We've been coming here for years. It was a favorite of my parents. Hadn't been here in a long time. All the siblings live out of town. My sister & I were down to clean out my mom's condo after her passing. We took the train from NY, went right over at 5PM, and were received professionally and warmly. Sat at the bar, got great service with drinks made expertly to our requests. No pressure, polite and non-intrusive service. Ordered crab cakes w/ sides, and were comped some apps and dessert after the bartender heard our story. Knowing this would likely be the last trip to Baltimore, THIS was the place to go. (We had reservations @ 3 other places, just weren't sure where we'd want to dine.) Greenberg potatoes: delicious, done just right. Crab cakes: excellent lump, no filler, 4 - FOUR - choices of sauces to accompany. The salads - Buzz & House, were filling & flavorful. This is just such a classic, well worth the he trip & expense. A fun app throwback to more formal times, but fortunately the dress code has relaxed, and Sundays they have 1/2 priced bottles of wine. G'hedd hon, izz wurth da trip. read more

The Prime Rib is a chain of 3 restaurants and I must say the one in Baltimore blows away the one in Philly. This place is an incredible throwback in time in a good way. The maître d' is in white tie. Waiters in nice neckties. Our waiter was amazing. Voice like James Earl Jones, he has been there since the beginning, 45 years! He seemed to sense our every need without our telling him. The decor is simple and elegant. The restaurant is quiet due to the insulative properties of the decor. It's dark and puts you at ease. Unfortunately we were on tap to visit 3 restaurants in one night but we didn't even have to tell our waiter this. We got out in an hour. I would love to come back and do a proper 3 hours here. Ok food: crab imperial. I was worried everything here would be slathered in fat and salt and be just way too heavy in the stomach but it wasn't. The crab imperial was lightly dressed and the crab shone through beautifully. And wow I could have had 3 orders. Clams casino came out sizzling hot. Great crispy bacon, wonderful. I was scooping out all I could from the shell. Oysters Rockefeller, not ashamed of putting the spinach in it. Very nicely done. Good quantity of cheese. Not the best I've ever had but quite good. The only item that fell short was the cut of the filet mignon and its flavor. We had it with Oscar sauce which was great, full of crab. The asparagus that came with it was perfect. The steak was cooked perfectly but it was too thin. We wondered if that was on purpose due to the height of the Oscar on top? Also the char on the steak was light in color suggesting a lower flame. But hey if that's all that wasn't perfect that's not major. We will come back and give this place the time it deserves. read more

This was part three of my restaurant week adventures. I heard so many great things about the Prime Rib and was excited to check it out. First off, the service was excellent, always had my glass filled and was checked on often. They also had wine bottle specials for restaurant week which was a great touch. For the food, I had the tomato soup for appetizer, the filet mignon for entree, and chocolate mousse pie for dessert and they were all top notch! The only thing I will say is that the place is a little stuffy and I felt like the youngest person there. Make sure to dress nice as it is a classy establishment. read more

Today's Father's Day and my lovely wife and daughter decided to take me to The Prime Rib this evening. We are major foodies and new to the Maryland / Baltimore scene as Orange County, CA and LA have been our norm. It was a puzzle trying to find this location and not in an area that you would think a fine dining establishment would be located. As we walked in after valet parking, it was very quiet and empty around 4:00 p.m. We were promptly taken to our table #85. As first time diners we quickly learned that most that sat around us knew the drill as repeat customers. I started off with a Manhattan which was very nice. One ice tea and waters for the table completed our beverage list. Bread arrived and my daughter devoured. My wife ordered Escargot which was wonderful. My lobster bisque was very tasty but had very little lobster. While our waiter brought out the bottle of Sherry, he knocked my water over right into my wife's lap. He apologized but no real effort made in service recovery. The experience changed our overall dining and everything else just became basic. My Prime Rib Steak was massive and the thickest steak I ever had. My wife had to put salt and pepper on her Crab Imperial and my daughters chicken remained untouched after a few bites. Wasn't horrible, but didn't excite the palate. We boxed everything to go. Our waiter ran down our options of desserts. I ordered the Warm Apple Pie Ala Mode which came at room temperature. The late was very hot with slightly warm Crist and cold filling. Please