Found this bbq place while visiting Geneva during Memorial day weekend. The place is on a quaint side street which was closed off to cars to allow for outdoor seating. A live band was also playing on the block. We arrived just before the crowds and were seated in their outdoor area up front. For entrees I got the short ribs with a side of "Texas caviar" a salad of corn, beans, peppers, avocado, plus cornbread. The meat was tender and house bbq sauce was tasty. My hub got the dinosaur shank (giant pork shank), which he liked. For the kids, I got them the pulled pork tacos. Unfortunately, it was so spicy they couldn't eat it, but instead ate the side of Mac and cheese and some of my dish. We told the server it was too spicy for them, but all she offered was for us to look for something else on the menu and stated that it indicates the tacos are spicy on the menu. My expectation was for them to offer to replace the dish, but it didn't happen. I let it go. They liked the M&C anyway. Overall, a nice meal in a chill and relaxed setting. read more

I do wish more of their sides were dairy free, but I totally understand that they want the best flavor! The meat and everything we got was so good and flavorful. My husband and I came here for dinner after trivia night at Twisted Rail. We were excited to find somewhere open late (they were open until 12a on a Thursday). I ordered the steak salad without peppers, which was very solid. Steak was flavorful and there was a lot of salad vegetables, which was a pleasant surprise. An innovative and colorful approach to BBQ that mostly hits right. I have a few nitpicks about the food and the space it's served in, but the combination of good service, good beer, and an interesting menu made up for it. The start of our experience was that it's apparently a really popular dinner destination, as there was already a 30-minute wait at 4:30pm on a Saturday. Once we got a table, we saw that part of the reason is the poor use of space in the interior. It seemed to have a small number of tables and an awkward layout. Regardless it was comfortable seating and a stainless steel/bbq stand sort of look. It was also dimly lit, apart from the lamps over the tables, and we liked that. Perhaps also if someone opens a BBQ restaurant it just gets mobbed. They had a good-ranging draft beer list, from PBR to white chocolate raspberry stout and everything in-between. Their food menu was interesting in two ways. It told a little story for each item, and also there were several very unusual, interesting options. My wife and I chose the BBQ pork shanks and the pork belly sandwich. The shank meat fell right off the bone, and the pork belly texture, no kidding, was like fine foie gras. I was not as pleased with the sides. They were just okay. The mac and cheese was good, but the apple cole slaw and Texas caviar were bland. Perhaps my fault to expect incredible flavors from these things in February. Also, it wasn't exactly clear at first that I could've asked for a different sauce on the pork. The standard sauce was good though. The meat itself was just a tad dry and bland, despite falling off the bone. I enjoyed it anyway. I suspect this place would be better to try outside of the dinner rush for a while. Neat concept. read more

As always I appreciate a new restaurant in Geneva- the transformation on this space was done really well. It's not super large so it can get packed quick. It feels kid friendly but there is not a kids menu. There is a respectable draft beer selection. My husband loves the grilled chicken wings. I'm a huge fan of brisket. The brisket here is not like anything I've had. It's sweet and already comes covered in sauce. I would not call it a traditional brisket and won't order again. That is a MUST try I have had my fair share and the crisp with the Buffalo sauce was amazing I had the brisket that just melted in my mouth and just enough hot from the bbq. Stopped by during s business trip. Since I was dining alone, I sat at the bar. The greeter warmly said Frank would be happy to take care of me. I was the first to be seated at the bar with a clear view into the busy kitchen. Every table was full. Always s good sign especially on a relatively new establishment. I learned the rusty pig had only been open 2 months. People came to the bar to order drinks while they waited for their table. A few stayed to order dinner. Frank offered a tasting of what was on tap. I tasted the lemon obf which was good. I then tried a passion pool sour Which was tasty and I thought might pair nicely with BBQ. I ordered Kevs brisket with Mac n cheese. It came with a side of "caviar " which was corn beans I was hoping the green wasn't cilantro as I usually find it distasteful. Fortunately. If it was it didn't overpower. The mixture was good. The brisket had good flavor and in some cases tasted like bacon. The sauce was on heat filled which I like and it went well with the creamy Mac n cheese. The experience was enhanced by a friendly local couple who sat next to me and the lady shared she'd been there a few nights earlier with her girlfriends. I ended up here after the Rocky horror picture show because I was hungry. I was pleasantly surprised with the server, the attitude and the delicious burger that I got at a place called the Rusty pig! Lol. I would definitely come back here again Do know that if you're a person who likes to add extra pickles and extra extras, they did charge me for extra pickles. This doesn't bother me because I understand the cost of restaurants and food.
