Like many places where live music plays, the WC has much going for it which this review will emphasise especially since the only other review is from a few years ago.
Basically the venue is indeed primarily a council-run sports centre first and entertainment venue second.
It has a small bar with friendly staff and reasonable prices. Seating and tables are nearby and sports TV at times. Therefore it is a nice place to go for a drink and a chat. It also has a massive free car park and is a very short drive off the H7 so is easy to find. No food is available as such vending machines offer the usual though tea and coffee are another option.
Music comes in two forms. Every Sunday covers bands play either in the bar or, more commonly, on the main theatre stage. Some of these bands also play original material and cover quite a wide range of styles. Entry for these concerts is free.
Evenings sometimes feature tribute and original bands though not as often as I would like. Over the years many big names from all round the world have played there including Placebo and Ash, Robert Plant, Dream Theater and many others. Sadly those days have gone but promoters are working on it and hopefully the new year, 2012, will see something of a return to form.
The stage is quite big and wide and there is planty of room for dancing Sundays also has seating but generally it is standing only.
Generally speaking, the venue has been renovated well and is much nicer all round than maybe it once was including the toilets! In fact the WC is one of the least worst music venues around the locale in overall terms.
Photography etc is permitted most times but as always it is best to be polite and ask for permission first. read more