be aware: watch your check as the price on the menu is different from the receipt by $1. Yes, not a big deal but after your wife is sitting in ice cold water on her lap and blouse you can understand. No worries, since no service recovery was even attempted I deducted my dessert and the $1 from the tip. This is an establishment that i would recommend for service. Food is always great. Service has been great up until tonight. Had a waiter named Mark- he was TERRIBLE. IN ATTENTIVE. RUDE. DID NOT OFFER TO REFILL OR ORDER DRINKS. CAME FOR DESSERT ORDER AND TOOK THE COUPLES ORDER WE WERE With , never offered us dessert. Did not offer coffee at end of meal. When we asked him about some up charges we have never noticed on our bill- he was rude and arrogant. "Pinny"drink cost extra $8 because it was served in martini glass- which we did not ask for. That was in addition to the$18 drink cost. My husband ordered crown on the rocks. They charged him $2.50 for " rocks" or ice! Really??? Our 1st return to indoor dining in over a year... and we elected to go to our fave celebratory spot...the Prime Rib of Baltimore. Prior to Covid, The PR was always a solid 5. The Prime Rib is our "go to" place for birthdays and anniversaries. Friday 4/16....not so much. We enjoyed our meal and enjoyed just getting to dine indoors immensely. We were 1st to be seated at 5pm to a secluded and safe table for 3. In our dining room, there were only two other couples safely spaced in the dining room. We were informed of the PR policy on masks and our professional waiter, Bradley could not have been more professional and responsive. I ordered the special Manhattan and was disappointing in its taste and it also did not come with the touted and requisite Maraschino Cherry, Bradley immediately returned with two! For my second drink, I asked If PR had Pinch. " Yes of course, right away." Bradley returned somewhat humbled...no Pinch. I then ordered Chivas on the Rocks. My two guests ordered Gin and Tonic and both imbibers were very well satisfied... and both were pleased with extra limes. My two guests ordered Buzz's chop salad and both were ok and as expected and my Wedge Salad was crispy and fresh. Time out... it is a PR tradition to always bring out to the table a warm basket of breads and rolls. Never happened... and we didn't ask and Bradley didn't t offer. If this is a COVID policy, we should have been so advised. I missed the crunchy buttered breads as an accompaniment to any prior PR dinner. Bradley mentioned that one of the Specials... was 1st time this year... Soft Shell crabs. I love soft shells but also prime rib.., I asked if I could have one soft shell as an appetizer...$18.! My Soft shell was, on a scale of 1-5 with 5 a jumbo... my much anticipated appetizer was at best a 3 in size and lean back fin meat... a crunchy fried shell but not at all substantial for the price. Just for comparison purposes, Tio Pepe's soft shells when available are twice the size. My wife and I both had the signature cut Prime Rib medium rare...no bone and sinfully delicious...and perfectly prepared. The Greenberg potato skins were according to my wife " a signature dish...to die for". I on the other hand ordered a baked potato, knowing that in the past, the PR baked potatoes were large and easily shared. I was shocked that the baked potato on my plate was just of average size and thus quite pricey @ $9. The baked potato was hot and tasty but remarkably small and underwhelming for PR expectations. My other guest raved over her NY strip..and Bradley offered that it's his favorite! No dessert but all three loved our decaf cappuccino. All told, good dinner but no bread, small potato, weak Manhattan, no Pinch, and small sized Soft Shell. We were thrilled that the Prime Rib is able to have in house seating albeit still limited. All waiters were masked and diner tables are extremely well spaced. We felt very safe and sated. I expect as business bounces back post Covid, Prime Rib will reinstitute the bread basket, bigger baked potatoes and larger soft shells. read more

I've always had good experience everytime I came here. In my opinion, this location's a lot better than the one in DC; It's more consistent (and cheaper!). Signature Cut Prime Rib ($41) - The meat, flavor, everything's just excellent.The cut has a little bit of fat, which's great for extra aroma & flavor. They serve horse radish roots (instead of the typical sauce), which compliment the prime rib very nicely. Roasted Tomato Soup ($9) - A bit on the peppery than your usual, however, it's great. Mashed Potatoes ($8) - Delicious. It got a little bit of chunks of potato there, which's a plus for me. Creamy Spinach ($9) - Not bad. I could skip this one next time though. Service = Amazing. The servers definitely know what they're doing. They're extremely nice, polite, professional & knowledgeable. The one I got was cracking up jokes all night lol. Even though I asked for a table on the porch, I guess I was not clear. We