A beautiful hotel, even during refurbishment. Dinner in the restaurant was marvelous. However, I was extremely disappointed to discover that the cigar room now closes at 11pm. Not enough time to have a cigar after dinner. I had to take a cab to the Garden Room at the Lanesborough a few blocks away. Having a cigar at the Ritz used to be a highlight of the visit. Such a shame the Ritz no longer has reasonable cigar hours and going to a competitor is necessary. If you want a cigar, I highly recommend the Garden Room at the Lanesborough Hotel. The patio of the American Bar at the Stafford Hotel is also a good alternative. The Cigar Merchant at Duke's nearby is also another choice better than the Ritz. The glazed front windows of the Ritz on Piccadilly Street says: "Cigars." They should remove that advertising during the present renovations. read more

We've been here many times and have never been disappointed. Whether one is having tea, drinks, or dinner, it is always a worthwhile experience. We particularly love having a drink in the art deco inspired bar, Rivoli, and then having dinner at the 2 Star Michelin restaurant - which should completely be a 3 Star. Wow the ambience is so upscale and filled with gold and decorative detail. Was able to snag a one person reservation last minute. I had to check in my coat and got a fancy tassel with my cloak room number. All the food is refillable for no fee. Finger sandwiches were good. Really liked the chicken salad sandwich with tarragon. Desserts were all good. Loved the blueberry cheesecake tart. Victorian strawberry cake at the end was nice and light. Cranberry and white chocolate scones was brought out at the end with a plain scones to have with the clotted cream and strawberry jam which was superb. You can also switch teas for no fee. Afternoon tea: Okay this place is really fun but I kinda felt judged/rushed the entire time. It's really expensive, but they serve you so much food! Finger sandwiches, scones, desserts, etc. I really LOVED the atmosphere. It was sophisticated, gentle, elegant, but kinda rushed. You only have 1.5 hours there, and they bring out food after food quickly. I wish it was a little slower paced but I understand that they want to be quick and convenient. I'm used to afternoon tea being relaxing, and slow but this one was a little bit of a push. You do have to dress up, so make an effort because everyone looks so gorgeous! The women are in beautiful dresses and the men in suits! The waiters are also in suits! Some make small talk but others are just straight forward for the job. I do wish more made small talk but I understand the pace if things. Overall, if you're visiting london definitely splurge a little and go! It's worth it, its fun, its something a little different, and it's worth the memories! I highly recommend! However, it was well worth it because I had the most magical time. When you first get here you are greeted by the nicest doorman and when you walk in you are immediately greeted by several other incredibly kind employees. I was first given instructions on how to get to the powder room to "freshen up " before tea time and also guided to the fancy shmancy cloak room. The bathroom is actually up a pretty steep flight of stairs , but it's so neat and the decor is definitely up to par with what one would expect of the Ritz. When I had initially booked my table about a month ahead of time I had requested vegan friendly options and was extremely excited when I got my confirmation email letting me know my birthday cake would be vegan and so would our patties and finger sandwiches! We booked the Christmas tea. It was the one thing my wife absolutely wanted to do during our London vacation but they were sold out when we went to book it October. I checked OpenTable every day hoping there was a cancellation and finally got a date booked for December 26th. The tea was ok. I suggest you order a fruit blend because they put the tea in the pot to brew so a black or green would over brew in that manner. The experience was exactly as we expected. My mates and I were dressed up to the "T" for afternoon tea. Get it??? The crowd was a mix of locals and tourist, few young and more older. If the the founder of the Ritz could see his hotel a hundred years later I think he would be very pleased. Its maintenance and refurbishment are tip top, and its staff still cleaves to old-time standards of service. While the strict enforcement of the no jeans or sneakers rule may irk some, and the requirement of a jacket and tie in the restaurants may seem old fashioned, they work to enforce the tone attempted here, which some may find a bit snooty. So be it; if that's not your thing, there are plenty of alternatives. But if you'd like to step back to the glamour of a past age, this is the place to do it. The Restaurant at the Ritz offers a similarly rarefied experience, at rarefied prices. But actually the tasting menu, which included eight courses for 95 pounds, was a good deal. While the food is not likely to garner Michelin stars, several courses were quite good. The matching wine pairings were generous, but few actually matched the food. We had a 7 night stay at this "luxury" hotel We love to travel and do so often We stayed in the Prince of Wales suite with the Arlington Suite and one additional suite. This was the "best of the best" Our rooms were lovely but in need of a refresh. The rooms are old and need new bedding and furnishings. I appreciate the elegance of days past but some modern updated things would go a long way The staff "Sachin" was amazing as were most of out butlers especially Lauren. The breakfast was just ok and the meal we had in their restaurant well it wasn't good. The waitstaff was SO rude. We had taken dance lessons for the Friday night dinner and a simple drink order was a bother. Forget about the fact that one of the members of our party asked for her duck to be well done as we Americans don't eat rare poultry. The server explained the chef does not cook duck well done to which we responded that is now we would like it. He came back to explain how inconvenient and unacceptable it was to serve the duck that way. It was a mess To finish our trip off my daughter who is 19 and her friend also 19 spent quite a few evenings down in the hotel bar. I learned one of the staff took them back to his place. Afternoon tea here is by far one of the most elegant experiences you'll ever have. Located in Green Park, the hotel is super easy to get to from the tube. Afternoon tea is reservation only and gets full very quick. We were seated immediately and asked for drinks from our excellent server. We also had champagne included in our service as well. For the food selections, it is pretty cut and dry. Finger sandwiches, desserts and of course tea! The tea selection is a great range, I ended up with the chocolate mint and it was one of the best teas I've ever had. The service lasts roughly around an hour and a half and the experience is one of a kind. There is a dress code for men (no jeans and must wear a tie). I was told they won't serve me coffee in the lobby because my shoes were not appropriate. It was a rainy day and I had my Chanel boots on. They enforce it too from what I've been told. Started out with glasses of champagne and then the tea. They have many to choose from. Then out come the tiered plates of classic tea sandwiches. Cucumber, salmon, etc. The best is the last! Incredible macaroons, and other delights that I forgot the names of. Of course my favorite is the scones with clotted cream and jelly! I fell in love with them 20 years ago in England and have loved them ever since. As if all that wasn't enough, they wheel a cart to your table with more cakes! I tried a piece of this incredible chocolate cake but by that point was stuffed! The service was impeccable! The atmosphere as classy as you can get. I can't stress enough that nobody should ever feel intimidated. It's England, (duh) they have different standards.
