No concern, no resources offered, no attempt to help vulnerable animals that clearly needed care. I understand shelters can be overwhelmed, but telling someone to return tiny kittens to a wet parking lot is unacceptable and incredibly disappointing from an organization that's supposed to protect animals. I left feeling frustrated and heartbroken for those kittens. If you advertise yourselves as an animal care, there should at least be some compassion, guidance, or willingness to help in situations like this.

Last night, she got up from laying down and was hopping, using only two legs. Yesterday was Easter Sunday and I left a message about the deer. By 8am, a sweet woman called back and said a warden would come see the deer today. By noon, Deputy Mastin was here, evaluating the deer. Deputy Mastin said she was using three legs today! He said she can definitely survive like that. He was wonderful to talk with. I wasn't able to sleep at all last night, thinking of the deer suffering. Even if we already have dogs, we will make room for one more, because the shelter is over-full; or because the dog is deteriorating there; or even because the dog is sick and needs a place to convalesce. (Those of you shopping for dogs like they are merchandise may be surprised by this. Yes, people deliberately take home old and sick dogs!). This does make it harder to adopt the dogs in fosters, but *it is better for the dog*. It also allows for a bit of distance between abusers and dogs. Post Script for people who want only bred dogs: read about inbreeding, and then if you still want a dog with genetic problems, go pay a breeder.

At the Cincinnati-area SPCAs, the dogs are living in absolute filth and squalor, and their health is not being attended to. They are giving them away at shocking, irresponsibly low prices, which I suppose they have to when their vet bills will be...who knows how high. As much as I want to rescue these babies, I don't have the time, energy, or expertise, but Sweet Dream House Rescue does. They are not breed-specific; they rescue dogs of all sizes and ages and get them in good health before adopting them out. The dogs also live with fosters instead of in a kennel, so the rescue organization has a good idea of what their temperament is. While our little guy was still at the end of his recovery from some skin issues when we adopted him, they were very up-front with us about it and provided us with the last of his medication and a contact in case his problems continued, in which case they assured us they would take them to their vet. As it turned out, his skin issues were and remain resolved, but I feel confident that if we had had issues, they would have taken care of him. The other reason we chose Dream House is their foster-to-adopt program. My husband is a musician, so it was important to us to find a dog who didn't mind the various funny loud sounds in our household. This can be kind of hard to predict without experience - even a dog who is ok with sirens and alarms sometimes isn't ok with sustained, strange noises they've never heard before. I reached out to another rescue organization who wasn't particularly understanding about this. Dream House was also very helpful in helping us find a dog who would be okay living in 1-bedroom, downtown apartment - despite what another review said about this, they weren't judgmental at all, but rather genuinely invested in finding the RIGHT dog for us. While their fee is slightly higher than some other organizations in town, you get what you pay for. We were given a full bag of high-quality dog food and treats, heartworm and flea medication, various pet store freebies, and, most importantly, a healthy, happy dog. (An important note: they are no longer cash/check only!)

Owners are very nice. The workers are not caring like blue ridge kennel or even the hospital that took over. Our dog came back dirty and with kennel cough. My wife was appalled at the workers. They didnt care and told her so. The place was closed when she came to pickup the dog even though it was 10am. The dog was dying to go to the bathroom when she got home. He wouldnt eat for days. The worker made a comment about this being just a job. She came a few days in advance to fill out the paperwork. When she checked in the person had no clue and it was the same person. The other reviews are obviously from friends.