were seated on a banquette, which was so uncomfortable as I sat on the seam! Edward, our server, was pleasant enough, but failed at making sure our needs were met. I told him that I was a big water consumer. I had to ask for water four (4) times. He even said at one point that they did not have enough pitchers, or he would just leave one on the table. Hmmm. We were there to enjoy the Restaurant Week menu. The restaurant was packed and very noisy. We enjoyed the company of our friends. Our salads were fine. Our friend ordered the Imperial Crab and declared it delicious. Three of us ordered the Prime Rib, which was tough. We all were very disappointed in the beef, especially since this is their specialty. The desserts, as always, were delicious and fresh. Any self-respecting carnivore must visit this Baltimore institution at least once; restaurant week afforded me (literally) the perfect opportunity to visit after many years of yearning. Being that this is one of the most expensive restaurants in the area, it should come as no surprise that scoring a reservation during restaurant week is akin to winning the lottery. Due to the popularity we had to settle for a Sunday reservation at 8:30, but you won't hear me complaining. We arrived 15 minutes late but were graciously received by the host who promptly showed us to our table. Had it not been for the complimentary valet we would have arrived much later trying to find a parking spot. My first impression of the restaurant was elegance and sophistication. The Prime Rib definitely attracts an older crowd, but my party (all of us in our 30s) did not feel out of place. The complimentary bread was delivered promptly, followed by the salad course. The bread was amazing, the seasoning was reminiscent of an everything bagel; and the house salad was one of the best I've had. The restaurant week website did not indicate that ordering the prime rib would be extra; but what's $5 when, in reality, you are saving so much more? We were told that adding the imperial crab is an option for an additional $5- sold! The wait time for the entree was only about 20 minutes although, due to my eagerness, felt like much longer. The meal did not disappoint. Although the creamed spinach left much to be desired, the prime rib was cooked to perfection and the mashed potatoes were creamy. The cabernet that our waiter,Travis, recommended went perfectly with the meal and it was one of the best wines I've had. Usually I don't have room for dessert but I made an attempt with the chocolate mousse pie and I'm so glad I did. It was very light and decadent- perfect after such a heavy meal. My only regret was not ordering a cup of coffee to go with it. There were some areas that could be improved. First, the bathrooms could have been a lot cleaner. Also, the restaurant felt incredibly cramped. One of the chairs at our table was literally touching the chair at the next table which made things a little awkward. Because we were so close together we felt pressure to be mindful of our voice level. However, I really liked that the restaurant was not loud and it made it easy to have a conversation. And although there were some missteps with the service (a forgotten drink that we were later comped for, and a cup of coffee ordered at the beginning that we did not receive but decided to not make a fuss over); our waiter, Travis, did an exceptional job making everything as seamless as possible. He played as an integral role in the experience as the food and I made mission of seeking him out before leaving to, again, extend my gratitude for such exceptional service. read more

Huge fall from grace. Used to go here on all birthday occasions and was blown away by the quality of the steaks and overall how amazing the food was. Past tense is the key here. Went last night and outside of the Greenberg's potatoes the rest of the meal was incredibly poor. I hadn't been here in at least 30 years, and my spouse never had, so I surprised him for his birthday, and boy, and I'm glad I did. Everything was perfect!! From the welcoming greeting when we arrived, to our choice of a seat in the dining room with soft live piano jazz. Jimbo was our server, and he was fabulous--amusing, attentive, with great menu suggestions, making us feel as though we were very special guests. And the food!!! Jimbo recommended the oysters (on the halfshell), which may have been the best we've ever had (and we've had plenty). We moved right on to the main event--an amazing filet, cooked impeccably (of course), and I had a crab cake, which was excellent. The sides of asparagus, and spinach sauteed with shallots and garlic were generous and delicious. Drinks were spot on, and then the surprise birthday dessert was a very nice touch. Didn't have enough room for my dessert, so we ordered key lime pie to go. It too was excellent. Definitely throwback decor, but we found it really comfortable. The noise level allowed us to have a conversation, but also enjoy the music. When