I was excited to try The Quarter because I love New Orleans style food. We ate here for lunch and it was not too busy. We sat ourselves and the waitress took orders and was making drinks. I started with the hurricane which was really good. We shared the raw oysters which were cold and well shucked. The cocktail sauce was great and the hot sauce she brought out was delicious. For my meal I had the crawfish etouffee with rice and bread. The gravy was rich and delicious with a ton of crawfish. The bread was delightful and brought in from New Orleans. Me and some of my coworkers went there recently and we loved it!! I tried the chicken and waffle sandwich, it was delicious . The chicken was seasoned just right and the waffles were fluffy along with the slightly spicy syrup. Their customer service is excellent. The feature Louisiana dishes. The reviews for Twisted Oak Bar and Bistro were accurate! This classy joint in downtown Statesville has the perfect menu with solid options for any diner. The staff works their tails off to get the orders in and out to the tables soonest but quality is not sacrificed for time. Out waitresses was very patient with us and answered our questions with details. Both the protein bowl and the steak sandwich were absolutely amazing and came at very reasonable price points. Unfortunately, I wish I could rate 5 stars but this place is definitely not worth it. I was told by several friends that it was a good spot with great food but I have to say otherwise. The service was super slow but mind you they only had one waitress working the entire spot which is only like 7 tables. I believe they share a kitchen with one or two other restaurants since it's one owner that owns Twisted Oak and the old Smokin Southern Cantina on Center St. The restaurant is super small with only about 5 four seater tables, 1 large eight seater and a bar with room for maybe 6. As for the food I'll start with our appetizer, the Seafood Dip, oh my was I disappointed. I thought the black stuff on top of it was some sort of decorative garnish, however, it was just burnt crusting of the cheese or seasoning. The shrimp po boy..... boy oh boy dry dry dry and nothing but bread. It's supposed to be served with a dressing but they didn't put any on it. So if you like crusty, dry French bread be my guest. Now on to the crawfish étouffée. It's served with a garden salad on top of the étouffée I'm not exactly sure why. The crawfish themselves are pretty small and definitely frozen, cooked, refrozen and cooked I don't know how many times. And you can definitely tell my the overwhelming fishy taste. The rice was over cooked to where it was just a mushy mess. I'd say the only thing good here was the cheese bread that came with the étouffée it actually tasted good and homemade. With all that said, we will never be back. I was disappointed because I really had high hopes for this place, only to realize it's not good and stupid expensive. First time coming here and it was AMAZING! we came on a wednesday night, sat at the bar and ordered basic mixed drinks. (they had a good drink menu but we are basic people when it comes to that lol). For appetizer, we ordered the seafood dip which was PHENOMENAL! the bread it came with was soft and delicious, the dip had a little crusty layer to the top. for our main courses, i ordered the blackened snapper and it came with a lemon and caper sauce that was sooo tasty. my boyfriend ordered the shrimp and grits and he said it was the best he's had!! we also ordered a side of these spicy chili and it came with a lime sauce on top, to DIE for!! the atmosphere was definitely a French underground vibe. very ambient, very calm and peaceful!! overall we had an amazing dining experience and will for sure be coming back :) read more

This hidden gem just oozes speakeasy vibes. Being a Louisiana native, my expectations outside of Nola are low. Our group of five ate out on the patio. Our server, Sylvia, was wonderful- attentive, friendly, helpful and pleasant. We started with appetizers - the bayou cakes, bread and cornbread. The french bread is just like home. And i havent had cornbread like that since my mama's house. The bayou cakes were well liked by everyone at the table. The shrimp and grits was my choice and it did not disappoint. Tasty well prepared shrimp was well seasoned with a delicious trinity gravy and cheddar grits. The poboys were excellent and made on the wonderful fluffy Nola french bread. My daughter had the steak verdant and my other daughter had the catfish. We had a wonderful chocolate cake and creme brulee cheesecake for dessert! Highly recommend this hidden gem. read more

