When I have ordered chicken parmigiana anywhere else, it is served as a chicken breast on top of spaghetti, sauce and cheese. Here the chicken was actually chopped into chicken pieces and not served as a chicken breast. Flavor was fine and certainly an ample portion, but in my opinion the dish shouldn't have been labeled as chicken parmigiana/

The pizza is very good, especially the gluten free which uses an udi crust. I love when businesses really dive into their themes. The loaded fries were delicious. Including both solid (shredded cheddar) and liquid (white queso) cheese in one dish is a genius touch. I can't believe I've never thought to do that before. We paid to add fresh jalapeños to it, which added a nice fresh and spicy kick. Other than that, this was not a good experience. I did not enjoy the pizza, and the service was practically non-existent. Our server was nowhere to be found for the first 10 minutes or so, and then failed to bring drinks for several minutes after that. And it was not busy in there at all -- lots of open tables, and plenty of staff standing around. After delivering drinks and taking our order, he did not come back. We saw him walking around in other parts of the dining room, but he did not check on us. Several minutes after finishing our drinks, no refill in sight, we flagged him down and asked for a refill, which he brought. At this point, someone else had already delivered our food, and we were well into our meal. After bringing the one drink refill, we did not see him again until we asked for the check. The pizza was pretty dry, and did not come with vodka sauce as advertised. It was a red sauce not-so-thoroughly-mixed with Alfredo. I actually don't think they mixed them at all prior to putting it on the crust -- there were quite a few unmixed pockets, so I think they dolloped both on and swirled it around. I'm sure this does achieve a vodka-like flavor if executed correctly, but that was not the case here. Vodka sauce is typically silkier, more acidic, and far less sweet than this was. I didn't really like the red sauce at all here, and would definitely not order it (or their so-called vodka sauce) again. More salt/garlic would help, but I'd probably go with another base entirely, if I were to come back. In all, this is a great place to come if you're super into music, like appetizers, don't plan on eating pizza, and want to tip an aloof teenager for doing absolutely nothing.

This was our first time at Giovanni's. We have been curious about it since moving to the area but…read moreit's never been open during the times we are driving by so I made reservations for a birthday dinner. Even though I had originally made the reservations for outdoor dining, the weather did not cooperate but it was not an issue and they had moved us inside per my reservation request. The hostess was very friendly and polite and we were seated immediately. Our server Denise came over quickly and was very friendly. Ste asked if we had been a guest before and offered some recommendations. She brought out some fresh baked bread with olive oil and balsamic for dipping - the bread was FANTASTIC! I ordered a Limoncello Martini and a bottle of Merlot, as well as the Burrata and Prosciutto appetizer. The appetizer went fabulously with the bread! The appetizer had a bit too much olive oil and balsamic in the bowl- just a drizzle if both would have been sufficient, especially with the little side plate of both that comes with the bread, but was still great! We then ordered the Lobster Ravioli and the Spaghetti alla Carbonara for our main dishes. The Lobster Ravioli had great flavor and had a good amount of lobster filling but WAY too much of the cream sauce. It could've had 1/3 of the sauce and been just as good if not better. The Spaghetti alla Carbonara was ok. Definitely NOT a traditional Carbonara. It was more of a Spaghetti Alfredo and again WAAAAYYYY too much sauce that was definitely more of an alfredo sauce than a traditional Italian Carbonara dish. I brought it home to add broccoli and chicken to the leftovers so not completely disappointed but wouldn't order it again. We also ordered the Key Lime Pie and Tiramisu desserts to go. The tiramisu was definitely not a traditional tiramisu as it had a heavy chocolate sauce/ganache on top rather than the traditional cocoa powder dusting but was ok. A tad on the thin/soggy side. Would probably not order this again either. I will say that the ambiance was great and the staff was so friendly! The appetizer and martini were so good that I will DEFINITELY be back for the appetizer, service and to give something else on the menu a shot. We are looking forward to hopefully being able to enjoy the outdoor dining next time and will definitely ask for Denise again.

The service is terrible, and the food is even worse. There was a flimsy "room" divider covering some boxes they have in the middle of the dining area, the divider fell on top of a person that was dining right next to our table. The gentleman was injured and the server barely apologized and proceeded to pick up the divider and place it back up despite it being on the way and clearly flimsy. I ordered spaghetti carbonara and added a side of grilled chicken. This was the worse carbonara I've ever had, it was more like an Alfredo gone wrong. It was drenched in a heavy creamy sauce, inedible. The chicken was as dry as the desert, overcooked and flavorless. Service was extremely slow, inattentive and unfriendly. Save yourself the headache, you will be better off at McDonald's for 1/10th of the price.

I…read moreactually grew up in High Point, but had never eaten inside the actual restaurant until a week ago. That said, I have had pizzas either by take-out or delivery several times over what has to be 30 years now. Lately, I had a couple basic pizzas from them at a function in downtown, and we also stopped in for lunch on a total whim, wanting a pizza buffet. First, the pizzas over the years. I would say, on par with most of the locally owned pizza and local franchise spots around, like an Elizabeth's. Sometimes, I would describe the pizza as dry, other times, the sauce ratio is a little better and it is quite good. The pizza is a solid 4 stars, I would say, if you're considering a pizza... go for it, decide for yourself. Now, our most recent experience inside the restaurant, was simply not a positive one. We came in around 1pm, wanting to do the pizza buffet. Unfortunately, looking at what was available, it just wasn't appealing. The pizza was very cold, it needed a refresh. We expressed this to the waitress. If she had said "we'll make you a fresh pizza of whichever type you want" we'd have been game. That's not the response we got, so we moved on to hot subs. I ordered the meatball sub, my wife ordered chicken parm. The meatball was, just ok. The meatballs themselves were sliced and warm, sauce was the same I was used to from the pizza, cheese could have used more time to melt, but overall... I was OK. Her sandwich, was not good at all. She did write her own review about it, and I happen to agree. It's generally expected that ordering a chicken parm sandwich at an italian pizzeria is going to be a breaded cutlet. What was given was the shaved chicken that you would normally see if someone orders chicken on a pizza (not my thing, but to each their own). The result was very very dry chicken. The sandwich sat on her plate with two bites taken out of it for the meal duration. No prompt was given for whether we enjoyed our meal. In all, I learned my lesson that day, that this place is good for a fresh pizza. I'll only go that route in the future. The sandwiches were simply not our preference. The chicken parm needs to be rethought, or better explained as shaved chicken.

Aside from the kind server and clean interior, this was a terrible experience. We wanted to go to…read moreanother restaurant's pizza buffet, but got there and saw that it was closed, and decided to try this one instead. We took one look at the pizza buffet and decided ordering a fresh sandwich would be better than the cold, unappealing slices sitting out. We were wrong. My partner ordered the meatball sub. It wasn't half-bad. Nothing stellar, but no real complaints. I ordered what was described as a "Chicken Parmesan" sub. What came out was dried, rotisserie chicken with a little bit of bland marinera sauce and mozzarella cheese that wasn't even fully melted. When I read "chicken parm," my assumption is that it's a breaded, fried chicken cutlet baked with marinera and cheese, then placed on a sub roll. Not whatever that was. So I really only had a few bites and couldn't bring myself to continue eating it. A person who appeared to be in management stopped by to ask if I wanted a box, and I kindly replied no thank you. I was somewhat expecting him to ask how the meal was since he clearly saw I didn't eat it. But nothing from him.