we decided to leave, Jimbo was magically there with the check, which was taken care of promptly. We casually checked the time when we left, and were amazed that the 2 hours had been so perfectly timed we had no idea how long we'd been there. OMG what a beautiful place. The ambiance is really nice. There is live music. Tonight we were serenaded by piano. A little tight to maneuver. We made reservations during restaurant week and so glad we did. We were seated right away and was immediately taken cared of. I ordered the Caribbean Punch, which was very good. Our meal included a starter, a choice of an entreee, and dessert. I jad the Caesar salad and my husband had the Roasted Tomato Soup. For our entrees, my husband had the filet mignon and for $5 extra the Prime Rib both cooked medium rare. For dessert, he had Key Lime Pie and I had the Creme Brulee along with double shot of espresso and a cup of coffee. Everything was cooked beautifully. The sour note: the side garnish of horseradish could be left off the plate, too spicy, bitter and disgusting. Bathroom could use some dusting as well as the booths. This place doesn't do justice to the DC Prime Rib, one of my all time favs. I really don't want to give any stars but we went during Restaurant Week so maybe they were not on their A-game. However, the decor here matches the level of service- stuck in the 60s. My party of beautiful, professional, educated women were treated like they wanted us to go wash dishes in the kitchen. It was terrible. The table next to us of elderly people who must be regulars requested to move because we apparently were having a good time talking and laughing. Certainly not allowed in a restaurant ever! After that, it went downhill. The food was pretty good but not necessarily better than other chain steakhouses. Just wasn't impressed like I was at their DC location. Waiter acted like it was a chore to serve us and busboys were inconsistent. We asked for seperate checks, but were given a group check. Gratuity was not included. Apparently, the waiter didn't think we would tip him well so he took some of the cash given for the split check. He actually accused us of not giving enough. I told him to just charge my card the remainder of what we owed. Didn't do that because he wanted the cash. Manager was requested and did nothing. Amazingly, said money may have fallen under the table! It was the most ridiculous thing I had ever experienced at ANY restaurant. After that, we sat there for an hour being completely ignored. Another Restaurant Week selection! Dinner was packed with people and we were led through the crowded dining room to a two-top against a wall, on the other side of the busser's station. It was a tight spot and workers kept coming out from behind me all night. My husband got the tomato soup as appetizer, prime rib entree, and key lime pie for dessert. I got the Caesar salad, petit filet mignon, and chocolate mousse pie. The soup was, actually, very flavorful whereas the salad was kinda pedestrian. We both thought the filet mignon was the better entree selection, although it was pretty dinky. The prime rib was a nice portion. Dessert favorite was the key lime pie. It was nicely tart! Went here with the wife for our first anniversary dinner. (Full disclosure: if it weren't for my mom's lovely anniversary present of a gift card to this place, we never would have set foot inside. If the word "budget" is part of your daily vocabulary in regards to your personal income, this place is a little out of reach.) Yes, the prime rib was like something out of a burgeoning chef's fever dream. Yes, the ambiance was a vintage-lovers paradise and the live, soft piano music added a welcome layer to the romantic atmosphere. But the real reason I loved The Prime Rib and am willing to save pennies all year so we can go again wasn't just the food or the air of grandeur. It was our waiter, Travis. All of the servers and waiters here seem to be exceptional people, we were lucky enough to get Travis. He made what was a very imposing meal into a relaxed, enjoyable experience without even breaking a sweat. For example, when he learned it was our anniversary, his congratulations was heartfelt. When he noticed that my wife was only ordering a salad and vegetarian sides, he got the kitchen to make her a veggie-friendly side dish platter to count as one meal, including a beautiful cheese-stuffed broiled tomato that wasn't on the menu (as I recall). He was kind, patient, and checked up on us just as much as the table next to us with 6 people at it. He even brought us a free dessert at the end of the meal, which might be company policy, but the warm congratulatory smile certainly wasn't. He gave the kind of service I wish I could receive everywhere, but I know is a selfish and unrealistic wish. The potato skins are outstanding and the prime rib was wonderful. The fresh horseradish was definitely a star with the prime rib. 4.5 stars. I'd say The Prime Rib's restaurant week