Now if you dont have children when eating here you can skip this, but if you do stay. The restaurant is not open till 10:00pm for all, only for adults i tried to go there with someone under 18 and got rejected service. This is not stated on their yelp page and thus is not easy to plan around unless you've gone there before. The food is fantastic. Everything I have tried there has been delicious. Prices for food is great, especially for the quality of the food. Do NOT go there for drinks. $19.50 for a double Jameson on the rocks is an absurd price for a restaurant in Statesville. The bartender, I didn't catch her name, told me that she did me a favor by only charging me $19.50. It's $8.50 at Applebee's, $32 for a fifth at the liquor store, $23 at LAX, no excuse for $19.50 at a small restaurant in downtown Statesville. Disappointing that I can't justify my return due to the overcharging for whiskey because I love the food. Great service makes up for bad food and great food can make up for bad service but this place had EXCELLENT FOOD AND SERVICE. We have been twice. First time we ordered gumbo, shrimp and grits and chicken and waffles with beignets for dessert. Sooooooo good. Second time we got shrimp and grits, the Bayou bird PoBoy, the Au Poivre PoBoy and the fries either the beef shreds and curds on top. Again, sooooo good. I have been telling everyone they should try this place if they ever go to Ststesville. We had to come try out the new place! I started off with a Bloody Mary that was actually one of the better ones I've had in Statesville. Hubby got a can of Sweet Josie which is ALWAYS good! He ordered the catfish plate which he says is delicious! Y'all. I ordered the muffuletta po boy. It was FAAABULOUS! I've been looking for a place that serves these sandwiches forever. This out of the way restaurant is absolutely outstanding! The interior is visually stunning and very comfortable. The service was very friendly, informed, and attentive. Their chef's choice soup was a lobster bisque with sherry, and was delicious. The Stonefired oysters topped with herbed butter, aged Parmesan, and French bread crumbs were exceptional. The beignets for dessert were the best this side of New Orleans. My only issue, and this is minor but avoidable, was that the menu says that the oysters were served with lemon cheeks and crostini, and they were served with lemon cheeks and saltines as shown in pictures published by others. Added note: I returned the next evening with four colleagues from a nearby conference, after having raved about this restaurant. 4 out of 4 of them agreed it was spectacular. First - the ambiance. It's is small and cozy buts decor is so classy it makes you feel right at home. Second- the food was incredible in every detail. Hubs got shrimp and grits and said it was the best he'd had in a long time. I got the shrimp po boy and the shrimp were fat and flavorful served on the crusty French bread I haven't been able to find since I left New Orleans. The beignets were a nice touch of home as well. The customer service ruined the experience. We had no knowledge of this restaurant and were thrilled with discovering it. We placed a drink order and food orders. After the drinks and food were delivered the waitress never returned to the table. We had to ask another waitress for assistance twice. I asked for a second drink and it never came. When our dissatisfaction was made apparent to our waitress she returned and said she was sorry because she got busy at the bar. We were her only table, and there were two couples at the bar. This was soon after they opened, so we were actually the first table to arrive and got no service. I'd love for this to be a go-to but unfortunately I hesitate to waste anymore money on a lack of service. I found the food un-notable in contrast to the service. read more

Visited The Quarter for the first time this Saturday. We arrived just a few minutes after 11:00am for an early lunch. There was no greeter, just grab a table wherever you like. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting. The decor is vibrant and interesting in the dining and bar area. The bathroom artwork is whimsical and unique. The patio area seems like the perfect spot to sip a cocktail and catch up with old friends. The menu has a little something for everyone. We started off with a generously sixed appetizer of fried okra. Perfection! The sauce they included with it was delicious. If you go early, like we did, you won't be able to order anything with grits. They aren't quite ready yet. I wanted the shrimp and grits but settled on the fried catfish instead. Next visit I will be trying the sea bass. Someone else in our party ordered it and it looked amazing. "Best thing he's eaten in a long time" was his review of the dish. Another in our party had the chicken and waffle sandwich with spicy maple syrup. Not a crumb left on the plate. The portions are ample. I had to take half of mine to go. The price was a little on the higher end but worth it for a special treat. We were there for a birthday lunch. Roughly $76 for three people. Saturday night husband and I decided to go out for dinner. I remembered this restaurant and so we decided to try it. We eat alittle later than most, but it was around 8pm when we arrived. With The Quarter not closing till 11, didn't think it would be a problem. When we got there, there was only one other table with other customers. We decided to sit at the bar. The bartender was friendly and answered our questions about the menu, but it was obvious she was getting ready for closing. Husband ordered the gumbo appetizer and I had to try a bite. It was really good. So for my meal, I decided to get the gumbo along with a couple of sides. He ordered the red beans and rice as his meal. A few minutes later Mac came out of the kitchen and very apologetic that they were running low on the red beans and rice and that he didn't want to serve this dish that wasn't a good quality. (With the restaurant being closed Sunday and Monday, and it late on Saturday the chef said the sausage was dried out and he didn't want to serve it). Mac offered various dishes to my husband and he ended up with the steak. Mac also was very gracious with our final tab due to my husband not being able to get what he ordered. I also changed my order from the gumbo to fried oysters. I was still brought the gumbo (at no charge) but it wasn't the same as what my husband got, it was mostly rice. When Mac found out, he was quick in offering me another bowl. I had already eaten the oysters and fried okra, so didn't want anything else. So, Mac sent us home with a container of the gumbo. We had to wait a few minutes to order desert, due to the bartender cleaning up the area. We got the beignets. They were good, but not like the ones we have had in New Orleans. The sauce with the beignets was really good. We were never asked if we wanted a drink even though we were sitting at the bar. Over all, it was a good experience. Mac was amazing in trying to make up for the fact some of the food was not available. My husband did not have one complaint about the steak. I enjoyed the oysters and the okra. Will be going back but will definitely not be going late on a Saturday. I do appreciate the fact that Mac was honest about the food and didn't want to serve anything that we would not be happy with. It's hard to find that good quality in a person in this day. That is the main reason we will be going back....MAC! read more
