Riverside Church not only is a house of interdenominational Christian worship, but art showcase, and music venue for the community. Heavily associated with activism throughout its history and social causes. Today was a concert by The Riverside Church Inspirational Choir in the Main Nave. A friend was singing as a soloist in the choir so we went to support her. The Church's nave and exterior are in neo-gothic style. Impressive, with stained glass windows all around the nave. A simple cross suspended at the main altar. The nave is a large one sitting approximately 2,000 people. A gem of a church in Morningside Heights which already houses magnificent churches

I just love gothic style churches. This one is neo gothic and majestic! Glad I visited during a service today. The tour afterwards gave so much information. (Tours are held every Sunday after 11am service). The bell towers (where I think Quasimodo would live) are finally being reopened for public tours- they had been closed since 9/11. There's a cafeteria, couple vending machines, gift shop, workshop rooms and conference halls with panoramic views of Manhattan/Bronx, a gym, 5 chapels, and so much more in this massive labyrinth of a magnificent church! Fun fact: Rev Martin Luther King Jr. preached here a couple of times.

Amazing Gothic architecture that sits in Morningside Heights! My party of three ventured to Riverside Church for a outdoor random photo session. Sadly with lack of time compound with sheer physical exhaustion, thus we did not enter the grounds. Glorious outer view of this massive structure which worshipers of all faiths and respective ethnicity backgrounds adore as this review is entirely based on. Since I have not enter Riverside Church's grounds--I cannot comment further.

Man, it must be good to be God if it means people build buildings like this for you. I suppose it must be good to be God for other reasons too, but whatever. I am not a religious person in the slightest, and I was raised Jewish, but I've always been fascinated by churches. Riverside is hands-down my favorite in New York City. Besides its sheer size and stunningly beautiful gothic architecture, it's like the church that keeps on giving. You want a massively beautiful chapel? Check. Smaller choir chapels? Check. A huge tower with offices and meeting rooms with stunning views? Check. Welcoming congregation? Yup. A really nice theater in the basement? You got it. Don't forget the Flemish stained glass windows. I've seen the New York Philharmonic play The Messiah here twice, and I'm currently rehearsing for a show that goes up in the theater downstairs. A beautiful, liberal Church that supports the arts? That's enough to make a convert out of me!

The one and only non-denominational church that bears the architectural grandeur and materials that I have always admired and loved. I can't wait to attend the service and feeling God's grace and blessing through the choir. Serious security staff. Endearing and helpful staff that welcomes your presence with an open heart. With the river view outside the church, the walking experience makes you forget that you are in Harlem, NYC.

The Riverside Church opened in 1930, and financed by John D. Rockefeller Jr. And it is currently an interdenominational church, as it welcomes Christians from different denominations or sects. The church does have a tall tower, but not accessible at all. So you will not be able to go to the top of it. It has its share of famous people speaking there. The church is free to enter. There is the worship area, with nice art of stained glass windows. And there is the Gethsemane Chapel, which is by the right of the entrance, outside of the main worship area. While it is not worth going out of your way, just to see this alone, it is a good place to check out and look around while waiting for Grant's Tomb to open to visitors. And a place to relax your feet, and escape from extreme weather. In other words, this place can be visited along with Grant's Tomb. It can be seen really quickly, and free to enter, so not really a waste of time.

Yay! This church is so beautiful. I love the gothic architecture and it brings me back to my holidays in Europe. My cousin had her wedding here and it was beautiful. There's a huge area for the cocktail hour and a giant banquet room for the reception. The church provides a great backdrop for photos and the scenery outdoors is equally nice because Sakura Park is right there and there's plenty of trees along the river.

