I had been thinking about this amazing restaurant for 7.5 years before I had the opportunity to…read morereturn, and it was just as delicious, if not more so, as the first time. Fleur's Place is nothing short of awesome. It's off the beaten path in the town of Moeraki, and the last time I was here, I was en route to Dunedin. This time, we stayed nearby, toured Omaru during the day, and then headed to Fleur's Place for dinner. The building itself is very unassuming, but the grounds are beautiful. We were there in April, and there were a ton of flowers blooming, framing a lovely view of the ocean. Inside, all over the walls, there are messages of love written in pen (I'm not kidding), which adds to the vibe of a laid-back, super cool, welcoming kitchen. The food is nothing short of amazing. If you have the ability, get the bacon wrapped cod (it's delightful). We enjoyed a fresh catch of the day - a trio - that was unbelievably fresh. Wine list is impressive. They have cocktails. Dessert was excellent. Do yourself a favor, and come here. Like what many people have said on Yelp, it's a wonderful spot. Fleur is also a fantastic person, and it's obvious that she is respected and loved by her staff. Everyone working there was super kind, very accommodating, and just genuinely good souls. This spot should be at the top of your list for the South Island if you visit.

Recommended as the place to stop-in for fresh seafood while visiting Dunedin, my brother and I were…read moreable to get fish'n'chips for carryout. It was good. We came in during the later afternoon. One of the guides at the cruise terminal had recommended that Bluff oysters were in season, and the best place to get it was a restaurant near the town center: Best Cafe. So we took the shuttle into town from the cruise port (about a 25 minute ride), and immediately searched out the cafe. The inside is airy with a good arrangement of tables. A sign clearly indicated that they were out of oysters (and mussels) for the day, which I have to admit was really disappointing. But the fish fry was recommended as well, so decided to try that. There were open tables, but the constraint was how much fish they could deep fry at one time, so were told a 25 minute wait. They do have a separate door for carryout, so decided to do that instead. We placed and paid for our order, was quoted a time similar to the dine-in wait time (since the fish still had to be cooked). It was ready exactly at the time quoted, and was still piping hot and oily as we ate it walking down the sidewalk while going to the next stop. Blue Cod fillet (NZ$12 for two fillets), elephant fish (NZ$8.50 for one fillet) - Fries cooked in beef tallow (NZ$4.50). All of it was served together, and it was really well fried. The fries were great. The fish was good: the batter was light and really accentuated the large portions of fresh fish used. It was first time eating elephant fish, and it was ok...very firm, not oily at all. The blue cod is really a good fish for fish'n'chips, and is something I would get again for a fish fry. Squid Rings (1/2 dozen for NZ$9) - they were large and definitely fresh. The same batter as the fish was used, and wasn't as successful on the slippery squid, especially for on-the-go. Next time, we will come earlier to try the recommended oysters and different fishes offered and try it dine-in.

Unfortunately, they were out of a lot of their menu items so we were limited in what options there were. However, despite that, the food was still tasty. I can't say this is the best fish and chips I've had, but it was still very solid. Both the sole and blue cod were great, though I did prefer the blue cod more. They also had a fried pineapple which reminded me of a sugared donut outside but pineapple inside which was an interesting try (wouldn't say amazing but unique) Inside look like what you'd expect from a family owned shop. There's nothing special inside, but given how friendly they are I would definitely come here for good food and friendly staff.

I…read moresearched high and low on yelp, tripadvisor, and google and found 3 restaurants with potential. The first was out of business, the second offered a hot stone, so you can cook your own lamb (no thanks, I'm out to eat, please have the trained chef cook my food) and Lone Star. Knowing its Texas influence, I was worried that my vegetarian wife would be left eating salad. Nope, there were four vegetarian "mains" and none were devoid of nutrients (aka pasta and veggies). I chose Lone Star. We were seated quickly by an upbeat host and asked to sit in the corner table, to which he obliged. Our server was friendly and down to earth and we got mushrooms and a salad for a starter and the mushrooms were delish! The salad also hit the spot. For mains, I got the lamb shoulder with mashed taters and asparagus, peas and spinach mixed together. It was aesthetically pleasing and I had the runner load up my potatoes with fresh cracked pepper. My wife's burger was HUGE and the chips (fries) were plentiful. We had 2 large Diet Cokes with lotsa ice and a pitcher of water, not a little carafe that I can drink in 3 gulps. The desserts looked great, including Hokey Pokey ice cream, but we passed. Our bill was $88 NZD ($59 USD). Well worth it. I met the manager after and he was a pleasure and I could tell he was taking care of the business.
