I found this amazing gem of a book and vinyl shop mostly second hand, by accident. Boy it was the best "accident" I have come across in a long time.
The shop is well presented, not overly cluttered but certainly not sparse. I purchased a long black, (sadly the coffee machine went to greener pastures but you are welcome to BYO),and started to wander, building a wish list that would keep me in books for a year.
I found the prices very competitive and you get the feel that the place is run by passion and love rather than cold business sense and high profit. Two boys run the place and a third works there part time but also has the passion of an owner.
The staff are at first, what kept me coming back. You are welcomed with a big genuine smile. No matter what my inquiry is, they always make me feel like I am the most important person in the shop at that time. It is rare to get that type of service, yet alone from young lads, (young to a 45 yr lass).
The other winning factor for me is that the boys are not "scared" to push the boundaries of what is and is not "hip" in a Fitzroy book/vinal shop. Unlike the competitors, the shop stocks the expected, the rare but also a good variety of books on most subjects. To me this is important - Yes I go there for the hip stuff, but I can also find books on more general topics, What topics you ask, Go check out the place and let us know through Yelp.
To surmise, if you love books, records, finding a rare bargain, knowledgeable and friendly staff, then please allow yourself a Saturday or Sunday morning to get lost in this amazing gem. Make sure you have plenty of time and a tiny amount of coin. Honestly that is all you will need. If you are in a hurry, go straight to the staff - If they don't have it they will ensure they get it in for you. read more
