Small amount of context: I'm a recent cancer survivor, femme bodied, neurodivergent and nonbinary. Just moved back to Seattle and haven't been to a barbershop before, so I was in the market for an understanding barber at a chill place. When I called the background noise seemed quiet, was told to book online. Website seemed a little fancy for me? Decided to give it a shot, booked with Kory. Showed up and it was old school- every chair filled, basketball game on in the background, a loud crisscross of easy conversations. Completely unpretentious. Felt like I was a kid at a shop in the 90's. Now, barbering is a different experience from a longer haircut- I was unprepared and completely overstimmed. I told Kory and he easily adapted, letting me know what he was doing beforehand, giving me a relaxed heads up for sensations like buzzing and shearing (as a sensory experience it was amazing, tbh). Kory also took time to reassure me that I was welcome in the cishet/masc space. I was so focused on keeping my head still I couldn't really interact with anyone else, but they all sounded cool from what snippets I overheard. The barber I booked showed up late but brushed it off as a miscommunication bc of an issue with their online booking system. The overall experience was a little odd. My barber didn't talk much or try to get to know their new client which I thought was a bit strange. But they did a great job cutting my hair so decided to try this place again. Booked another cut here and the barber didn't know he had an appointment. Showed up late again and didn't talk to me much at all during the cut. Unprofessional and lack luster service. It's been 6 years since I wrote my last review of the Roosevelt Barbershop & I feel it's well overdue for an update! I've been a loyal customer to Rex, owner and barber at the Roosevelt. Before, Rex used to work at a couple of different barber shops in Seattle. I used to frequently visit him as a young UW student when he worked at Supreme Cutz on University Way. Over 10 years later, I still get my haircut from the same barber. Even better, he now owns his own barber shop. I've changed my hairstyle a few times over the past 10 years and not once, has Rex ever messed up my hair. In fact, if he's unavailable to cut my hair during a certain week, I'll suck it up and have my hair all long and ugly, rather than to get it all jacked up by some random barber in the Seattle area. Its that worth it! Anyways, make sure to call at least a week before your desired date, since they do get pretty busy. There are 2 other barbers there, Matt & Niko that both do great work as well. If you're particular, call and ask to make an appointment with Rex. You won't go wrong. Also, the Roosevelt Barbershop cuts all variety of hair. If you want a clean fade with a line up or just a normal trim, or whatever! They can do it all! This shop is for everyone! Even my dad has gone there! Prices: $25 for a haircut. (Cash Only) While it may be more expensive than Super Cuts or Sports Clips, it sure looks like it. Treat yourself to a nice haircut and look good! Came into the Barber looking for a quick cut for a job interview the next day. Not only is their online booking service busted, they have poor service towards a customer. From the beginning, a black gentleman was asked if he was free to give me a cut. From the start, the gentleman carrys an attitude and I brush it off as nothing major. I proceeded to talk and show him about my cut. When I mention that I would like my cut slightly different from the image shown, he proceeds to question what I want in a rude manor. I decide to leave and take off the cape, the man slaps my hand away from the pin, as if being rude from the start wasn't enough. This is a shame of a business with a shame of a barber. read more

They did an ok job, and seemed like funny guys, but when the two guys left before me after finishing their haircuts, they just started talking s**t about their "client." So I have to figure they talked s**t about me as soon as I left. Actually I felt a little intimidated--like they'd hunt me down and beat the crap out of me if they saw my review. So I waited till I moved away before posting this, haha. I wouldn't call this place "professional" by any stretch. But they were nice to my face and my haircut wasn't bad. I don't really care about the rumor that they wouldn't serve a customer wearing OKC gear. In fact that pretty much sums this place up. So, as others on here I was a standard "Super Cuts" customer that would get a mediocre haircut every couple of weeks. Finally, I had started to look around for a more "specialty" barber shop that could cater to my needs a little better than your average chain. I tried one shop, and while it was better than Super Cuts it still wasn't what I had envisioned. Finally, one night I was watching the local news and saw something about a barber shop kicking out an OKC Thunder fan. YES! Luckily, this barbershop was only a couple miles away from me. I decided that this was going to be my next stop in my quest for a great haircut. I called the next day (Friday morning) and asked if they had any openings around 11AM (when they opened). I was told to call back in about 15 minutes when other barbers would be able to tell me their availability. 5 minutes later, I got a call back saying that John could give me a cut at 12:45. That worked for me! I arrived promptly at 12:45 and was seated immediately by John. He's a very personable barber and the scene in the shop was very chill and laid back. I told him how he should cut my hair and he began to do it. After talking about the Sonics, the OKC fan, and the potential new business that scene could bring in, my haircut was done in about an hour (great things take time!) The haircut was exactly what I was looking for. The fade was extremely clean, and nothing was rushed. I'll definitely be coming back and becoming a regular of John's. Give them a try if you're tired of the same old chains! You won't look back! read more