menu is probably the most generous and satisfying out of all the other restaurants that partake in the week-long food craze. If you take a look at its regular menu, you'll know that the restaurant week dinner price is a steal. Dining here with the fiancee means I get to try two of each course. Not bad, eh? The roasted tomato soup was not your normal tomato soup. It definitely had a positive kick to it and was quite enjoyable. The caesar salad was as expected and didn't disappoint. The complimentary bread was also quite appetizing. The filet mignon was decent. Considering this cut of meat, I was impressed with its relatively sizable portion. However, taste-wise, I'd say it's average. Not as tender as I'd anticipated. The special prime rib (add $4), however, was delicious, tender, and juicy. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it was big enough for me to bag 1/4 of it and bring it home. The sides were also great, especially the creamed spinach. Dessert kicked butt. We had the key lime pie and the chocolate mousse. Both were incredibly amazing. The chocolate mousse especially hit the spot. Our server was amiable, but was probably overworked that day. Even on a weekday, restaurant week made The Prime Rib extremely busy. So, understandably, service was slower than expected. One final tip: Don't be under-dressed. read more

The wife always orders a filet wherever we go. I usually mix it up, so I ordered and ate the best prime rib I have ever had. Made to absolute perfection. I got to check out The Prime Rib during Restaurant Week and I am so glad I did. It was recommended by a bunch of different people and I felt out of the loop for not having been there already. When I arrived I loved how everything was laid out and the bar right near the entrance really set the mood and gave the place a classic vibe/feel. We were seated in the back of the restaurant near a few larger tables and honestly that was pretty ideal as it wasn't too noisy and easy to carry on a conversation. Went with the Restaurant week menu so got to choose each different course. Went with the Caesar Salad, Filet Mignon topped w/ Crab Stuffing, and Key Lime Pie. Which were all absolutely amazing and would definitely recommend. There were also sharing sizes of spinach and mashed potatoes on the table which were also great. The Filet Mignon was extremely flavorful and I had it prepared medium-rare which was great for how I like it. Would definitely recommend anyone there add the crab on top of it because it gave it that noticeable and unique flavor and texture that really made things memorable. Mother's Day Dinner. Prompt and helpful waitstaff. I observed our waiter at some points observing us (and his other tables) from an obscure corner to see if we would be in need of anything so most times, if we needed something our waiter was already on it before we even asked. And he never did it in a "rushing" manner. Now that's 5 star service. Food was good too...3 people got a filet mignon that was cooked to each of our preferences. My dad enjoyed his prime ribeye at the waiter's suggestion. He even had my dad to cut into the steak to make sure it was cooked to his specification. It was. Honestly one of the best lobster bisques we've had. The lobster meat in it was even cooked to perfection. The veggies were done well. Portions good - I was stuffed, could not finish everything. Surprisingly expansive dessert menu. The hot fudge sundae (with A SIDE OF HOT FUDGE), as big as it was, got finished. So the food was flawless, the waitstaff was superb, the restaurant itself is cozy and upscale, complete with a piano player playing classical numbers. A few coworkers and I decided to visit during their 50th anniversary promotion. I highly recommend coming for the promo, which is running through 10/31. 3 course prix fixe meal for $50, which includes a side. Appetizers: We ordered these which aren't included in the promo, but were not disappointed. Oysters Rockefeller and Shrimp Cocktail were both great. Shrimp were huge! If anything, the oysters rockefeller were a little bland. Salads as part of prix fixe: House salad or Ceasar. Both were great. House salad included cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, chopped egg. Not overly dressed. Entrees as part of prix fixe: I of course ordered the prime rib. Can't go wrong. I may never order anything else here than this. Which is a shame because the salmon filet and crab cakes that my friends ordered looked very good too. Minor point: the crab cake is cooked very lightly. Outside is browned, but the inside is barely cooked. Not an issue for me if I had it, as it looked to be all lump crab meat with just a minimum of binding, but my friend wished she ordered it to be cooked longer. Sides as part of prix fixe: Broccoli Rabe was the hit. Mashed potatoes were very creamy and smooth. Baked potato was the size of a small baby (ok, maybe not that big, but it was damn big). Loved the creamed spinach as well. Dessert as