It's like an orange on a toothpick." ***** [I'll explain why I felt like the kid in "So I Married An Axe Murderer" later. On to my Yelp....] I remember coming here once before years ago when a science heavyweight was in town giving a lecture. Tonight? Tonight I was here to watch a movie....errrr...or should I say film. Yes, I was here to see a French film ("Summer Hours") thanks to the Battelle Film Club. Note: they show this movie on Fridays, and for some reason I'm always pooped on Fridays after a busy week. So, next time, I'll need to remember to caffeinate or pick a more action-packed film. ADMISSION: a whopping $3 CROWD: auditorium was surprisingly full, and of the blue hair variety WHAT: Every other week or so, the Battelle Film Club does it's part to inject the Tri-Cities a much needed dose of cinematic culture. The Auditorium is fair. I actually liked it's style. I'm a child of the '70s, and something told me this place was circa '70s. The film we watched was projected digitally and from a DVD. The screen is a little small, so I grabbed a seat in the front. "You're not going to sit in there with a hat are ya, sonny?" the older lady asked behind me. "Really? You're going to sit in the front row with a hat?! People don't do that?!" she implored again. "What? C'mon it's just a baseball cap [it's not an Abe Lincoln!]. No one is sitting behind me and the movie starts in 30seconds!" I replied back. Wow, it's been a while since I've been scolded by an elder like that. It was kinda interesting and made me feel like a kid again. But seriously, I felt like the kid with the big head that a Scottish Mike Meyers berates in "So I Married An Axe Murder"! At any rate, the Auditorium is cool. The movie selection is generally above average (better than the rubbish at the local multiplexes), and they serve refreshments and discuss the movie after the show. Often, I use a cane to assist me when walking, but I didn't have the need when I went to the game. The concessions were on the first level, and the steps to your seats, whether up or down, weren't narrow. Also, there is plenty of parking for only $5, and it's credit card only, which is typical after the pandemic. Most importantly, if you need a ticket, you just walk up to the window. As I mentioned in the other write-up, I am Deaf. When I went to the ticket window, I didn't expect the ticket agent to know American Sign Language (ASL), and I said, "I am Deaf. I need one ticket for tonight's game." Without hesitation, the ticket agent pulled out his phone and started typing. Within a few seconds, he pressed his phone against the window. It read, "Not a problem. Don't worry, I've got you." He made the experience easy for me, and I thanked him profusely. I wish I had taken the time to get his name. Overall, the ballpark is wonderful for a game -zero complaints from me.

Fenced in in a way that only if you drive and if you park close to the door you can get there quickly. 2.- I came with my parents and they have strict food restrictions because of their age. They can't have any seed or inflammatory oils and processed food. Usually at any stadium around this country, we carry a small sandwich bag with their curated snacks. This is the only stadium where they didn't allow us to bring their special food in. Even Yankee stadium allows that. Common sense should prevail. We drove from seattle to this stadium to watch the game, of course saving money and not buying snacks inside the stadium was not our goal. 3.- We sat right behind the VIP section on the visitor's side. It should actually be called the beer garden. It smelled like we were sitting at a bar. Even with that, no problem, these are adults drinking. They don't watch the game, they have full on hours of conversations with their drinking peers. We were so distracted by their noise and lack of interest in the game. Okay even then, they are adults, we are all adults consenting to be at that place. This is the problem, lots of little kids placed in this "VIP" section. Running around and participating in what is close to a bar setting. Truly disgusting, adults are having adult conversations and drinking lots of alcohol and the kids are subject to be in this environment, there is a reason why kids are not allowed in bars. We go to a lot of stadiums and love baseball. I don't plan on coming back. The baseball spirit is definitely not there. I feel so sorry for the kids that grow up around this kind of environment and this kind of people. Before I forget, they have lots of rules and lots of regulations. Kids can't touch the rails seems like it. Plenty of people with their red polo shirts, not taking care of the kids or the people, mostly just taking care of the stadium to not get sued. Because if they really cared about anything else. They would stop the disgusting picture of little kids being in an enclosed place that stinks like alcohol and carries on as a bar. Don't go there if you can avoid it.

