The reviews for Twisted Oak Bar and Bistro were accurate! This classy joint in downtown Statesville has the perfect menu with solid options for any diner. The staff works their tails off to get the orders in and out to the tables soonest but quality is not sacrificed for time. Out waitresses was very patient with us and answered our questions with details. Both the protein bowl and the steak sandwich were absolutely amazing and came at very reasonable price points. We will return here again!

Unfortunately, I wish I could rate 5 stars but this place is definitely not worth it. I was told by several friends that it was a good spot with great food but I have to say otherwise. The service was super slow but mind you they only had one waitress working the entire spot which is only like 7 tables. I believe they share a kitchen with one or two other restaurants since it's one owner that owns Twisted Oak and the old Smokin Southern Cantina on Center St. The restaurant is super small with only about 5 four seater tables, 1 large eight seater and a bar with room for maybe 6. As for the food I'll start with our appetizer, the Seafood Dip, oh my was I disappointed. I thought the black stuff on top of it was some sort of decorative garnish, however, it was just burnt crusting of the cheese or seasoning. The shrimp po boy..... boy oh boy dry dry dry and nothing but bread. It's supposed to be served with a dressing but they didn't put any on it. So if you like crusty, dry French bread be my guest. Now on to the crawfish étouffée. It's served with a garden salad on top of the étouffée I'm not exactly sure why. The crawfish themselves are pretty small and definitely frozen, cooked, refrozen and cooked I don't know how many times. And you can definitely tell my the overwhelming fishy taste. The rice was over cooked to where it was just a mushy mess. I'd say the only thing good here was the cheese bread that came with the étouffée it actually tasted good and homemade. With all that said, we will never be back. I was disappointed because I really had high hopes for this place, only to realize it's not good and stupid expensive. Oh and very dirty air vents that haven't been cleaned in who knows how long

First time coming here and it was AMAZING! we came on a wednesday night, sat at the bar and ordered basic mixed drinks. (they had a good drink menu but we are basic people when it comes to that lol). For appetizer, we ordered the seafood dip which was PHENOMENAL! the bread it came with was soft and delicious, the dip had a little crusty layer to the top. for our main courses, i ordered the blackened snapper and it came with a lemon and caper sauce that was sooo tasty. my boyfriend ordered the shrimp and grits and he said it was the best he's had!! we also ordered a side of these spicy chili and it came with a lime sauce on top, to DIE for!! the atmosphere was definitely a French underground vibe. very ambient, very calm and peaceful!! overall we had an amazing dining experience and will for sure be coming back :)

This hidden gem just oozes speakeasy vibes. Being a Louisiana native, my expectations outside of Nola are low. Our group of five ate out on the patio. Our server, Sylvia, was wonderful- attentive, friendly, helpful and pleasant. We started with appetizers - the bayou cakes, bread and cornbread. The french bread is just like home. And i havent had cornbread like that since my mama's house. The bayou cakes were well liked by everyone at the table. The shrimp and grits was my choice and it did not disappoint. Tasty well prepared shrimp was well seasoned with a delicious trinity gravy and cheddar grits. The poboys were excellent and made on the wonderful fluffy Nola french bread. My daughter had the steak verdant and my other daughter had the catfish. We had a wonderful chocolate cake and creme brulee cheesecake for dessert! Highly recommend this hidden gem.

Surprised and happy to come across this New Orleans restaurant in Statesville! I came for lunch and enjoyed gumbo with warm French bread. Clean and artful atmosphere with enjoyable jazz music playing in the background. I had limited time for lunch - not a problem. Service was prompt

Bloody Mary

We had to come try out the new place! I started off with a Bloody Mary that was actually one of the better ones I've had in Statesville. Hubby got a can of Sweet Josie which is ALWAYS good! He ordered the catfish plate which he says is delicious! Y'all. I ordered the muffuletta po boy. It was FAAABULOUS! I've been looking for a place that serves these sandwiches forever. Having to go all the way to Huntersville just does not do it for me. I am so happy they have it here -and even a muffuletta charcuterie! It's a very tiny place so if you're bringing a lot of people you might want to see if you can reserve the space. We will definitely be back! Oh, and the waitresses are fantastic! So nice and attentive!

The food was really good. And the service was excellent. The restaurant is very clean and the atmosphere has the New Orleans vibe. Small quaint spot below the twisted oak. Serves lots of Louisiana inspired dishes. Give it a shot.

We found this restaurant the first day and went back each time. Every single meal was excellent. 1) The Monte Christo Benedict was unique and I would travel just to have that again. 2) The biscuits are the best I've found in ages. I love biscuits and try them everywhere I can and these are delicious! I always get some to take home. 3) The pancakes were delicious and you can ask them to bake the blueberries into them - yum! 4) The Hungry Man's Platter was perfect and filling. 5) The Greek omelet and Chicken Gyro were delicious. 6) And the cakes... so amazing. You see them first, up front in the cooler. We were told they are hand made and we can guarantee they are so good. We took two slices home as the chocolate ones are quite rich so we have one slice to enjoy for several meals. I have not had a better cake, and we'd be willing to drive 50 miles to get this cake if we needed cake for something. 7) The wait staff were all wonderful. Brooke in particular was so enjoyable and helpful. But everyone who served us was really nice. 8) The prices are all quite reasonable. And they have daily specials with even better prices. 9) The only thing to take note of is the menu on Google, or their old website, is not current. The current menu is much more comprehensive (also has Mexican, Greek, and Italian meals). I think I found the current menu, which I've attached. Not sure if this is the full new menu, but most of it is there.

The egg drop soup was of the style i appreciate, I got the chicken chow mein, it was great. Good ratios of meat and noodles and veggies, cooked perfect and full of good flavor. My wife got the General Tso's, it was above average for that dish. I had some on the third leftovers. My oldest got a bento box, and it was larger than they expected as well. My assumption is the locals know something we didn't. I'll start with the positives, because there are a few. Our waitress was great, and the food we actually received was good. There were four of us. Two ordered steaks with baked potatoes, salad, and fries. My wife got the coconut shrimp, and I went with the jambalaya. What showed up tasted fine. What didn't show up told a very different story about how the kitchen is being run. One steak arrived with their baked potato but no fries and the other arrived as just a steak on a plate without a baked potato because they "ran out." The reason the first one didn't have fries was because they had "just dropped them in the fryer." I'm still not entirely sure how either of those things happens in a restaurant, but here we are. This might've been easier to shrug off if we hadn't waited nearly an hour in an almost completely empty restaurant. But after that wait, being told we'd need another 20 minutes for the missing sides was where patience officially left the building. No discount. No comp. Just vibes. The presumed manager never checked on us. Not once. She did make a brief appearance at the very end, dropping off the fries as we were literally walking out, saying "Here you go," and disappearing again. At the same time, another table held our waitress hostage for a solid five minutes, venting about how far downhill this place has gone. The manager was nearby made zero effort to step in or support her. So, over $100 later, we left with missing sides, slow service, and the distinct feeling that no one in charge was actually in charge. Safe to say it'll be another ten years before I step foot in a Red Lobster again. And if they're all being run like this one, they might not even make it that long.

They used to be crab stuffed mushrooms now they are "seafood" stuffed and if you want crab you have to pay $5.00 more? Then came our New England clam chowder. Again it used to be a cup or bowl now it was a teacup half full. Ridiculous! My husband got the shrimp skewers which were ice cold, they forgot his scampi and had to go back for that. I had the crab carbonara which was literally swimming in greasy butter, and could barely see any of the sauce that was supposed to be on it. I had heard that red lobster went downhill, and that certainly seems to be true!
