I love the theatricals! The staff was so nice and genuine. I felt transported back in time. One of my favorite experience in Bath.

Lovely afternoon tea and a warm and comfortable atmosphere on a rainy afternoon. The scones were fresh and especially delicious with the jam and clotted cream accompaniments. Also loved the chocolate cake and carrot cake. Everything was served beautifully and the tea room was very pretty and pleasant to sit in.

Was lucky to get a table for five inside as the weather was too cold for eating outside. This tearoom definitely looks the part, as well as having a solid selection of different teas and a full food menu. Opted for the "Luxury Bath Bun Tea" (£7.50), which includes the aforementioned Bath bun, clotted cream, strawberry preserve, and a choice of tea. The Bath bun is large and fluffy, topped with sugar crystals and raisins. Loved the rich clotted cream and sweet strawberry preserve - using the entire allotment to finish the meal. For the tea, selected the Assam version - a supposed malty, dark mahogany flavor that may have been too subtle for me. Only one person manning the room, yet was able to get our items quickly. They do in fact take credit card, so a fine spot to whittle away time.

The other patrons enjoyed their lunches. We stopped in mainly for the candied colored cupcakes displayed at their windows. I wanted to get a dozen but ended up getting only half. They didn't offer the pretty ones as displayed in their window. And in the end, I'm glad that I didn't get the full dozen. The cupcakes were very plain and the frosting is also plain. To be quite honest, i was disappointed with the cupcakes which I got all excited about when i first saw them. I am giving it three stars because it is an OK tea room and seeing as I didn't have lunch there, it wouldn't be fair for me to give them less than 3 because their cupcakes aren't as good.

Best kept secret in all of Bath!…read more Like so many tourists who are wowed by the beauty of Bath, we recently had the pleasure of spending three days in the delightful city. While walking the area around the famed Bath Abbey, we wanted to find a good, "Mom-n-Pop" restaurant nearby. Voila! Enjoying the perfect location was a quaint sign, beckoning us to visit the Hands of Bath. We both enjoyed a very filling and delicious lunch. I had the lasagna and jacket potato, my partner had a simple, but perfect cheese/ham sandwich on a baguette. Predictably, our dessert stomachs were empty, so we shared a "clotted cream tea", which is a traditional scone (hand-crafted by Carol, a 30-year employee), clotted cream (surprise), fruit jam and a wonderful pot of Russian Caravan tea. We tried to go back the next day for a late clotted cream tea, but they had just closed their doors for the day. Note: if the window is left open at closing time, don't lean in and ask the server a question, as she's quite jumpy - LOL! The owner, wait staff, food quality / appearance, cleanliness, etc. were far above our expectations. I always enjoy and treasure an unexpected pleasure when travelling and this place checks all the boxes. Do yourself a favor and visit the Hands Tea Room. You can thank me later! ;-)
