My daughter asked me to pick up my granddaughter for a dentist appt. (legit) which I have done before. This time we (20-25 parents) had to wait outside behind gate (looks prison like-one of the changes) I'm looking around and a parent tells me to go find this lady who'll take my ID and child's name. I do, but very unorganized. I wait 20 minutes and another lady comes out and calls out names on ID to return (no kids). I say "are you the principal?" She says "yes", I say "you need a faculty meeting to figure out a better way to do this." Maybe she was having a bad day but she went off in a huff! What? She can't take suggestions? Her faculty can't help with this procedure? Everyone only gets one chance for a 1st impression and the procedure to check out students this day......needs improvement!

I have trails of emails over the last 2 years that shows they either ignore emails or after finally responding after 3-4 days they only answer half the questions. It's bad when you have to include the principal, which she passes to the assistant (which this person was a BIG help last year). Have things changed that much with this generation of teaching staff that it's only about the pay check rather than the pride in assisting the students as they are the future. My daughter can technically graduate a year early but wants to stay and graduate with her original classmates and continue to work towards taking classes towards her AA degree. I won't put the names out there of the staff and teachers who have dropped the ball more than several times, but Atlantic Coast needs to get it together as a whole. I am sure some students/parents do not have a hard time, I need to know what they are doing to not have any issues and get things done right away or within a reasonable time. They also have three fun social events a month: a dance party, a non-dance activity (e.g. karaoke, indoor rock climbing, or go-karts), and Rueda in the Park (a group dance in Memorial Park). The Director, Ally, has created a warm, friendly atmosphere. I remember once, in my early days at the studio, going out the door after a group lesson when I heard her shout "no one leaves without a hug." I turned around, went back in, and got my hug. Dance Salsa Jax is a nonprofit that rents space at two studios. They teach the most common Latin dances, Salsa (Sunday afternoons in Avondale) and Bachata (Wednesday evenings on Old St. Augustine Rd.). Ally also offers reasonably-priced private lessons. I'm glad I found this place, my home dance studio.
