I been wanting to come here after reading a much of the good reviews! I went in the morning and found that this place is by the airport. It wasn't too hard to find since it's in the front of the street. Walking up, I noticed wood boards on their door and window. Wonder what happened?!.. they had some seating in there but nobody was in there. I walked up and rang the bell for service since everyone was in the back. Their menu is simple and I already knew what I wanted but next time ima come try their spring rolls. I went with their special banh mi and asked for it to be spicy. The sandwich was pretty fat. First bite and I noticed how much I loved the bread!! This is one of thee best banh mi bread I had in town. It was soft but still firm enough to hold everything in. The meats tasted like it was made in house. I assume they made the cold cuts on their own rather then buy at the store cus it tasted really really good! Spice level it wasn't that spicy but I just added my favorite chili oil in it and it made it 10x better. The sandwich alone tho was one of the best I have tasted in town. No lie. They put a good amount of pickled carrots and daikon & greens. Good amount of pate and mayo too. I would come back fs fs, for the sandwich and to try the spring rolls. Well executed Bahn Mi that provides a tasty balance of flavor and freshness! With the bar set high, my husband and I are on a quest to find the best Bahn Mi in Fresno and we both agree that the Sandwich Shoppe is currently in the lead! We split the Grilled pork Bahn Mi, which was plenty for the two us. Pork was well seasoned but not heavy and was complimented by the fresh veges. Perfect Bahn Mi bread provides a delightful crunch with each bite, while staying soft inside and the Sandwich Shoppe nailed it! There was plenty of seating inside and service was both friendly and efficient. My husband, who is not a fan of overly sweet drinks, also ordered the Vietnamese iced coffees and found it a bit too sweet. Ah The Sandwich Shoppe, a delicatessen right? Wrong. It's a place where the stars of the show are Vietnamese sandwiches (aka Banh Mi), Spring Rolls and Smoothies. I have my "Go To" for Banh Mi but a recommendation from a coworker had me seek out this hidden joint surrounded by office space, close to the Fresno Yosemite Airport. Service: I was advised to call in advance as I was told the place can get busy during the lunch hour. After a short 10 minute drive from work, I was greeted by what seems to be a two man show (husband and wife perhaps). She cashiered and made the drinks while the husband was in charge of making the Banh Mi. My order was in the process of being wrapped when I picked it up. 5 of 5 stars. Food/Offering: I placed an order for the Combo (Ham, Meat Loaf and Pork Sausage). The comparable is like #12 at Huong Lan. For an additional $1, you can upgrade the Pork Sausage to Pork Belly. For this visit I had just the Combo. As far as the sandwhich goes, the meatloaf was different compared to other banh mi places, it had like fat around the edges and sliced - I liked it and was a first for me. There was hot sauce layered on the sandwhich as well. I'm not a fan of jalapenos on my banh mi and did tell the lady ahead of time "to not include anything that was spicy". The gentleman did disclose that they normally add this to the 'wiches and that it wasn't that spicy. He offered to remake my 'which but I declined and took his word; yeah it wasn't really THAT spicy but on my next order I will have to think really hard if I want it or not. I can eat spicy food but my gut sometimes whispers to me "what the heck is wrong with you". Don't get me wrong, the sauce was really good and is from the company that produces sriracha (but not quite to that level). That french bread though was REALLY good, buttery and not hard on the ends like others. 5 of 5 stars Overall: The place is small but very clean with a limited menu, like In and Out if you will. A gem of a place and an unknown to most. They do have a tent sign on the street to make it easy for you to find it but if not, google/apple maps is your friend. The veggies were also at the peak of freshness. I swear the cilantro was just picked! If you are looking for ambiance, this is not the place. It's basically a shell located amidst a bunch of charter school buildings with patio furniture and folding chairs. The owners of this shop were really nice and friendly. My husband and I got three sandwiches: the Chard Shou (BBQ Pork), Chicken, and Combo. They were all pretty good for our first time coming here. I also got a Black Milk Tea and it was really good once it fully chilled and was watered down with the ice (since it was really sweet at first). I do still prefer Huong Lan for Banh Mis but I could see myself coming here if I don't want to drive far. read more