An awesome space despite recent construction. Beautiful architecture and it shines as a beacon from below and above the Morningside Heights area. A carillon is a set of tuned bells played from a special keyboard high up in a tower. The bell tower of Riverside church is 22 stories high, and when Kelly Choi paid a visit, you could hear the bells ringing ten blocks away! Home to the largest tuned bell in the world per http://a002-vod.nyc.gov/html/secrets_of_new_york.php?id=2383&pn=1

We were nearby when we decided to come inside this church. From the outside it was such a magnificent building. It was Sunday , 4PM. The door was open, so we entered. (from the Riverside Drive entrance) The decor inside was as beautiful as the exterior, low vault ceiling in the entrance hall and then the high majestic cathedral ceiling in the sermon hall..When we came, there was a rehearsal going on, people were setting up the stage..We took some photos, sat for a while admiring the beauty. We then went downstairs, towards the visitor center, there when there was a church guard/staff sitting said the church is closed, and she asked us to leave (in a rude way). She didn't let us to go upstairs back to the main floor and told us to leave via the 91 claremont entrance. The door of the front church was open. We thought when the door of the church is open, it means everyone is welcome to come in? This is the first time we were asked to leave the church when it's open..If they don't want people to come, why open the door? What if one lost soul come and were told rudely to leave?... PS: Later on we checked their web, it says it open daily from 7 AM to 10 PM....

Not welcoming or friendly. Staff comes across as annoyed by visitors rather than creating a sense of community.

I'll never forget it: I was welcomed by an usher who gave me the kind of hug that said, "You're home now." No side-eyes, no judgment--just love, warmth, and a seat in a beautiful space where I could experience the service at my own pace (and catch my breath from walking through Times Square--because whew). The music? Absolutely incredible. The choir will have you praising, swaying, and maybe even forgetting you're wearing those new shoes that weren't made for dancing. It's joyful, powerful, and real--and you don't need to know the words to feel the Spirit. Services are held at 10 AM and 1 PM, so whether you're an early bird or the kind who needs that second cup of coffee (no judgment--I've been both), there's room for you. And yes--they even have discounted parking if you get your ticket stamped. Because even in New York, Jesus is still helping you save. From programs for children to ministries for adults, the church is full of life, love, and purpose. Everyone is treated with kindness and respect. It's a place where people grow, laugh, cry, heal--and worship together. So if you're looking for a church that feels like family, sounds like heaven, and welcomes you just as you are--come through. You just might leave with a full heart, a new friend, and a joyful song stuck in your head all week.

Located along Fifth Avenue across from Rockefeller Center, we walked up to a structure that immediately stands out with its towering Gothic Revival architecture. Once inside, the atmosphere became noticeably quieter, the kind of shift that makes you slow down and appreciate both the history and craftsmanship of the building without the noise of Midtown filtering through. The interior is just as impressive as the exterior. We spent time moving through the space, taking in the soaring ceilings, detailed stonework, stained glass windows, and rows of arches that create a beautiful setting drawing attention in every direction. We found ourselves spending more time walking through the cathedral than we originally expected because there were so many architectural details and smaller chapels to admire. Even without visiting for religious reasons, the artistry and design made the stop feel intentional rather than just a quick look inside. Despite welcoming a large number of visitors each day, the cathedral still maintains a peaceful atmosphere. People naturally speak more quietly, and it never felt overly chaotic during our visit. It is an active place of worship, so being respectful of those attending Mass or spending time in prayer while exploring the cathedral is important. Admission to enter the main cathedral is free, making it one of the easiest historic landmarks to visit while exploring Midtown Manhattan. If you are interested in learning more about the building's history and areas that are not normally accessible, guided tours are also available, but simply walking through the main sanctuary is worthwhile on its own. The contrast between the peaceful interior and the energy of Midtown Manhattan made the visit memorable, and the architecture alone makes it one of the city's most impressive landmarks.

I've got a lot of musicians in my family that made their living playing orchestra in the shows. But that's another story! The church design and decor are so beautiful. There are a lot of angels painted on the the walls. They do not mind picture taking. I'll go back for service and take pictures of the Angels I'm sure!!