I'm a big hockey fan and dedicated to all things WHL (Western Hockey League - the Junior A [20 and…read moreunder] league the Americans belong to). Since the inception in 1988, I've been going to games with varying frequency and found my interest post-college and started going fairly regularly since 2003. Fortunately for me, the Americans, as an organization, have found their stride from that point on. They've introduced exciting hockey for the fans, winning their division and conference several times (but never the championship!) since 2003. They produced a small amount of NHL players and prospects, but most importantly, have done well in increasing the fanbase and interaction in the community. Alas, prices have been rising as they continue to do well - the demand for quality hockey yields steeper ticket prices - but they've managed to maintain a few positive financial aspects: food venders in the Toyota Center have been succeeding and failing, but forever rotating and adjusting to better serve the customer. The fans are cantankerous and are second to only Spokane in ferocity, so their can be times where children will hear new words that don't fit into your desired dictionary. My advice: if you're sensitive to this, sit in section K which is the family friendly section. No booze, and its on the corner so you can get a good view of the action - unobscured by the glass and boards. If you don't give a hoot and want to be in the action, sit center ice behind the benches - they have nicer seats due to the Windermere Theater requests (for musicals, plays, etc). Or try somewhere between section S-Y which is on the "attacking" side of the ice (in hockey, there are 3 periods in regulation - the Americans try to score on the attacking side). Parking is free, but get there about 40 minutes before the game to get reasonable positioning. There is also a large gravel lot for overflow. Spokane is our greatest rival, so try to make those games if possible. Sunday games are earlier at 5pm...and typically the kids and adults can skate with the Americans after the game. Good time for the kids to get some autographs. Final advice: be a good fan. Welcome visiting fans, keep obscenities to a minimum, and be patient when the crowds can get thick. And cheer on the boys!!

Clink.......Clink....Clink...Clink..Clink, Clink…read more In another life, I would be clanking my tin cup against the bars of my jail cell. It would be because of the all-out melee I started at a Tri-City Americans hockey game in aught three (that's 2003 for you young folk). I used to like going to Americans hockey games, and went many times. The stadium is nice. The teams were pretty good (with a few players making it to the NHL over the years). I generally had really good times. But then one day, an ex and I took my bro and his lady there. Now my bro and I are half Canadian, so hockey pulses through our veins. So we were excited to be at a game. Our excitement was then taken up a notch when we saw some Native players playing! They were on the visiting team (Lethbridge, I believe), and the players were Colton Yellow Horn & Lenny Thunderchild. Colton is Blackfoot, so we were proud to see him out there. It was super cool. The coolnes only lasted a few minutes. Once the game was well underway (and nearby fans were well into a few beers), we started hearing the racial slurs and profanity. Our seats were right behind the visiting bench, so we were right in the middle of the rowdy rednecks. I know heckling is part of the game, but when people start getting racial and talking about someone's family, that's too much. The junk they were saying was messed up. We sat there and were just dumbfounded at first. I played scenarios in my head: dumping my Coke on the heads of the knuckleheads, and then thumping some skulls. I was ready to throw down. And I know my bro woulda had my back. The drunkards would have been beat down. But cooler heads prevailed. We left during the middle of the game. We contacted the Tri-City Americans organization and expressed our feelings about the situation. (To their credit, they apologized, but really, there's not much they could do. Dumb a$$es will be what they are.) We also submitted a letter to the Tri-City Herald as well. Too bad Yelp wasn't around back then. I've not seen a game since.

FOOD: To get a hot dog or hamburger, you first stood in the " Roman" line. 1 table , 2 people, for everyone present!! My wait was 20 minutes. Then you move to yet another line to order your food. ONE COOK, ONE SERVER, ONE GRILL!! INSANE. 15 minute wait tin line to order 2 cheeseburgers, then another line for pick up. 31 minutes wait and I finally interupted the Server to ask how long before they got to us and she couldn't find out tickets so she handed me the next cheeseburger and said there ya go. I told her my daughter's order was with mine. She couldn't find the ticket and at this point the grill was bare. I'm beyond frustrated. Now it's an additional 5 minutes to get her burger. It was catered by Emerald of Siam. 2 workers for hundreds of people. Honestly it's been like this for years. Why cant you add another bar and another food spot? Look at the money you're losing and I can tell you my whole table alone all said next time they would eat dinner before going to the concert. I can think of 20 ways to improve that problem, and it is a huge problem. Please work on improving food and drink service. Yiu have plenty of room to add additional stations and help!!
