Well worth a stop, even a detour to visit, if you have even the slightest interest in Wright. More a beautiful, and important, work of art than a house. Tour times don't seem to be specified anywhere, but when we randomly stopped in early on a Saturday afternoon, we only had to wait 10 minutes or so. We were 2 of just 5 on tour, so nicely intimate. The starting point is the parking and building across the street from the house. We were told not to sit anywhere or touch anything, A bit of a downer for someone like me who is constantly leaning or sitting, but the tour is not particularly long, and the house did have a/c installed by the original owners, so it's not uncomfortable. While en route to TX, we made a quick detour to knock another FLLW property off the list. Inwould say this had its ups and downs - but overall worth the trip and very quick if you have been to other FLLW houses and don't need the usual base info on who he was, his style etc. Your was pretty basic, and allowed for photos inside the house and for those taking the tour to freelance in the house. A smaller house to me that usual, the tour guide was very nice. However - the gift shop and registrar was in a school room. Not a whole lot of options for purchasing. Just was ok - and there's nothing wrong with that. read more

If you like Frank Lloyd Wright, you will enjoy a visit to this house. This is a good example of his usonian style. Our tour guide was really knowledgeable and really gave us the background of the build and the family for whom it was built. How lucky that Mrs Rosenbaum sold this house to the city of Florence including the furnishings. She stayed involved and got the house placed on the historic register. There is a small gift shop with bathroom where you buy your tickets and wait for your tour. They did have some neat things in the gift shop. Definitely worth a visit. read more

The Rosenbaum House is the only Frank Lloyd Wright home in the state of Alabama. As a bit of a Frank Lloyd Wright-phile, I try to visit as many as I can when I travel. And the Rosenbaum House? It's in Florence, Alabama, which is a great day trip from Nashville (where I currently live). So I packed up the car with my husband and a friend, and we made a day of it! The Rosenbaum House was designed by FLW for a young couple, and it has the distinction of being the only FLW house for which he also designed an addition (the Rosenbaums had four sons and needed more space). A great example of FLW's Usonion style, the house is definitely worth a day trip to visit! The house is stunning (grid system, Alabama and other regional materials, some original FLW furniture, lots of bookshelves and fascinating and functional storage). When you drive up, you park and purchase your tickets ($10 per adult) at the old school across the street from the house. The tours begin on the hour. Our tour guide was great. He had a personal connection to the house (Mr. Rosenbaum had been a professor of his at college and he had been invited over to the house for milk and cookies and Don Quixote) and was extremely knowledgeable about FLW and the home. The ticket area also has a gift shop (we might have spent a little $$$). Whether you love FLW or are just curious to learn more about American architecture, the Rosenbaum House is well worth a visit! It's pretty unusual to find a FLW in this part of the country - and we're lucky the City of Florence saw the value in the home, bought it from Mrs. Rosenbaum, and spent the money to renovate the house (even after a building inspector encouraged the city to just tear it down). It's a great day trip from Birmingham or Nashville (and lots of other places, too), or it'd be a great stop on a road trip! Check it out! read more

What a great visit, this house is a treasure. It is a beautifully restored FLW Usonian home, with an addition designed by Wright 8 years after the original construction. My guide was warm and incredibly knowledgeable. If you're anywhere near Florence, do not miss this special experience. read more

This home is a "must see" for any lover of Frank Lloyd Wright's design. The restoration, the setting, and the tour are wonderful. Even on a rainy day the magic of this home was on full display. This Usonian design was so influential for all the ranch style houses that followed in the 1950s and beyond. The tour was very helpful in placing this house and this family into the context of Wright's magnificent catalog of buildings. read more

We were in Florence, AL for a wedding and I was looking up things to do in the area when I came across this Frank Lloyd Wright house, the only structure designed by Wright in the state of Alabama. We didn't get to go inside, as we went early on a Sunday morning and they did not open until 1, but it was still cool to see the outside and take some pictures. It is definitely a unique sight compared with the architecture of other homes on the street! I would recommend going during business hours and taking the tour, as you can see some of the original furniture designed by Wright. Cool thing to do if you're in the area! read more
