We recently moved to this area so my husband wanted to take me out for some bbq. We drove literally 2 minutes and we got to this place. I was surprised as it looked as if it was out of business. It looks rundown. The young man at the window was friendly and gave us suggestions. We waited by our car and we saw a few stray cats that apparently live in the wilderness adjacent to the restaurant. I love cats but to see them roaming around the front of the restaurant was something I wasn't accustomed to doing. Picked up our food and went home. I was so looking forward to eating some tasty bbq from a place I had driven by on many occasions but I was disappointed. Overall, my experience was not what I had hoped for. We stopped here on our way to Key West, only because we had accidentally missed a turn. We did not regret it one bit! Although it was pouring down rain, we didn't mind eating in the car, since the patio was closed due to covid. The gator bites, gator ribs and the frog legs were all delicious, so was the pulled pork sandwich. So good, that we returned days later, took a 100 mile drive from Naples, just to get some more. I ate here for the first time in February of 2015. I'm a truck driver and rarely in the area. But when I had a run that had me with a layover in the Miami area, I knew I had to come back here. I ordered the gator ribs in 2015 & I ordered them again this time. Both instances, they were delicious, full of awesome smoked meat and worth the mile walk from the truck stop (or nearly 2 mile trek if you're parked at the casino). Went to shoot Trap at Trail Glades Range and then stopped at this joint for a bbq chicken and cole slaw. It was the same procedure two weeks ago, and a young blonde served me. She was friendly and courteous. Then I decided to repeat the same procedure today and was met by Sonia. Right off the bat she told that for takeout it was inside. But I protested that last time I sat outside waiting for the food and nursing a beer. She comes back ten minutes later and warned me that because I didn't go inside, and didn't see the sign, that I couldn't pay with a credit card, only cash. I told her that I brought cash, but that it's ridiculous for a restaurant to have such a policy. From there our conversation went into a tailspin, and she finally told me to leave without paying for the beer. The Pit Bar-B-Q is a hidden gem within the inland area of Miami. I've been going there for over 7+ years. I'm going to take my time to write this review. Here you go: 5 stars!! A lot may ask why? Well it's simple, it offers a unique charm to the inland area crowd. The BBQ is amazing. The churrasco has to be one of my favorites. Always tender. The fry dough is delicious, comes out fresh. They always serve a good amount of French fries. The atmosphere is conducive for a fun time, even though sometimes is livelier than other it's never a dull moment. Always consider this to any place you go before you review it bad.. Value the place for what it is and not what is worth. Let me explain, the severs are unique, they all add a charm to the place. The live music is also unique, why? They play local Cuban/Latin flare to your weekends. Sometimes you have a show going on!! It's an experience that you can only experience if you GO! One tip I'll suggest is to have a CC machine it's 2020 and people use CC. No one carries cash. Yes, you may provide an ATM, but remember that the ATM charges the patron (costumer) a FEE. Pretty disappointed in this lunch experience. First off... They only take cash. There's an ATM machine inside but when another customer went to use it there wasn't money. So... Good luck paying for your sh*tty meal. The food is over priced and not very good. They ran out of several items on the menu and were really pushing the ribs... I think that they "ran out" of other items so we'd order the more expensive meal. I ordered the gator nuggets. I ate half because only half of them tasted good, the others were overcooked, chewy, and fishy. We asked for water and were brought water bottles. Beware if you do this, because they're going to charge you $3 a bottle for Wal-Mart brand water. When we went to pay, the server said that the price on the menu was out dated and charged us more than the menu stated. This was interesting because she had complained to us at the start of lunch about how the "new"menus were too large. Also... They charge an 18% gratuity. I would never eat here again. read more

