This wasn't high on my priority list but I ended up here during an unplanned morning walk from the Element Hotel. I couldn't walk up the steps in its entirety as the bottom half was blocked by a big stage that was leftover from July 4 celebrations. However, I was able to walk up the top half, snap a pic of the 8'6", 46-year old statue, digitally erase all the people around it and called it a day. Fun fact - there are two Rocky statues. The first - which is the original statue from Rocky III - is on the sidewalk a few steps from the stairs that take you to the art museum. The second - the one at the top of the steps - is from Sylvester Stallone's personal collection that he loaned to the City. It was supposed to be returned to him, but it has decided to stick around for a while. It might be just a statue, but as fan of the first four - okay five - Rocky films, I loved walking up the steps to see it and turning around to look over the Washington Monument, Eakins Oval and City Center skyline. Yo Adrian! I made it to the Rocky statue and it was awesome as I also got to be part of the filming of a Blippi episode who's my little ones favorite show to watch ! I was able to video call her and he said hello to her and we ran up the stairs together ! The line wasn't that bad for a Friday afternoon but what was really cool as there is a second statue for those who cannot climb stairs . I stopped by the Rocky Statue last night over by the Philadelphia Museum of Art. it's one of those classic Philly things to do when we are in the area. There was no line, so we just walked up and took our pictures. It's definitely touristy, but in a fun "okay yeah, this is kind of iconic" way, especially if you're a movie fan. This was a huge highlight being able to see the Rocky statue. It was a beautiful day in Philly. There was no line to take pictures with the Balboa statue. We took the walk up the long steps to the 2nd Rocky Statue. I noticed that the facial features and hair were different from the other Rocky. We took pictures here as well. Then we walked out to the gift shop. Apparently, it's been there for about 1 years. It contains a lot of cool things. Hoodies, Zip up jackets. Boxing robes, tee shirts, magnets, hats, socks and so much more. The service assistants were quick and friendly. Great Hospitality for sure. I picked up a few things. i am a rocky fan, i mean my frenchie was named after the character, also very fitting. anyhoo. when in philly, i knew i needed to make a pit stop here. it was so neat to see the stairs, which look a lot smaller than the movies lol..72 steps to be exact. we visited during the week, so it was not too busy for both statues. we arrived by taking the big bus tour, so it was stop #15! there is also a store on street level for "rocky" merch over all, it was pretty cool to take photos and see it IRL! there is so much history in this city! :) the stairs up lead to the east entrance of the philadelphia museum of art. read more

The biggest thing that I'm happy about is that now there is a gift shop. I have stopped here four or five times, but that was years ago. But that experience is now different because when you stop nowadays you can go get some gear. You're going to have to run the Rocky steps I know and that will be a picture but if you can get a picture with the Statue, well now you're living. I didn't see long lines, we were able to get in, get our picture and get away. Yes parking is going to be a challenge, don't expect to pull up and have a spot waiting for you right in front. It's a little bit of a busy street so you're going to have to have a little patience to park and then walk over. read more

Rocky Balboa is such an icon here in Philadelphia. Running up the Rocky Steps and getting a picture with the statue is a must. I have seen all the movies over and over again and use the movies scenes and the music as inspiration whenever I run my 5K's. I always carve out some time to run up all 72 steps when I visit Philly. Sylvester Stallone commissioned A. Thomas Schomberg to create three of these 10-foot tall, 2-ton statues for Rocky III in the early 80's. One was placed at the top of the Rocky Steps in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art for the movie. The statue has moved around a few times after the movie. The Museum argued that the statue was a movie prop and not art. It was in front of the Philadelphia Spectrum for some time before being relocated to a grassy area near the foot of the steps to the right of the Museum in 2006. This is where is stands today. Sylvester Stallone bought one of the other statues in an auction. The third one is at the Schomberg Studios Gallery in Denver, CO. At the top of the Rocky Steps is a bronze inlay of Rocky Balboa's sneaker imprints that you can stand on. In 2023, Sylvester Stallone was awarded a Key to the City and December 3rd was officially declared as "Rocky Day" in the City of Brotherly Love. I docked a star because there are scam artists that say they are staff and charge money for people that are in line to have their photos in front of the statue. Avoid these idiots as they don't work here and are not associated with the city, the museum or the statue. Heads up, they can be very demanding and rude. The Rocky Statue is a cool spot for a photo op if