I was visiting Seattle and needed a haircut. Yelp pointed me to this place. Worse haircut ever!!! I told the barber I wanted a trim with a little more off the top. He did the opposite. I guess he was too busy entertaining the other barbers with chatter about late night drinking and sports. Its Saturday, my normal barber is not available for a cut today. Normally I would wait it out but I have a business meeting Monday so I want my hair to be on point for the work week. So as any Yelper would do, I check yelp and I spot a barbershop with good reviews. I call the shop and schedule a 3 o'clock appointment with Nicholas due to traffic I was 10 - 15 mins late (my fault, no excuses). But once I get there he has 1 in the chair, waits till I sit and says "are you walking in?" Nope I have an appointment at 3, I'm a few mins late tho. "I wouldn't have been able to get you today. Come back Monday. " anyone else have any availability? I got no eye contact... What? Are you serious? I can understand saying its going to be a while but Monday? But no one is in the shop waiting. Walked out, called Supreme Cutz, got a solid cut. Enough said. I can't comment on barber skills but service skills were trash. Won't be back. read more

I agree with Joe G. He probably got the same guy I got. I think his name is Jason, hes a big white guy with tats that wears a baseball cap. He is the "minion" and typically answers calls and makes the appts. The first time I went in I got Jason because he was the only one available, eh, it was decent haircut. Thought it was odd how towards the end he'd ask "Rex" to come check out the cut to ensure it was OK. Thought that was weird. The entire time he was yapping and not really paying attention to my hair but luckily it turned out OK. Second time in got Jason again secondary to his open schedule. This time the results were subpar at best. He cut without really knowing what he was doing, he clipped by ears with the buzzer and with the thinning shears he "pulled" out my hair instead of cutting it. Ouch! At the end again he called "Rex" over and I could tell Rex had skills but Jason screwed up my hair so bad there was only so much he could do. Come on man! Its a buzz cut! How on earth can you get that wrong! I paid top dollar for an "apprentice" like haircut and that just won't work. Can't comment on the other barbers but def avoid Jason (i.e., I think thats his name). If you do go get Rex. Regardless, I am not going back. read more

Many has mentioned that you may want to call in to reserve a spot because they all have regulars coming in.. RB is dedicated and stays loyal to their customers and thats what they get in return. All the barbers there does an excellent job. They are profressionals -everything is executed with precision and finesse. I know this because ive sat in the shop and watched them work, I know this because my fiance is a weekly customer, I know this because .. because I know im right! I feel ashamed to say so, but I am another typical "Super Cut Masters N Curl" haircut guy. After about the 30th time of them not really understanding what kind of haircut I wanted, and ending up once again looking like I was fresh out of the mental institution. I decided that enough was enough, I would go get my haircut from somewhere nicer. I checked out a few of the other Seattle staple barber shops, but after paying $28 and $40 at another place. I decided that I would give Roosevelt a try, plus they were right by my buss stop after getting off work. After the first haircut I am hooked. These guys know how to wield scissors. I have had my hair cut by John, Roderick and Niko. They all do a great job. My wife (girlfriend at the time) couldn't stop complimenting on how good of a job they did on my hair. They are not the most professional group of people, there are inappropriate jokes, hilarious commentary on whatever sport (or movie) is on. But hey, its a barber shop, that is half the fun/entertainment. Anyway, now a year and a half after my first visit. I came here once again last time to get my haircut before my Wedding, even though I moved from Seattle to Renton. Great place, will come back again. read more

The barbers collectively have enough ethnic diversity for a model UN, and you'll hear them jibing with each other in a good natured, guys guy sort of way. I used to get my haircut at supercuts by girls in their early 20s who just graduated from beauty school. I didn't care that they would miss spots or not do the style I wanted - I liked having a cute girl massage my head and only paying $10. Then I got a real haircut from John at the Roosevelt Barber Shop. The difference is similar to the difference between getting a dollar burger at McDonalds and a gourmet flame broiled monster at el Gaucho. Yes, you have to call in advance - these guys are booked up several days in advance, usually. Yes, you have to be on time - these guys run a tight shift. Yes, they are brisk on the phone. But if you don't want your head to look like a mop, give these guys a call. read more

Been here a couple of times and I love it. The first time I went was with a friend since they're generally busy so **definitely call ahead to make sure they're free**. The atmosphere is what you'd expect from a barbershop: funny and vulgar. However, when it comes down to cutting your hair, they're on point. This is a mans sanctuary without any interruptions. Rex, from what everyone's already wrote before is superb. Almost as if he sold a part of his soul to be THIS good at cutting hair. You immediately feel a sense of family when you sit in Rex's chair. It's so easy to be comfortable around all of them. I had that moment where I knew my hair is going to turn out great no matter what he did. I ended up getting a mid fade, 1.5 on the sides. John is my barber. I started seeing him for my cuts while he was still working at Supreme Cutz on the Ave. When he moved, I did too. His cuts are simply that good, I've never had a bad experience. From everything I hear about the other barbers, their work is just as good. If you're looking for a great $20 cut at a no-fuss men's barbershop, this is the place for you. Plus they've got a few flat screens that are always showing whatever games were on and good music to boot. Appointments are recommended since these guys are pretty good and have a pretty loyal client base. read more

