The food is fantastic, great beers on tap, extremely warm atmosphere and I must say I have never met a more generous, accommodating, friendly staff at any pub I've been to. I cannot recommend the place enough - wonderful stuff! Daran read more

Fantastic food, very good prices and all locally sourced. The fish is excellent here, and it comes form the fantastic fishmonger just down the road. The Mersea oysters served with a tequila shot to start are fantastic, both in flavour and price (3 oysters, £6.50), and the roasted pidgeon breast with parsnip mash were just perfect. All I can say is go there now. The chef (Mat Lucania) has come from some of the best kitchens in London and is really influencing the menu is a vibrant and effective manner. read more

DONT EAT HERE. Unfortunately we did one Saturday lunchtime. The wife had chilli con carne and I a quiche and chips. Bothe were served up on 6" paper plates with a plastic fork each. Hers was hot and cold in places, clearly inadequately heated in a micro wave whilst the rice was overcooked. Mine was just plain appalling, taseteless with but a handful of chips and a complaint of dissatisfaction when the food was delivered was just ignored. If we'd been charged kids portions, then possibly fair enough, but we weren't, £7.50 for the chilli con canre. You've been forewarned, wish we had as we came here based upon the recommendation.Never again. Ale was nice, but we had to insist upon a glass rather than the plastic cup it was presented in. Would have awarded minus stars. read more