I switched my Great Dane, Bucky, over to glenway when he was about 6 months old because of a trusted referral. After dealing with this practice for almost a year now, I've learned that their staff is the most uneducated and unprofessional bunch (with the exception of Dr. Cron) I've ever encountered. Here's just a few reasons why: - I took Bucky in for his neutering and gastropexy. While stepping on the scale, his tail accidentally knocked over a treat jar sitting on a side table next to it. Colleen, one of the horribly rude office ladies, responded with "ugh, it's ruined" rather than a normal response of no big deal, he's a big dog, things happen. - Prior to even bringing him in that day, I was given incorrect pre-op instructions prior to Buckys neutering and gastropexy which led to an incredibly stressful experience for him. Their response? Sedate him until he cannot move with morphine and ketamine, without my consent. Their next move? THEY ASK US TO CARRY OUR 130 POUND DOG TO THE PROCEDURE ROOM AS HE IS CRYING, UNABLE TO STAND UP OR MOVE, AND I AM ALSO CRYING. The most traumatizing and upsetting experience I've ever had at any vet practice. Prior to his sedation, I asked Dr. Hobbie to come in the room and greet him/pet him/ give him a treat to calm his nerves. Her response? Goes to get a muzzle, comes back and knocks on the door (why the hell would you do that? That's the best way to make any dog bark. Like I said - uneducated), slowly crack open the door and drop muzzles in and asks me to muzzle Bucky. Zero effort to just walk in the room and treat him like any other dog. Keep in mind - no one has ever told me that Bucky has been aggressive, hostile, needs to be muzzled, etc. So on top of the trauma, I was also completely caught off guard as to why they were acting this way. After 10 mins of me struggling to muzzle Bucky because he was terrified and never had something like that before, Dr. Cron came in to help. They then gave him the sedation I mentioned above and he fell to the floor. Dr. Hobbie later called after his procedure and admitted they responded the way they did due to his size and "loud bark". THIS IS A VETERINARY PRACTICE! They have employed vets and technicians who don't know how to properly interact with a large breed dog, who barks? Insane. - I was very skeptical to leave him there for his surgery after all of this, but I trusted he would be in good hands with Dr. Hobbie as this was the first time I had seen her act so unprofessional. Terrible mistake. When I went to pick Bucky up, we walked back to the kennel area with Dr. Hobbie to get him. When we get to the kennel, we noticed Bucky still had his poker collar on while in the kennel, on sedatives, and UNSUPERVISED. Any competent human, let alone a veterinary professional, knows that it is incredibly dangerous to leave a dog unsupervised with a choke collar on as it could cause serious damage or kill them if it were to get caught on something. - The final cherry on top: I called to get buckys records and a refill of his medicine as we are now transferring practices. Michelle called and asked for feedback on why we were leaving. I explained all of the above concerns to her and she did not apologize, ask any clarifying details, or show any sign of sympathy, remorse, or concern for what had occurred. Before any of this happened, we had a pretty decent experience. Bucky had been there on multiple other occasions and never had a problem, probably because we primarily saw Dr. Cron. He was the only one who helped us and clearly the only one who was not intimidated by a large dog. Mind you - Bucky lives with 2 girls, 2 mini weiner dogs, and his best friend is a 4 year old boy next door. He couldn't be intimidating even if he tried. All that to say, if you are ever in a situation where Glenway Animal Hospital is your only choice, you are better off not seeing a vet at all unless you are guaranteed you will only work with Dr. Cron. Good news - Covedale pet hospital is just a few mins away and is a great alternative. Bucky goes there now and has zero problems!

The medicine I was given was labeled TBD ear solution. I called the next morning to find out the name of it. I was told I was being rude for asking. Then they put the doctor on the phone who was rude, condescending and wouldn't give me the name of the med. I finally said I just want to know the name of the antibiotic. I finally got that plus another lecture about how rude I am for asking. NEVER going back!

My dogs have been cared for by Happy Paws for 10 years now and they always provide excellent and…read moreprofessional service. I use them for dog walking and for overnight stays. Their employees clearly love caring for pets. My assigned "Pet Pal" dog walkers all know my dogs personally, as does the owner. Whenever anything has gone awry while I'm away the owner has always called me and managed the issue personally. When one of my dogs had a medical issue while I was out of town, they took him to the urgent care vet and stayed with him the whole time while he got treatment while keeping me updated, then took him back again the next day for his check up. I really appreciate that their "Pet Pals" send an update with photos every time they see the dogs.

I took my elderly cat to LAH for several months bc he was acting out of character. Meowing a lot…read more Staring at walls. He was unable to jump. First vet told me he was crying in pain and recommended Silencia (cat arthritis med). It worked great for two months, but my cat didn't seem to benefit from the 3rd shot. He continued to decline. Not really moving. Except to go the bathroom or drink water or eat. And he meowed a lot. In a cat fight kind of voice. I could tell he was distressed. I took him back on 2-9. Vet gave ear drops for an ear infection. My cat had lost a lot of weight. Vet said to do blood tests. Tests came back and she called me and read the results back to me. But the numbers meant nothing to me but she kept reading. She suggested that I get another antibiotic "just in case" and to change his food to one that they sell. She was devoid of empathy. And at one point I said, "we love our cat, we don't want to keep him alive if he's in pain or his quality of life is poor." I was looking for guidance. She said nothing and resumed reading her test results. The following week his abdomen was greatly distended. And he was having trouble moving. I took him back to LAH. Front desk was super kind. No vets there Bc They don't start until later in the morning. Vet tech (also very kind) checked his vitals and said she couldn't diagnose, but she said he was very sick. She recommended Grady Animal Hospital for treatment. GAH told me he had a large mass in his liver. The mass pushed his organs out of their regular position. His heart was enlarged bc the heart had to work so hard bc of the organ positioning. They recommended euthanasia. LAH was incredibly dismissive of my concerns. And they missed this large liver mass which could actually be palpated. My cat needlessly suffered for months bc these vets wrote him off as an old "cranky" cat and none of them really listened to my concerns about his behavior or quality of life. We would never have made him suffer this long had we known how sick he really was.