The Roosevelt Barbershop is responsible for me falling head over heels in love with this guy last fall on our first date. He went to get a beard trim and a haircut before our date and apparently he was talking about how he had to come pick me up at my parents house and all that stuff that girls make a guy do when we feel like it... His bartender told him to get his nice cowboy shirt dry cleaned and he made his beard all clean and sexy and sprayed some awesome aftershave on him and my date picked me up and the rest is history! Moral of the story is: great haircuts, great beard trims, and great barber advice for those men with caveman-like tendencies. read more

I have been getting my haircut from Rex for the past 10 years+. Rex has ALWAYS went out of his way to go the extra mile, and I never leave unhappy. In fact, I usually takes pictures of myself the day of my cuts because he makes my facial hair look clean, sharp and fancy. All the barbers are friendly and funny guys, and the barber shop talk is always on point. If you are going for a walk-in (they do those) I HIGHLY recommend calling ahead, because all the barbers have a very loyal client base, and usually are filled up. A-OK. I just moved to Seattle and I am looking for a new barber. This will not be the place. The quality of the cut was good, but the price was absurd. I popped in to get the back of my neck shaved and the hair around my ears trimmed. I got exactly that, but the value for money doesn't cut it for me. The price board had a number of options. A touch-up of some sort was around $10 or $15, a hair cut was listed around $25, a face shave was $40, and topping the price list there was an ambiguously named option simply called "The Roosevelt" for $50. Seeing as the barber didn't touch anything on top of my head or on my face, I figured I was getting a check-in (it has been two weeks since my last hair cut) or maybe I was receiving a hair cut. However, as he was shaving my neck the barber said "Normally this would be $50, but I'll just charge you $40 today." I have a policy of not arguing with people who have blades pressed against my neck, especially when they are pretending to do me a favor, so I just said "Okay." I paid the $40 plus $6 tip, dumbfounded. The back of my head looks good. The place clearly has a loyal following. Perhaps it was my fault for not explicitly negotiating prices before sitting down or for pushing back when he told me the price, but I feel like I shouldn't have to do such things. In the end, I don't know if the price I got charged is run-of-the-mill or if he was just gouging me because I'm not a regular. Either way I won't be back to see. read more

I was introduced to Rex four years ago by a mutual friend. I had just recently got a haircut at a different place while trying to change up my hairstyle at the time when this friend took one look at me, gave me Rex's card and said "go see this guy". I went to go see Rex that same day and mentioned that my friend sent me here. He asked me what i was trying to do, had me take a seat and touched up all the mistakes that the first barber made. Didn't even charge me for it and I've been going back ever since. They're a good bunch of guys in there, super laid back and always busy so I recommend booking at least a week ahead of time to make sure they have the availability. read more

The Roosevelt Barber Shop is that place that I have been going to for a few years now, ever since I was referred by a friend. I have never been let down with the look I leave the shop with, and have always had great experiences going in. All of the barbers are cool, but Rex is the guy I've been seeing the entire time I've been going there. The environment is laid back and they usually have some kind of sports show playing on the TVs around the shop. Sometimes they mute the TVs and play music instead. Either way, it's not a bad environment for a haircut! There is plenty of street parking, although it may be best to park right around the corner, since the street out front is a tow away zone after 4PM. I've never spent more than two minutes finding a spot nearby. There is also a bus stop right out front, and plenty of options for food or coffee nearby. It's also right next to the freeway, so getting in and out isn't hard by any means, even if you don't live in the immediate area. Since I found out about this place, I wouldn't want to get my hair cut anywhere else. I plan on continuing to see Rex whenever I need to and appreciate the ability to fit my haircut into my schedule at a moment's notice when necessary. I would definitely recommend The Roosevelt as the place to go for your next haircut! read more

Really easy place to find. Get off of I-5 at the 65th NE and Ravenna exit, go two blocks north and it's right next to the bus stop. Plentiful parking with the Park & Ride right across the street too. If you underestimate the importance of a good barber and a good barbershop, you're clearly a idiot. You can't always find both but here you will. These guys take a lot of pride in their work and it shows. I've never been dissapointed with the results. The biggest difference I've noticed at this shop is that they're truly dedicated to their craft, whereas other "barbershops" invest more in entertainment to keep you from noticing how bad they fucked up your fade or your line. Those shops typically charge more as well. Don't waste your time or money, get it done at the Roosevelt. Lil Jon is my guy but they're all top notch barbers. read more