First time trying this spot. This place has been gaining attraction among the Facebook community. Everyone raves that this is the place for banh mi. I got the grilled pork banh mi. It was good. But the owner notified me after that it wasn't the correct bread. I think that's what he said. I wasn't really a fan of the replacement bread. But I do have to say that the contents inside were delicious. Good ratio of meat to bread. If it was the correct bread I would give this a 5/5 but since it wasn't 3/5. I was really hoping for the crunchy, crusty bread. The grilled pork spring roll, i think this is a very good spring roll. But the wrapper was kinda chewy. This made me think it was premade. But besides the chewiness of the wrapper, the pork was super flavorful. And they provided three whole slices, other places will definitely skimp out on this. But for $8 and three big rolls. Definitely worth it. But the best part of this was the sauce. One of the best peanut sauces I've had in Fresno. Other places either water it down or don't season the sauce enough. It was delicious. Not a fan of the hot sauce they provide though. Sour. (I know there's a shortage of huy fong) but it needed the huy fong sambal. But regardless 4/4 Service was good. Nothing to complain about. I came here a few weeks ago and was surprised to see that the past sandwich shop had sold their business but was happy to see the new menu of Vietnamese sandwiches and the kind staff member who greeted me. He informed me that everything is made fresh daily and that the bread comes from a nearby bakery. I ordered the chicken banh mi and the combination banh mi. I could tell each was fresh and carefully crafted. I actually don't like that much meat so next time I might ask for light meat and more veggies, but everything was delicious. The coconut smoothie with boba was also very fresh and tasty, and also very big. The portions are generous and I'm glad I found this place. Hope to support them and share the business to my friends and family nearby! This was such a pleasant stop. My husband and I took a road trip which had us driving through Fresno, and I'm so thankful we were able to stop here for our to-go meals. This is located within a charter school so I felt like I was walking through the school in order to get there (middle corridor, closer to the street). There are plenty of seating space and simple ambiance. But oddly, that usually gives me a hint that with a high rating a modest ambiance, this is surely going to be a good hole-in-the-wall establishments (my favorite kind!). We ordered two grilled chicken Banh mi with shrimp rolls and unfortunately I have no pictures because IT WAS SO GOOD. The veggies were clearly fresh without any signs of browning in any of our sandwiches. The chicken had so much flavor and wasn't dry at all for being grilled. The bread was toasted to perfection. And if you're like me, I liked how spicy it was - the jalapeños were SO fresh and gave a pretty good kick. Also, we should've just split one because the portions were so large that half filled us both up. The shrimp rolls were also packed and so fresh. The peanut sauce was simple yet so flavorful and not watered down at all. Overall, I highly, HIGHLY recommend. Also because they were so sweet, packed it fresh, and deserve to stay in business. This place is amazing and I'm glad my friend brought me here. It is inside a little plaza where other businesses are so I guess you can say it is a cool little hole in the wall. The sandwiches are very good and a decent size. It is way bigger than ones I have had in SanFran. The drinks are also pretty good, standard boba drinks. I have never had the spring rolls but they look very good so I assume they are. The service is very good, the people are very nice and the wait is not that long at all. This shop is unassuming and a little oddly located within a charter high school that's a collection of one story buildings. Fortunately, they have a sandwich board sign out by the sidewalk, so we knew we were in the right place - it's in the building closest to the street. Owners were very nice and efficient in taking our orders. We got a grilled chicken banh mi, combo with pork belly, and spring rolls with shrimp. Everything was delicious! Ingredients tasted fresh (the lettuce in the spring roll was nice and crisp), the bread was crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, peanut and chili sauces had great flavor, and all the ingredients just came together really nicely. SO also got the ice milk coffee and I thought that was just ok, but I'm also not a coffee drinker, so you should take my opinion with a grain of salt.... One time they mess up my boba milk tea, they fix the problem by making me another one, I told them that's ok, I still like my drink, they insisted to make me a new drink I originally ordered.
