If you don't like fighting a crowd, I recommend showing up to the waterfront bars in Marseille on a Wednesday night in October! :) Fall is an "off-season" in Marseille, so the entire patio of tables (probably 150 seats) was basically empty, excepting our group. Staff is friendly and generally pretty quick (again, perhaps due to non-existent crowds). There's a full bar drink selection, including my most recent great discovery: peach syrup mixed with light beer (don't knock it until you have tried it). Huge plus in that they take credit cards (not a given in Marseille), but pretty big minus in that they generally won't keep a tab. Free olives and sour cream and onion chips located near the door! They're self-serve - grab a bowl (or several) and bring them to your table.

The bartender and the rest of the team was very nice and helpful - something you dont often see in an Irish Pub - no matter where in the world its located. C'est sans doute le pub le plus authentique de Marseille et j'y ai toujours passé un bon moment, que ce soit pour une soirée entre amis, un match de rugby ou une pinte par une calme après-midi d'hiver près de la cheminée. The buildings are authentic style. If you know history of marseille it was heavily bombed during WWII as the nazi's used it as a major supply port. Thee service was so personal explaining the different beers, stouts etc. their Guinness is said to be the best. Don't be shocked at seeing cassock wearing priest enjoying a pint or two. The French are so relaxed. A group of shoulders patrolling the area. We're really nice sorry no pictures battery was low on my phone. I shouldn't have been playing games on it.
