North Christian Church is just another structure that makes Columbus, IN such an architectural icon. The building was designed in 1964 by Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen. It's shaped like a hexagon, with the sanctuary right in the middle. This results in the sanctuary having an insanely geometric and fascinating ceiling structure. You must go inside and take a look for yourself!

This may have been the first contemporary building in Columbus, but it was also one of the first contemporary-looking churches in the country. If you picture a cathedral and then see this building, you'll realize how revolutionary it was. The inside is beautiful; the sanctuary all made of wood, the cross off center, and amazing light fixtures throughout. It feels welcoming, interesting and cutting edge. Definitely take a look inside!

The worship service has a rotating group that ministers in music (contemporary songs and hymns) and the reading of scriptures and prayers. The congregation participates and lay ministers and elders share in the communion meditation. Pastor Marty delivers his sermon in a relaxed way that holds your attention. Pastor Virgil seems to know and remember the entire church, even the returning visitors. I'd guess that there are several hundred in attendance. The members are true servants for the Lord!
