AMAZING!!! As far as I remember this place has won pub food…read moreof the year ever year since Ive lived in the area. Super tasty quality food, I noticed that on the menu it even tells you which farm the meat came from, or where the ice cream was made etc. The Greek Lamb and the Gammon are both brilliant. The portions are huge and I'm always left with enough food for another meal but save room for the Holly Bush sundae because you wont ever have a such a selection of tasty locally made ice cream :) The prices are great too, last time I went it was around 30quid for the 2 of us.

What a cracking find. The place had real character and even for a Monday lunchtime was very well patronised. No wonder. The service was excellent; the young chap behind the bar was extremely welcoming and was great with our 2 year-old granddaughter (note: child friendly, although a few high chairs would have been a bonus). The food was well prepared and far more than we could eat. The menus were extensive and provided good value for money. A nice little touch was having the menus pasted into the insides of different books, guides, reference books and even story books for the kids. Overall, a pleasant experience. If we are in the Chester area in the future, we will certainly be back, and I suggest if you, the reader of this review are near there, you give it a try, too; you won't regret it.

The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The food is well presented, good portion sizes and always tastes great. Families are most welcome and once you have your table it is yours for the night. The beer is well kept and the pub itself is decorated well and always clean and tidy but has a real local pub feel especially with the roaring real fire and pleasant garden.

I order the 10oz dry aged steak and it was very good. Many other dishes were ordered and no complaints were heard. On the contrary, many compliments were given. The fish and chips were massive. We were on a trip down to 'Fords of Winsford' to buy a new car and having to build up the strength to battle the 1500 cars on offer, we decided a big fat lunch had to be on the agenda! Think country inn food and you're not far off, with all sorts of pub classics like steak and kidney pudding (which my wife had and was amazing), fish and chips and more. I went for the steakburger which was tasty but that was at the 2nd attempt - the first one that they brought out was stone cold (I'd asked for it medium but this looked like it had come straight out of the fridge and onto the plate. Thankfully the manager was very good and replaced it straightaway, giving us a couple of free soft drinks as an apology. Personally - I don't think this 2nd burger was cooked massively well (but I couldn't be arsed saying anything 2nd time around) and the chef could do with maybe hitting somewhere like Manchester's Filthy Cow burger joint to see how to cook it well but juicy and the pink in the middle... Besides the burger situ and my wife and myself having to eat our meals separately I'm still giving this place a 4 star as it was a great menu, surroundings and has friendly staff.

I used to work in Chester a while back and was well aware of this hidden gem nestled in the picturesque Cheshire countryside. It was great to return last week whilst playing cricket at the adjacent Oulton Park cricket club. Only about half an hour away from Manchester this is a perfect spot to come for some lunch/dinner on your way back from Chester. Alternatively if you're a a petrol head like me, with Oulton park racing circuit just around the corner it can also act as a perfect pitstop on your way back after a few laps. Have yet to try the food but won't be long until that's rectified because the menu looks sensational. Highlights from it include the following. Pizza; 'The special one' (Goat's cheese, caramelised onions, rocket). Burger; 'The special one' (Cheese, beer soaked onions, gerkins, garlic mayo, special sauce, lettuce tomato relish) A special mention also for the Artisanal French cured meat platter (Yes that's as posh as it sounds) A selection of house charcuterie and paté from La Boucherie Candotto in South West France. In terms of drinks, not being a massive beer fan the only thing that stood out from the cocktail menu was 'The Egerton Refresher'. With Gin, home made marmalade, Mint, Elderflower and Pressed Apple Juice it looks right up my street.

The staff were all very welcoming, and we were all really impressed with the friendly, efficient service. The menu was full of English comfort foods...and they executed everything beautifully. Just look at my photos to get an idea...I tried the goats cheese and caramelised onion strudel, which came balanced on potatoes and perfect ratatouille. If you ever find yourself in this part of the country, it is definitely worth popping in here for some lunch! *Pro tip: It sounded like they get very booked up in the evening, so ring ahead to ensure you get a table!!

The plates were huge and the meal was very hot and well cooked, again home made quality food. There was no offers on like 2 meals for £10 but the meals ranged from £8 - £14. There was a good variety to select including vegetarian meals and childrens meals. The pub is large and lots of oak tables and oak beams very country feel to it. The stamford Inn has a large carpark outside and is just situated of the A56 from chester near to helsby/tarvin. The staff were friendly and polite. Quick service. I cant fault it one bit all meals arrived quickly & all together considering we as individual couples all ordered separately. There is a large pub garden out the back and drinks aren;t pricey either. Very highly recommended.

It has less of a pub feel than the Pant and its layout is much more that of a restaurant however the Lion still has a more casual atmosphere than a traditional restaurant and there is a big area for kids to run about outside. With regular themed nights, a good selection of fresh fish and some of the best cooked steaks I've eaten, the Lion makes for a good meal out. My only minor gripe with the Golden Lion is that I went there once and the family next to us had brought thier kids a dvd player to entertain them. They say at the table watching and listening to tweenies at full blast. When did it become acceptable to bring booming audio equptment to a restraunt? Want went through the parents minds? Anyway, I way disappointed they they wern't turfed out of the pub. Instead we asked to be moved and got a better table. Well done the golden Lion.
