Cool bar and great food! Waitstaff was super friendly. I tried the gnocchi and it was so good. It had pistachio, Jalepeno, and crispy kale. Sounded like an interesting combination, and flavors ending up going together really well! My husband had the fish and chips and enjoyed it. We also tried some beers. Overall a great experience!

Fish and chips were excellent but the burger was sad. The bun was cold and the patty apparently can only be served well done. Does it come from frozen? Also very small for the price. Recommend making a reservation as it does reach capacity. Rooms are small, bathroom and bed are clean, carpet is a little dirty.

Fantastic restaurant. Venison Burger, chips and side salad were all delicious. The staff were so busy and yet very attentive.

This is the 8th day of our trip, having already been to Edinburgh and Islay. This is BY FAR the best meal we have had! Very well seasoned and large portions. We would come back for a second night if we could get a reservation!

The blade of beef was amazing. I wanted to soak up every drop of gravy and eat every bite. The atmosphere is cozy and casual. We arrived early in the evening during a November day and were able to get a table without a reservation. My husband had the gnocchi. It was good but the beef was better. The place fills up even in the off season.

For Antler's Bar & Grill: I was here back in March 2023 and most recently, mid-October 2023, and both times, I ordered the smoked haddock and potato chowder. It was my first foray into Scotland's Cullen skink and I was over the moon at how simple and delicious it was--it really hit the spot, especially on that blustery day in late winter. Service in March was nice. We were with a tour group so the staff were kept on their toes (especially since there had been a power outage and they'd just gotten electricity back). In October, the service was a bit lackluster, as we'd ordered a coffee, never received it, but it was still on the bill (it was removed without issue), and we couldn't flag down our waitress, or anyone else when we needed them. But that wasn't the end of the world. They looked busy. It was still a very tasty meal. If I ever make it back to Portree, I'll be sure to come here again but try something different. But the allure of that chowder . . .

Photo is actually from the bakery (MacKenzie's) across the courtyard. Same treats served at the hotel.

Located in the central square in Portree, Antlers is inside the Portree Hotel. They also own MacKenzie's Bakery across the square, home to delicious award winning shortbread. Assessing the lunch menu didn't have much by way of healthy options I opted for the mac & cheese that came with a side of ... chips. For all my skepticism it was a really good Mac and cheese and I did eat a few of the chips dipped in leftover cheese sauce. I noticed on the counter that they had some terrific looking squares available. They were from the bakery across the street that we had been to prior. Lol. Plenty of clean washroom stalls available.

Wow!! This is a late post from our trip back in September to the UK. It was our first time there and for a couple days we embarked on a tour to the Scottish Highlands. We stayed in Portree and were highly encouraged by our tour company to make reservations for dinner. Portree is a small town and the restaurants are busy if you don't reserve. I'm so glad we did! First off the service was amazing, we got there early but were able to hang around till our table was ready. They had some daily specials including the pan seared scallops so we decided to try that. It was so fresh and all the flavors and elements in the dish went so well together. The braised greens were cooked well and had a good flavor to it, not bland at all! For entrees we tried the lamb shoulder with haggis (when in Scotland, gotta try) and fish and chips. The lamb was cooked perfectly. The haggis tasted good but we learnt that it's not quite our thing and that's alright. The fish and chips were good, nothing spectacular about it but still good. Now the star dish of the night though, has to be the sticky toffee pudding. I think it came with ice cream and some miso caramel thing. It was the most moist and tastiest sticky toffee pudding we had on this trip and that I've had, ever (I can't say I've had plenty though). Other places we went to just didn't come close. So prepare for your sticky toffee pudding bar to be set real high. Overall a wonderful place to dine when in Portree. Fresh food and beautifully cooked, great flavors and awesome service.

Note- The Antlers Restaurant in The Portree Hotel requires reservations. The decor and feel is nothing special, and almost bare, but the food makes up for it. The service was good, although slow to get your food and very slow to get your check. However, it seemed that Post Covid the severe lack of staff has made it difficult to maintain the same level of service. We had the: Smoked Haddock & Potato Chowder, it comes with a surprise- a Poached Egg in the center that adds to the creaminess of the dish Potato & Blue Cheese Salad -unusual take on a classic, but so delicious. Grilled Salmon - with leeks, Smoked Mussels (yum), Confit Tomatoes, Lemon Butter Sauce and Duck Fat Roast Potatoes (double yum). The specialty drink menu had many interesting things, but I enjoyed the Whiskey Sour, which was very lemony and foamy. The desserts that were coming out of the kitchen looked amazing, but sadly we had no room left as the portions are very generous, and the prices were very good for such good food. It definitely felt like a special meal.

This review is for the hotel's restaurant, Antlers Bar & Grill. I guess that it's relatively new, but it seemed to get decent business. Our Rabbie's tour stopped in Portree for lunch. Our guide pointed out several different dining options on our way into town, but my husband and I knew we'd be dining at Antlers, just based on the fact that they were one of the only ones that served traditional Scottish fare. We got a nice table next to the window, which mostly offered a great view of the street and the rain (mostly because the view was often blocked by taxis and vans). We each ordered a pint to start, of course, then decided on a few items. Starving as we were, we thought that having an appetizer and entree each was a brilliant idea! I went with the soup of the day, while my husband tried the Haggis Croquettes. For entrees, I went traditional with the Haggis, Neeps & Tatties, while the hubs ordered the Venison Meatloaf. Too. Much. Food. The soup was perfectly delicious, served with a couple slices of hearty bread. The meat and vegetables gave a nice bite to the sauciness of the soup base. My husband practically inhaled his croquettes and the dipping sauce that came with it. (The sauce was the same used in my Haggis main, and I must say it was very good.) I probably could've walked away from the table feeling perfectly satiated after the bowl of soup, but of course, I had ordered myself a plate of Haggis, Neeps, and Tatties, which put me way over my threshold. The haggis was full of flavor and paired well with the sauce. I love me some mashed potatoes - and the neeps were scrumptious as well - but it didn't take long for me to get tired of eating starch. My husband's meatloaf came with its own side of mashed potatoes and braised greens. He loved the flavor of the meat, which made him very happy (and full). The first girl that helped us out (drink orders) wasn't so great, but we finished out our meal with another, more experienced staff member, who made it a point to make us feel welcome and ask about our trip.

We had a nice dinner here (Antlers, the hotel restaurant) while visiting Skye. The service was friendly and attentive, and the food was hearty and tasty. The bartender had good recommendations for local gins and scotch they served. The sticky toffee pudding was excellent.

Room two, the Kehdra. Very nice!

This is a nice hotel with a very friendly staff. Things to be aware of. It is in city center and the tour buses stop and idle there. It can be loud but earplugs are the fix. There is no air conditioning, but it was not needed while we where there. An open window worked fine. GET THE LARGER ROOM! We stayed one night in the smaller rooms and were miserable. A double bed and a very cramped space. Fortunately, we were able to book the available large deluxe room for our second night. Roomy, King size bed and VERY comfortable! We were in heaven once more. The included breakfasts for guests at the hotel were outstanding. Four stars for room two!

Stumbling into Portree later on in the evening, it can be confusing to decide where to eat. There are half a dozen restaurants in the tiny town square that all look to serve similar food at similar price points. I think we were luckily to pick the Portree hotel, because the food was reasonably priced but absolutely delicious. We had split some appetizers and the sea bass plate, and it was really exceptional. I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice place to sit down and have dinner.

Poorly executed food and a clueless server had us just ready to get out the door by the time we were done. They do not take reservations, so we waited about an hour for what looked to be an attractive place with appealing dishes. Not so. Things started off ok with baked Camembert, as well as steamed mussels. Not bad. The main courses though were disastrous. A venison burger that was so dry it was hardly edible. Venison is of course very lean, and Caroy House did nothing to try to juice it up or preserve flavor. Just a very generous, double patty portion of super dry venison. The regular beef burger was about the same - very overcooked and without flavor. I had the flatiron steak, and it came with loads of mushrooms, sauce, salad and fries. I ordered the steak medium and it came out almost rare. I rarely (har har) send food back, but this was way under the desired temperature. The worst part was trying to get our waitress' attention, her waving us off (when we finally did get it), forgetting things, and then acting as if she hadn't really missed getting us what we needed. Plus an oh-so-long wait for everything. Poor service, poor execution. Bad food. Like I said, don't wait for it.

The food and flavors are from the Highlands and Skye and I loved their placement, its a map of Skye and some of the food produced in that region. The chef is a young man and I saw him coming out of the the busy kitchen a couple times to take a break. He shook my hand when he asked what Whisky I was drinking and I told him a Gelnfidditch 18. The two problems with the restaurant were they had the heat turned on very high, it was uncomfortably hot and I would honestly rather have been cold. The other problem was they were very short staffed so the meal started out great but our server was invisible toward the end and we sat around for 20 minutes trying to see him so we could leave. Haggis + Paneer Pakora: Great Haggis fusion dish, felt traditional and yet paid homage to some of the new cultures that make up the UK. Slow Braised Lamb Shank: Rosemary Infused Mashed Potato and Roasted Root Vegetable. Very tender and delicious, our whole family shared this even though it started off as just my wifes dinner. Sole Veronique: Potatoes, spinach, and a cream sauce. Tasted OK but I thought the sauce was too heavy for the light fish it was on. If you go across the street from the restaurant and look down you can see the iconic row of different colored houses that a lot of people were taking pictures of.