Great place! Good thing I didn't pay attention to the negative reviews. We had a delicious lunch today and we really enjoyed everything. We sat outside at the picnic tables under the huge tiki hut. Loads of pork on a brioche bun also served with 2 sides. He chose fries and coleslaw. He said fries yay and coleslaw nay. He loved his sandwich but will order the same thing I had next time. Mom in law ordered the 1/2 rack of ribs served with 2 sides too. She chose baked beans and coleslaw for her sides. She really loved it! Ribs were slow roasted and very tender. This is a little inside/outside, roadside eatery in Miami. The ambiance is mix of Texas BBQ/Tropical dive. The staff was very friendly and the food was great. I had the Baby Back Rib dinner with fries and slaw. The ribs were falling off the bone and just plain excellent. The only downside, was that their credit/debit card system was out of order and we needed cash, which I usually don't carry. There is an ATM on site, but for a fee. Ladies liked their ribs and sides. Sent back my pulled pork (looked good, but less than room temperature). Sorry, I didn't order food poisoning. Waitress was congenial. Brought to corn cobs instead of one because they were smallish. Brought flan and key lime desserts to make up for my meal (I don't eat either but, hey, it's the thought that counts). They have been out for a few weeks, understood; we've all been hit with supply chain issues lately, but at least inform people prior to seating them. Wow, I can't believe it's been more than 7 years since a half dozen of us Yelpers came here after a nighttime ride through nearby Shark Valley. I returned here again recently after yet another ride, albeit this time during the day. Pretty much everything from my original review still stands. We came here, and even though the place was busy on this Saturday afternoon at around 3 we were able to find parking, and there were a few open benches for 4 outside under the wooden shelter-type roof. If one was willing to sit in the sun, they had even more bench seating available there. We were greeted right away with menus and the staff took our drink orders. Within a few minutes they were back to ask if we'd like any appetizers. I had exactly the same meal I had 7 years ago; the BBQ chicken and pork rib combo. It was as good as I remembered it, and they still offer the same 2 BBQ sauces (mustard based and traditional sweet). The big difference is that the prices have jumped quite a bit since my last visit - but it's still an OK value IMO. In all this was a good meal, and even though the place was busy, service was attentive and the food came out in an acceptable amount of time after we'd ordered. Restrooms are still outside - out in back of the restaurant itself, and even though it looks shady walking up to it, the mens room was clean. read more

This place is definitely a hidden gem. Passing by, it looks like just another BBQ pit stop, but go inside and it's so much more. Hadn't been here in over 2 years and let me tell you the Pit has had a major glow up. It's a super cute outdoor seating area with live music and tiki vibes. Their menu is very Florida-esque which is always fun to bring people from out of town. The food also was absolutely delicious. We ordered the shrimp ceviche, the FAMOUS gator bites (which was shockingly good, having not ever had them before), and cod fritters and it was *chef's kiss*. The live music artist was fantastic and really tied the whole atmosphere together. Would definitely come again and even drive out of my way to visit. 10/10. read more

They only have bottled drinks so even a water cost $3 and for paying close to $50 for two of us for lunch I was applauded at what we got. Terrible, this is the first and last time that I eat here. To be fair, I gave it one solid star. Our table service was far from great but the young lady was warm and friendly. Her genuine personality, while answering our questions earned her the 15% mandatory tip, no problem; and while she did hook us up no charge when we asked for free refills, which is not allowed by management, she really didn't check on us after serving our food. The space is cool. The authentic southern decor is a novelty in Miami-Dade County. It is remenisent of a cabin in the Blue Ridge mountains, and was an enjoyable aesthetic delight. Where The Pit has its steep downfall is in the tasteless food. BBQ is an art form and the cook scribbles in the kitchen, like a 3 year old: chaotic, aimless and, careless. What really hurt, is the high priced plates. I could have gone to Famous Daves in Doral and had way better BBQ for half the price. Stopped for lunch yesterday! I must say the food was pretty good. Problem is, charges and bill is shady. The menu needs to be updated. Prices are written in hand and some put over other prices so not sure what you should pay! An automatic 15% tip is added to the bill which I took great exception too. I am not obligated to leave a tip, it is at my discretion. They also "do not" accept credit cards, cash only! What does that tell you! When it came time to pay the bill, the waiter got hostile as we questioned the charges. He did take the tip off the bill and when we offered to leave him one he rejected it! Further to above! The waiter has sent me several messages saying that the above report is not true! I believe this BBQ restaurant is not honest and doesn't deserve to stay open! The last thing I needed was to listen to some self-aggrandizing, washed-up karaoke singer catering to a few raft-racers who prefer loud "Latin" music to good food. The beef in the sandwiches is more like corned beef rather than brisket. The pulled pork is good. The once, good variety of BBQ sauces are now gone. Replaced by to-go cups of restaurant supply store cold and sweet BBQ sauce. Fries were great though. My good memories of this former go-to spot for awesome BBQ have now been washed away like Wilson in "Castaway." Just wish the crowd here was as well. But back south. After having driven by a few times we picked up some takeout BBQ for a Sunday dinner. Everything we had was good - The Ribs, Chicken, and even the tamale was tasty. While this seems like the only BBQ place on this side of town, I felt like it was a little pricey $$, but maybe that's me. There are a few other places locally that give you a little more value for the money. Somehow babyback ribs are expensive no matter where you go. Can't complain about the food or the taste. I think the outdoor tiki bar is next on our list to go for happy hour, as the beer prices were good! The smoky sweet flavor was ideal for a late afternoon, portions are right and sharing is a must. Their homemade key-lime pie was mediocre. No tangy, just too sweet. Went to the bar to order a beer after waiting 20 minutes and the bar refused to sell me a beer saying they "couldn't keep up the with ticket" even tho I was paying with cash at the bar. After 45 minutes of waiting we finally asked for the check. From what I hear the food is great, but lack of service and inability to get drinks or appetizers killed the experience.
