My first visit to the Punch House was just before Christmas. It was warm, had a great ambience and the staff were friendly. A good selection of beers was available, including some I'd never tried before, and myself and my two companions ordered some food. All three of us were really pleased with the food when it came. It was a great price, hot and very tasty. My friend said that it was the best fish and chips he'd had in ages, and the size of the portion was vast. Great value. I had the Hunters Chicken which was really delicious too. Not sure why I'd not been there before really. My only criticism is that it appeared to have a lot of people who were probably regulars, but I didn't feel too unwelcome, just that slightly unnerving feeling when you first walk in and the dog playing the piano in the corner stops and you feel like you're being watched! It only lasted a second though almost that once they saw that you'd not ordered a Babycham you were OK by them! read more
