Be warned after purchasing some garlands I found out after I got home that the price on the ticket was not the same on the receipt. After calling into the shop the next day I was informed that they don't have to give me a refund for the difference! I believe I was taking to the Manager but was also informed that she didn't have to give me her name.. so what's the point of being a manager !! After speaking to citizen advice apparently they have not broken the law but most shops would of offered this difference back as a good will gesture.. The reviews from The Range at head office are very poor on this company which is incredible you still have a business. Luckily for me I managed to find the same garland on line at a cheaper price so have returned at another branch with a smile on my face. This shop certainly should not be trading and I certainly won't be spending anymore money at your company. Shame on you read more

Just like Wilkinson's in the town centre, the Range has a huge, well, range of goods, from homewares and pet food to stationary and snacks. Although some of the products on offer are somewhat cheap and nasty, most are of a high standard and sometimes even branded. Pet food is one of the best buys at the Range, with cheap fish, dog, cat and bird food. Plants are also available, but make sure to check them for dead bits or other problems. In all, a really varied store that offers a huge range but is let down by the poor quality of some products. read more

I love this place, it's one of those places that really do seem to sell everything. It doesn't matter what you need they have it - pet accessories, garden centre inc furniture, homeware camping stuff in summer xmas stuff in winter. The stock is always changing andi find the prices are very competative so always look there first. Plenty of parking and easy to get to. read more

If I was to own a store, I would model it on, The Range. They've got just about everything one would need to buy for the home. Also the prices are very reasonable. I sometimes spend ages looking round the store (Colchester), their is so much of interest to look at and oogle over. Even when I'm skint. There are so many unusual things to buy(or window shop), things I haven't seen elsewhere, tools and gadgets. It's like a grown up's toy shop. Quite a few times they have come to my rescue when I've had a job to do and didn't want to spend an arm and leg on a certain tool which I may only ever use once. In fact that happened a couple of months ago when I was laying laminate flooring and I needed a hole saw for the radiator pipes. I looked all over and they were so expensive, Im talking about £30 all in. I went to Range and bought a terrific little set for under a fiver. Even if I only used it the once, I would have got my moneys worth. When you have to rely on benefits to live on, places like the Range is a godsend. Signed A happy customer! read more

Our son started working for THE RANGE in November 2010, as fixed term staff for Christmas. He did so well that he was offered a permanent position, in December 2010. He worked extremely hard, never having any time off sick, and doing any overtime they asked. He was never late. He even managed to get into work, walking, when the buses were not running due to snow. A customer asked to speak to The Manager about him, and commended him on his attitude and politeness. Despite all this, in February 2011, he was working on the cash desk and was asked by a customer to change up some money for him. He did this, but as he was sorting the money out the man started asking him to change up other amounts until he had totally confused him. Our son asked for help from a senior member of staff, who was told by the man that my son had short changed him. The man left, leaving fake contact details. The senior members of staff kept telling my son not to worry, that this could happen to anyone. It was found that £30 was missing from the till. My son immediately offered to reimburse the company the money. They said this wasn't necessary. He was shown the CCTV footage of the incident. There was a good image of the thief, but not of his hands. When our son went into work, 2 days later, he was fired from his job. He was told that The Manager had spotted something else on the CCTV footage, but my son was never shown the new evidence. He was fired on the spot. To the best of our knowledge, the theft was never reported to the Police. You would think that if the evidence was good enough to fire my son, it was good enough to prosecute the thief! Our son was coming to the end of his Work Probation Period, and it was looking very likely that he would be an excellent employee. The Range did not take any of his work ability and conduct into consideration. We were told when he started working for them, that they have a reputation for getting rid of staff as they come to the end of their probation. This proved to be very true!! Our son has written to The Manager and Chris Dawson, asking them to reconsider his dismissal. Although, the Deputy Manager stated that they had lost confidence in him So if you are thinking of working for them....BE CAREFULL AND BE WARNED!! read more