part of prix fixe: Creme brulee and key lime pie. Beware of the key lime pie. It is very tart. I knew this and I love it. But I can see how someone can think it's very overpowering. Creme brulee had no complaints. Me personally, I'm all creme-bruleed out, as everyone restaurants has it now, and most are plain/bland/boring. Additional notes: Two friends had moscatos and both loved them. I had a very well made gin and tonic. Two orders of chocolate martini were sent back because it was all alcohol -- too overwhelming to enjoy. My cappuccino was good. We pigged out as you can see. My boyfriend and I came here mistakingly thinking restaurant week applied for the whole week. It doesn't so make sure you check before coming. It's only for the weekend. But our dinner and service was amazing regardless. We started with the caviar which was quite expensive which would have been fine but i wasn't amazed by it. However that may just be because I'm not a huge caviar person. It was my first time trying it. But the prime rib and rack of lamb where both amazing. I haven't had lamb that good ever. It was incredible juicy and well flavored. My boyfriend loved his prime rib as well. The sides we ordered were underwhelming. It seemed to just be cooked with a slight dash of salt. The Prime Rib is a staple in Baltimore fine dining. Perhaps one of the "oldest school" restaurants around, it maintains a very traditional yet swanky feel with oldtime service and a feeling of yesteryear. The Prime Rib is an absolute classic steak house that will leave you satisfied and feeling special for it. The signature prime rib with fresh julienned horseradish is a sure winner, but they also do a very nice job with other cuts. We just did a private event there, so I was able to sample beyond the usual prime rib order, and the pork chop, crabcakes, and NY strip all delivered. Absolute must side dishes and appetizers include the heart of palm salad, grilled artichoke hearts, potato skins, and creamed spinach. Went there for restaurant week. Nice atmosphere, although the tables are too close to one another (probably due to restaurant week). Server was great and the tomato soup appetizer was great. Fillet mignon entree was good but I am disappointed with the presentation, it looks messy and I am expecting a little more from such a fancy restaurant. Creme brûlée was tasty. the atmosphere and food in this place is PHENOMENAL. I had Filet Mignon cooked perfectly. They do NOT mess around with their steak, and it's wonderful. Took girlfriend out for her birthday here. We did an early dinner cause we had plans later in the evening and we were one of the only ones in the restaurant. Started off great then an older couple was seated next to us. They decided to sit next to each other instead of across from each other. The entire time they were kissing and grouping each other and at one point decided to interact with us by showing us a sexually implicit photograph on their phone. Not a prude but its hard to enjoy a steak with slurping noises coming from the booth next to you. Just a miserable dinning experience and couldn't wait to get out of there. We don't get the chance to do nice outings like this often and it was a total disappointment. The waiter appeared to try and break them up once or twice by asking them questions. I wish he had done more even though I'd imagine that is difficult as a waiter to handle. From a food perspective. We both enjoyed our steaks. We got 3 sides - mashed potatoes, green beans, and asparagus. The potatoes and the green beans were good; the asparagus lacked flavor. read more

I came here with my Babe here last night and had an awesome dinner. I have been to the DC location but never the Baltimore one. We arrived at 7 at got a great table in the main dining room. Like the DC location, this one is very romantic, beautiful and masculine! You can smell the sex, power and testosterone as you walk in. After ordering our Whiskies, we took a look at the menu decided to order the Lobster Bisque, Prime Rib, NY Strip and. sides of their famous Potatoes Skins, Creamed Spinach and Mashed Potatoes. The Bisque, Meat and side dishes were amazing! Everything was perfect. For desert, we tried their Apple Pie and Cheesecake....super yummy. I definitely felt out of place as my boyfriend and I first walked in. As we were waiting to be seated, I couldn't help but notice the many returning customers being greeted with hugs and kisses by the hosts/servers. Other than the lack of space and somewhat uncomfortable dining area, they had excellent service, hilarious waitor, bottomless cup of water, perfectly cooked medium-rare filet mignon (order this!!), big slab of prime rib meat for the man...what else could I ask for? My bf decided to go caveman style and picked up the prime rib to get every last piece of meat off the bone. Not embarassing at all....heh...but the waitor caught him and congratulated him on being the only person to finish the whole dish that night. Win!
