Extremely satisfied customer. Recommended to make an appt by a friend that goes here and I have met the owner before so I was willing to try a trim here first. Appointments are booked up so definitely call in advance but my shampoo, trim, & blowdry was fast and barely cost more than $20. I've paid over $30 elseware for the same quality. I then made an appointment for highlights with the owner Jenny, which was again, the fastest and best priced job in the area. The blonde slices matched my previous color and blend in naturally with my real color. The shop is clean and decor is adorable. i do have a couple friends that work here, so i'll have to tell you how great they are. but as far as the business itself goes, i'm not biased. i went here BEFORE i got to know any of the girls that work here and have always loved it. i heard about roots shortly after it opened. the owner is a friend of a friend so i decided to check it out. at this time, i had my own regular hairstylist that i always went to, so i was weary to switch, but even so i had a great experience. cut and feather extensions and actually good conversation in an ADORABLE shop. ok yeah, i need to take a minute to talk about the shop itself. jenny - the owner - has the cutest pintrest-would-be-proud taste. the shop is so pretty! and the design elements are clever too! ok, so i've been back to roots here and there, but they are so damn good that they never have openings! i felt like i had to schedule so far in advance to even get in (but hey, that's good for business, so i really can't be mad at them). i thought prices seemed steep, but i was used to getting deals from the lady i had been going to. when i started getting my hair cut in pittsburgh, i quickly realized roots was a bargain! so, my first time back at roots was just recently. my friend emily had just graduated beauty school and was hired by roots. (ps. if your'e reading this close to the posting date, book up! emily has a bunch of openings which are still hard to find over there and i doubt that'll last long!) so i told her i'd come in for a color and trim. when i got there, emily greeted me, as did jenny, and another great stylist, billie lynn. granted, i knew all of them, at least relatively well, but they were all super friendly and fun to talk to. while i'm throwing names out there, brooke is also excellent, she just wasn't there that day. anyway, now that i'm done bragging about the employees - i asked for a relatively complicated dye job, so it took a few hours but the results were perfect. i was completely happy with how my hair looked in the end. and i was completely happy with the price! as a new customer, FYI, you get 20% off your first visit. you don't need to go to pittsburgh and spend all your money or fantastic sams and end up unhappy. your new favorite salon is right in your home town! read more

I do not have enough good things to say about Roots Hair and Nail Salon. I do have a good friend who is a stylist there which makes me a little biased, but this salon is top-notch, big city-quality, fantastic! I was a notorious salon-hopper. Bought Groupons, changed stylists, took friends' recommendations, etc. I had been going to a high-end salon in Pittsburgh and loved it (but not the prices!), but switched to Roots as soon as my girl Emily was done with cosmetology school. I am telling you, Roots is on the level of even the highest-end salons, but doesn't make you feel uncomfortable walking in. The environment is welcoming, chic, and clean. The girls who work there, whom I have gotten to know over the years, are super cool, down to earth, and professional. I trust them with my everything! I recently went to have my hair trial done for my wedding and Jenny, the owner, made me look like a rad, Pinterest bride! I am also notoriously obsessive about my hair, and Jenny made me feel calm and confident. Overall, Roots is A+. I highly recommend leaving the city and taking a drive to Mount Pleasant to see the chicks at Roots! You will not be disappointed! Love it! read more
