It's a gorgeous old thatched pub which has low beams in the main bar, so low in fact that my very tall son in law always worries he is going to hit his head whenever we visit. They sell a good selection of real ales which change quite regularly, they don't always stick to the well known ones either which is nice as it forces customers to try something new. You can also choose from the more standard lagers, beers and spirits all of which are priced quite reasonably for the area. The bar is large and has a much more livlier atmosphere than the lounge but is not rowdy or boisterous by any stretch of the imagination. The Wheel House has a well placed pool table and you can also have a game of darts in the bar, if this is too strenuous for you then you can always take your drink to the garden out the back and relax in the sun.

I'll explain why and try to be concise. The cuisine is exceptional. There's a good selection of quality drinks. The service is excellent. The atmosphere is always friendly and welcoming -- the sort of place where complete strangers tend to strike-up conversation. The location is perfect, overlooking the Village Green, with a big beer garden behind, and a vast playing field behind that. It's a lovely village, nestled in the gently-undulating farming landscape of rural north-east Herts -- no wonder Braughing was recently awarded the prestigious "Village of the Year" accolade. The pub's menu always includes the best of local produce, from locally-reared beef to local pork sausages, alongside popular country pub dishes. (Braughing village is famous for, among other things, the delicious local sausages, and this is a good place to sample them.) Did I mention the pies? It has a lovely atmosphere inside and because children are welcome it's a great place to bring the family, there is a fairly large open fire so do take care to watch the children when you visit but otherwise this is a really nice place to have a drink and something to eat. The decor inside is lovely and puts me in mind of an older pub, which considering this is a 15th century building isn't hard to imagine. I felt really at home when I visited and thought the staff were absolutely lovely, it was quite quiet when I visited and the lady behind the bar was chatty and told me some interesting facts about the area and seemed to know exactly what was what around Stowmarket.

During the week the emphasis is more on the restaurant side, but during the weekends the place is hopping! The food is the best i have had in stowmarket and i would recommend it to anyone. Its not just the quality, but also the flavours that you notice. Everything is cooked to perfection and comes out quickly and is always hot. I noticed that theyhave regular Karaoke nights on there, and coming up the have a Michael Buble tribute artist on as well. You dont haveto be in your20's to go here as we saw all age ranges when we there there from 20's through to 70's. A delightfull place, even if you after a decent Capuccino in the afternoon.