you're in the area of Philadelphia. It's located at the steps of the famous Rocky Steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, so you can do both at once, if you're a fan of the films and of art. One thing I'll note is that there are folks who hang around the statue and ask you nicely if you want them to take a photo of you with the statue. These are normal citizens just hanging around, not employees of the museum or anything. Only after they've taken your photo, will they demand you owe them money (I think it was $5). We didn't fall prey to this, but definitely ask if it has a charge, if someone offers to take your picture with the statue. Along with visiting the city of Philadelphia to climb the iconic steps as Sylvester Stallone once did in Rocky II (1979) film, I just had to see The Rocky Statue which sits off to the side of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. While in line, I really adored the crowd of individuals waiting in line to take a picture next to it. The memory of how cheerful and fan-like the majority were, and the thought that many of them came from different parts of America just to take a picture by it will forever make me smile as a Rocky Balboa movie enthusiast. After taking a picture next to the statue, thanks to a fellow enthusiast who took the picture, I walked over to the Philadelphia Museum of Art to climb those stairs which were steeper than I imagined. I ended up doing four repetitions rather than just one since climbing them was a top priority during my visit to Philadelphia. Depending on your fitness level, you will indeed feel it later if you do more than one repetition, but the experience outweighs the soreness you will feel later. Every time I think of those steps, I cannot help but think of the theme "Gonna Fly Now" by Bill Conti. The view at the top of the steps was more beautiful than I imagined, a view that I could see myself yearning to see again as a fulfillment of having arrived in the "City of Brotherly Love". They have a little trailer that they sell Rocky and Philly things like shirts and hats. Then they have the stairs on the side. Being a big Rocky fan, it was neat to finally see the statue. Been here twice now, it's off to the side of the famous steps he ran up. There is usually a line to take a picture. Enjoy it! The steps weren't as intimidating as I thought they'd be. Also, there's a gift shop in a trailer next to it. Only thing I'm not a fan about is the Lyft/Uber drop-off and pickup area. I love cinema and I would totally consider myself a cinephile, that being said I have to ay this spot should probably be a 3 for me for a few reasons but I will give it a 4. The nostalgia is kind for lost for me however for the below reasons: 1) location - it has been moved off to the side away from the stairs and museum, it takes you out of the moment. it is in a very nice little part of the grounds near the sidewalk and intersection but it feels off. 2) You walk up to see it and you can see staff there to help keep the "traffic flowing" but I learned, more than staff there. There are also vagrants standing there looking like staff, they ask if you want. A photo and take your phone from you, snap photos then ask you to pay them for it while they have your phone. Definitely easier to find in the day time and easier to take pictures. Easy walk to get here from downtown Philly. There was a line to take photos with Rocky statue in the afternoon but it was about 10 mins so the wait wasn't bad and had some shade from the hot sun. Talk about a tourist trap. But unlike some tourist traps that you will see, this one is nothing more than a photo op. Is it cool? Heck yeah. You get to see the statue of Rocky, snap yourself a photo or selfie and post it to your social media. Is it worth it? Not really. Not when it has an overabundance of people with the same idea. It is kind of like organized chaos. Even though every single person has the same idea here, it is kind of orderly. There is a line to have your turn and snap your pic. Or you could have just been like me and snap a pic from afar and get the same effect. So, yeah, there you have it. If you have the time and patient there is no doubt that should stop by here and do your thing. But if you are an introvert and want your space, do it from afar. I definitely did not seek this spot out but had been on the "Big Bus Tour" and it was in an area that I wanted to stop. There was a line, but it only took a couple minutes and there were a couple homeless guys offering to take my photo. I let them do it was I was travelling Solo and gave them a few bucks. I tend to take care of the homeless/locals when travelling anyway, so it is what it is. They probably make great money there which is funny. If you walk down and to the right you can find a walking trail along the river. There is also a damn and lots of nice greenery areas. I explored the area for about an area. Also, obviously the Museum of Art. It is one of the only places I could find with a rest room and they do make it very prevalent they do not have a public restroom. Also, not many facilities around to find water. There is an ice cream man in front of Rocky though that sells water, coke, slushes, icecream and some other sweet treats for ridiculously high prices. read more
