My wife and I went to the Reef for happy hour the last day of our stay in downtown Boise. Great spot! Our bartender Erick was super friendly, attentive and provided all around great service. We also really liked the Hawaiian theme and decor, as well as the TVs for sports. Although we didn't sit outside due to the chilly weather, there's a cool roof patio with tiki huts, torches, and a great view. We just had appetizers - the edamame and chicken skewers - but we really enjoyed them. Even better was the huge cocktail we shared, "The Scorpion", complete with a flame in the middle of glass. One of my favorite restaurants in downtown Boise for a summer evening. Sat on the rooftop patio and enjoyed drinks and my personal favorite, coconut shrimp. We went here for our friends 21st birthday. We were told that there would be a concert at 9:30, our reservation was at 7:30. They said we could stick around for the show if we wanted for free. When we got there we were seated up high. By 8:30 they turned the lights off and I'm talking dark where we couldn't see our food. This was suppose to be an enjoyable experience and celebration, however we couldn't even hardly see our drinks or food. We then had our server ask if we were all 21, when we responded no they told us we would need to leave by 9:15. Great service, and they're so sweet about it. We found it much easier to make our birthday party reservations at The Reef than at any other locally renowned locales we attempted. Although we asked if we could host around 30 friends, I'd be willing to bet about 50 showed up. It turned into a much larger affair than anyone had planned - and we were grateful they were so willing to accommodate us. Excellent food, and beverage service that can't be beat! Even our gluten-free guests had no trouble finding plenty of options. Our waiter was named Denver. If you're lucky, he'll serve you, too! He's incredibly gracious and patient, and he kept the drinks and food coming as quickly as we could ask for them. He happily split the checks at least 20 ways - and without any hesitation or compliant. I really don't know how he was able to keep it all together. What a pro! (THANK YOU, DENVER!) They accommodated us with 20 people. Most restaurants were going to charge me a hefty room fee or a large minimum order. The reef didn't do either!!! It was for my birthday and they were awesome. Have celebrated bdays here many times, but tonight was bad. Our party of 6 all said every dish was mediocre. They were no busier than a normal Sat night but it took 25 minutes to even order the first drink then ANOTHER 15 minutes before arriving. We got appetizers with no plates, had to ask. It took 25 minutes to get a manager, he agreed to a discount. But 2 of our 6 meals were late or wrong. The Reef restaurant needs Gordon Ramsey to makeover this place. read more

This is hands down the best restaurant in Boise! I eat here a couple times a months at least! They have the most killer Deep Fried Asparagus! I work at a hotel in downtown Boise and this is always my number one recommendation and not a single guest comes back unhappy! Elise is by far my favorite server at The Reef! Having recently moved to Boise, we have been trying out different places for happy hour. Well, I have found our favorite! We were at the Reef last night and it was fantastic! Their happy hour menu was great and our bartender, Rachel, was the best! She made some great beer suggestions for my husband since he wanted to try something different. We ordered the Mondo Pupu platter for an appetizer and it was actually enough for an entire meal! It was absolutely delicious! Others in our party had the pork quesadillas and said they were amazing. To put it lightly restaurant operations for this place are a mess. Not a single menu online is correct. The menus on their supported delivery platforms are also incorrect. I understand it's been a year of glowing pains but at some point you need to correct your mistakes. Multiple times over the last year we have tied to order pick up or delivery and the order is always cancelled because they are out of things or we ordered off the wrong menu (again). Tonight we ordered pickup with Andy (the manager) and he not only placed the order for the wrong items and didn't correct us but when we got there to pick it up half the items were missing, despite us being charged for them. While the bar manager corrected the mistake and was shocked by the wrong menus being everywhere online, it still is beyond frustrating when you have been trying to get dinner from one place for over two hours. The only saving grace for this place anymore is the food is always good. Sucks because it's place used to be our go to place and I don't see us going back anymore. read more

I love this place, especially in the Summer time on the roof top! They have a great happy hour and the food is good. I go mainly for the drinks. I took a star off for the service, sometimes you get outstanding service but not usually. I understand that I go during happy hour and it's busier than normal but I think they should staff up during these times! The servers are super nice either way so I don't mind waiting but some people do that's why I'm adding it into the review! I'm always looking for new happy hour places with good environments and great deals. Just tried this place for the first time and both my friend and I were very impressed. The happy hour deals are unparalleled, featuring 50% off of appys, plus $5/ea mojitos, mules and margos. We each had THREE margos, and the waitress, Nikki, guided us to the Mondo Pupu platter, which gives you a generous sampling of 6 great appetizers. It's normally $21, so at half off it's a real steal! Food was so delicious, particularly the coconut shrimp, which I'm normally not a huge fan of, but didn't even realize it until after we ate it that it had coconut in it. Very subtle. It was like those really good butterflied deep fried shrimp you get at good Chinese restaurants. We also ordered the tempura asparagus, which was also delicious. Not your typical bar food. The rooftop patio ambiance, complete with tiki umbrellas and misters was great as well. Restaurant hit all the marks: Fun atmosphere, good food, great value, friendly, prompt service.
