Not just all the the Locales (local alesgeddit) that you can get from the pump, but also the amazing blurred selection of bottles in the fridges (the blurring, my own fault for being too vain to wear my glasses out on a Saturday nightI'll have to come back with them on) and perry (called perry) on tap. They even have my favourite smoked beerbut were out of it during my visit. Luckily there were many other as yet untried options for me to consider. I had a couple of very decent ales. I didn't realize that this pub had received so many CAMRA awards until I was actually sitting there, enjoying my pint and reading the local CAMRA pamphlet. Good work, because the pub doesn't look like much from the outside. Dodgy, ugly, wornare all adjectives I could imagine being used to describe its external appearance, but then appearances can most definitely be deceptive. There are a couple of separate bar rooms and a small outside area (very empty in the driving rain that night). The do gigs here too.

The place really has character to it, and I have to say, regarding the copious amounts of wooden beams holding the ceiling up, it feels as thought the inside of the building should be listed as some sort of relic. The punters who drink here are also very old-worldy, and I always feel like I've stepped back in time when I've gone inside. I really love the selection of drinks sold here, and I usually buy a few different glasses of wine. But it's not any old wine, flavours range from strawberry to cherry to elderflower to plum to dandelion to nettle. I'm yet to try the nettle, next time eh! But all the ones I've tried so far have been very delicious, rich and strong! One thing that's very annoying about this pub is the opening times. Everything is very hazy, because the Griffin states that it closes at lunch times, but then seems to open whenever it feels like it. I've tried to go there at 3pm, 4pm and 5pm and it's been closed. Surely they should be open the majority of the day to bring in drinkers.

The draught beer was tasty but it didn't beat the people there. We met some amazing people that actually talked about our friends who were interns at our company before us. Very friendly staff and has a cozy atmosphere. Made friends with the landlady, Jackie, and I expect we'll see her again very soon. On a side note, though they don't offer any food, you can walk with your drink to the next door restaurant, Balti Tower. That's an entirely different review in itself, but that restaurant was also amazing, and I'm glad the two are affiliated with each other. At first we were skeptical judging by the very few people at the bar, but I wouldn't have wanted our first pub experience to be anywhere else but here. Cheers.

Not only is the décor rustic and immediately appealing and cozy; the real ale selection is excellent, the staff friendly, and the prices moderate. You simply won't find a better place to relax in the city centre. Just my luck: A day after my visit they were going to launch on their in-house beer festivals - the preparations for which looked very promising indeed. The beers on tap I tried (3) were all fresh and crisp, and there's no doubt in my mind that the rest were, too. Like many old pubs, The Old Windmill is divided into several sections of varying size, so you can have a quiet pint (or three), too. All in all, a first-rate place for CAMRA members and other lovers of real ale. Traditional pub food is available.

As we found a comfortable spot to settle in, even the local card players welcomed us. Chatting with Andy from the side of the bar, he made sure to engage the rest of the locals as they spilled in for the afternoon football matches. Never have I enjoyed the company of strangers as I did that day (especially considering that we stopped in for a pint and found ourselves there for 6 six hours)

One of Coventry's hidden gems…read more Lots of uni students walk past it every day and don't even know it's there! Wonderful stained glass windows, and a great log-fiery smell as you walk in. It's very higgledy piggledy and has a few cute little nookie holes to tuck yourself away in. Real ales, bar snacks, and often sandwiches are available. Very atmospheric - and every time I pay a visit, there are always the same few quirky locals knocking about! Very enjoyable little characteristic bar that attracts as equally as interesting clientele (:
