I'm not sure about the history of the building. Like most places in this area, I suspect it was an older building that was updated. They did a great job. The building is beautiful. While waiting, you are in an open space. They have a small snack bar, there was a table of wares the group was selling, and lots of people congregating. (All wore masks except for two people.) When you do enter the theater, you find your seats. The seats were comfortable. The show started on time and the musicians and dancers did their things. The sound system was marvelous. In sum, this was a great and unexpected experience for a small town. If you find yourself in Whitehall, MI, this is not one to miss.

I, myself, once took to the stage before a full house, and let me be the first (but hopefully not the last!) to say that beneath the lights and under the gaze of your audience, there is no greater thrill than to present your learned story with all of the passion and excitement that you have been saving up to that point! I've also sat in the seats of this wonderful ninety-three year old theater and taken in several shows - the seating, stage, balcony, music pit...all of it is lovingly preserved by amazing volunteers and donors, giving it an antiquated feel that you simply cannot replicate with modern materials. This is the genuine theater experience, and White Lake has it right under their noses. Sadly, there exists no more under-appreciated landmark in all of the White Lake area than the Howmet Playhouse. Donations are constantly being collected, but it seems as though repairs are slow in coming on some occassions. While the money coming in to the Playhouse have been enough to keep it going, it is nothing short of a crime that there exists no established subsidies for its continual maintenance and care. I'm not sure if the White Lake Chamber of Commerce realizes this or not, but looking at the area from the outside, there is VERY little to keep people's attention in regard to tourism. Treasures like the Howmet are the lifeblood of the tourism trade, and more effort should be made in utilizing the playhouse in promoting unique performances that tell the story of the White Lake area. Someone in an official capacity really needs to stand up and take this wonderful building more seriously, realizing its importance in White Lake's existence. If you're in the area, I urge you to take in a show! It's more than just a nostalgic glimpse into the past for long-time residents - it's a piece of it's very history, and that history deserves respect. The Howmet is a truly entertaining venue that will transport you not only into the worlds presented on stage, but also into the past of this beautiful Michigan community.

Follow the signs to the main pumpkin patch and peruse the grounds till you find your favorite pumpkin, butternut squash, delicata squash, and more! These are the most unique pumpkins I have ever seen and I wish I lived closer to visit more often. Hours are listed 8-5pm on google because 'dawn to dusk everyday' isn't an option. But stop by anytime before dusk before it's all gone. Though Scholl's Farm is not certified organic yet, I can vouch for the organic practices used. What a relief to find an organic pick-your-own farm! We were fortunate to meet Stu, the 2nd generation farmer who runs the place with Connie. He explained to us everything he does and answered all my questions, sharing lovely stories of his parents who met at our cabins (Double JJ resort). We even got to see the newborn lambs up close. He even sold me some fresh chopped wood for a steal that I can't wait to use in our wedding as props. He is such a personable character that spending more time expected at his farm was not anticipated but definitely cherished. Can't wait to come back soon!

Great marina! While the docks are getting to the point they need some work, overall the marina is a…read moregreat example of a well run west Michigan marina. Clean bathrooms and showers. WiFi is excellent. There are two clubhouses to choose from that are completely modern and well maintained. A large outdoor gazebo that is regularly used for cookouts and entertainment. Throughout the summer they have live music and get togethers. The marina is at the very east end of White Lake. The approach is a bit sketchy with a lot of shallows that is not friendly to any boat with a draft of more than 3'. If you stay in the well marked channel all will be well. The fishing is spectacular as the lake is fed by the white river. The white river is one of the best trout streams in Michigan. The bass fishing is text book with plenty of lunkers to catch and release. In the fall the steelhead and salmon run up this river for some of Michigan's best fishing. This marina is highly recommended. If you are looking for seasonal slip rental be sure to arrange winter storage ahead of time as storage is very tight and there is a waiting list. Maintenance, repairs and storage are handled onsite by Crosswinds marina. These guys will surprise you with their knowledge and capabilities.

I Move Physical Therapy in the Viking Athletic Center is REAL Nightmare experience!…read more October 2024. I sent complaints to the Manager Audra and the co-owner Marty about Gina, the Director of Whitehall, who billed my insurance for treatment I DID NOT receive! I went 4 months with no diagnosis or treatment for my spine and rib injuries! Also reported to them Gina's sexual harassment, after which she bullied me for not complying!!! A few months after leaving I'Move, had a bad fall from the lack of treatment and sustained new injuries, this too was reported to them. The complaints were sent because I had refused to pay my last bill and after receiving my complaints I'MOVE deleted my copay balance. FYI I went to Whitehall 2x week for 4 months thinking with EVERY visit my issues were being treated! Gina even told me "you will have to live with your condition for the rest of your life." Knowing her lack of diagnosis and treatment would cause me to keep falling!!! Also complained about Luke's rude comments and the day Luke's Uncle visited and made blatant sexual harassment comments to Gina she enjoyed it! She allowed the uncle to stand in the school hallway for 15 minutes staring at her in a creepy way while she was treating me!! Luke never turned around or stopped his uncle's horrific actions. Then I was harassed by Luke's uncle when I left the clinic!! Desperate for access to health care I left Whitehall and went to downtown Muskegon and was treated by Marty the co-owner, who diagnosed a serious spine injury causing my instability and 2 ribs out in my back. The other P.T. diagnosed 4 more ribs out in my back. 6 in total! After Marty found out why I left Gina the Directors "care" he refused to treat me because his reaction and ONLY concern was to get mad at my complaints, NOT the lack of diagnosis and sexual predation by his clinic Director! When I asked Audra what I'MOVE would be doing to prevent Gina from hurting people again? Her response was that both owners were notified and that they would be "handling it at that level and in a confidential HR manner". NO ONE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO TREAT OTHERS THIS WAY!

One of the best things you could do in the White Lake area... climb the White River Lighthouse! The…read morelighthouse is so historic and is truly a one of a kind. It is tucked away in Whitehall but worth the drive. There is free parking on site. You can only climb the lighthouse May-October as it is a seasonal operation. It is $8 for adults to climb and $5 for children 17 and under. It is worth every dollar to climb the lighthouse. The view of Lake MI and the White Lake Channel in unreal. The blue tones of the water really show. A beautiful sight to see! There is a small gift shop where you can purchase nautical, Great Lakes themed items such as keychains, wall art, t-shirts, etc. The lighthouse keeper is always very kind when we take our family from out of town there.

You can even climb up the spiral staircase to the top (about 50 steps) and look out over Lake Michigan like the light keepers did in the past. A great little museum is in the building with great old photos, nautical artifacts, a life ring from The Edmund Fitzgerald, and even the original 4th order Fresnel Lens. There's an intro movie in the building next to the lighthouse with more artifacts. Easy walk to the beach. Took just under an hour.
