Whenever I'm in Dublin, I take the opportunity to stay at the Shelbourne. The history that is captured in this building undoubtedly warrants it the most unique hotel in Dublin. If you come prepared, they have a concierge and a genealogist on site to help you find your ancestors from Ireland. Many famous people and politicians have stayed in these walls as well. That said, this was a truly special time of year when they're getting ready for Christmas! They took such care and were meticulous with their decorations. It was delightful to come home to each evening. Experience: 1. They will tidy your room everyday 2. Turn down service begins around 6 pm (they will get your slipper, robe, bed, water and chocolate ready for nighttime) 3. Their small guest room includes a king size bed that is superbly fluffy. 4. The deluxe guest room has a deep tub for soaking Staff: The entire front desk staff is very helpful, welcoming and efficient. Marta was especially helpful and kind throughout my stay! As for the porters were just right with their assistance. I did always feel bad that I had not gotten any Euro on my trip, but I will mention Karl was fantastic! Always helpful and nice to talk with. Michele in the health center was informative and helped me find all of the rooms for their current gym as it's under renovation. Facilities: They have a 5 star spa on site that includes one of the best relaxation rooms I have experienced in the world. It's the view and seating that make it amazing. They give you a blanket, fruit, spa water -- all while looking over st. Stephen's park... bliss! (I went on a rainy day which added to the ambiance) The facial with Elemis product was my favorite. PRO TIP! if you're from the states and liked Elemis, there is now an Elemis outlet store at Kildare Village, which is a short train ride away. I made it there in 35 minutes. DINING: Again, 5 star experience and the restaurant is always packed. Chef makes superb food and I thoroughly enjoyed the room service of fish and chips. TONS of fish, perfectly battered and fried. This was a tough one to rate. We stayed two separate times during our trip. The first visit was five stars plus. Service amazing, room beautiful, food fantastic. The second time we visited service was so disappointing. Honestly 1.5 stars maybe only two. The front counter gentleman that checked me in was argumentative when I was asking a question. He was wildly condescending and actually huffed at me several times and said I didn't understand regarding the breakfast credit. I was just confirming it was the same as when we stayed a week and a half before. We were told we were in a room with a view. The view was a building where we were level and somewhat close to an office and could see people working at their computers. What a fantastic stay at the best hotel in Dublin. It was a flawless experience from start to finish. The only hiccup was our early check-in, which didn't happen. The hotel: nice sized rooms, well-appointed and beautifully decorated for the holidays. It was also quiet in the rooms, but common areas were always crowded and it was nearly impossible to get into the bars and restaurants later in the week. They said this time of year is when they get more local traffic, and since their bars and restaurants are small, it makes it hard to go relax over a drink and appetizers. Luckily, they have a residence lounge, which was mostly available except for one night when it was closed for a private event. We took advantage of the residence lounge (1824 Bar) but note they don't offer food, just table nibbles like crackers. We were in room 661 and the view was meh. We had to keep our curtains closed because we were right by an office building and could see people working. To be honest, we were so close if their monitors were turned we might've been able see what they were working on. The staff: We ate breakfast at the hotel in The Saddle room and the service staff was top notch, very attentive and professional. Several times we enjoyed drinks and oysters at No. 27 The Shelbourne Bar and service was generally good. As I mentioned, later in the week it became impossible to get in. The 1824 Bar staff was a highlight of our week and we visited nearly every night. The maid service and turndown was stealth in the very best way. We also asked for ice and it was delivered in short order. For the maids we left tips to thank them for their service. The food: everything we ate at the restaurants and bars was really tasty with the highlight being their oysters. A letdown was their lobster, which was over cooked and very chewy. That was the only bad thing we had. The breakfast buffet was pretty sizable and you can order off the menu if you wanted something like eggs Benedict or an omelette. We were booked under The Shelbourne experience so breakfast was included with our stay. I also ordered a few of their blended juices, which weren't included in the breakfast so paid out of pocket. They were really good blends! As far as value for the amount we paid for our stay, I felt the prices were fair for the service and experience. I'd book this hotel again and again. Other hotels should send staff to The Shelbourne to see how it's done and what great service looks like. read more

Superior Service, Location and, yes, Value We have stayed at multiple top hotels in Dublin over the years. I'm kicking myself for not starting at the Shelbourne. The suites we had at the Shelbourne combined with its central location and overall hospitality were incredible. As good as the hotel is, I believe it is an even better value than its marketing conveys. One example - the breakfast offered in the Saddle Room is the best hotel guest breakfast I have had. Even though it is buffet style, everything is fresh and of superior quality. The food is served right where multiple chefs are preparing and cooking the items. I've been here many times but this year I decided to spend Christmas here with my family. 5 days. Would I do it again for Christmas yes but I'd change the dates slightly. The food is great but the junior staff have to work so in the main bar and restaurant it was slow and chaotic for no reason. My photos are self explanatory. My daughter wanted to try an authentic tea experience while we were on holiday and we couldn't have been more pleased with the Shelbourne's version. The dining room in which it is served is sun-filled and lovely. The tea sandwiches and desserts were delicious and plentiful as they would bring more upon simply asking; and the presentation was unsurpassed, as the desserts were not only delectable, but also exquisite. The woman dining next to us said she had just had afternoon tea at a well-known location in Paris the previous week and the Shelbourne was far better. I was in town for business and decided to extend my stay and see a friend who popped over from the UK. I always believe you only live once and checked myself into the Shelbourne. This is an historic hotel that has hosted previous dignitaries and is across from St. Stephens Green. It's not far from lots of things to see. The rooms are nicely sized and there was enough room for me to work and also had decent internet speed. The weather was meh and my friend and I had breakfast in the hotel - meals were great and we also had lunch there one afternoon as it poured. I love fish and chips and mushy peas and it was truly delightful. Next time I'm in town, I'll do the same. Extend my stay and check myself into the Shelbourne. read more

We were in Dublin for one night at the end of our Ireland trip and staying at the Shelbourne was a splurge - kind of, we booked it on point via the Marriott Bonvoy app! Loved everything about this hotel from the history, architecture, service, floral arrangements, restaurants and bars. Location couldn't be more central and perfect. I have also posted a review about how fantastic the ladies at the spa are for my pedicure. Our king suite was very comfortable - although the a/c was either freezing or off (no in between). Unsure what we were overlooking as we were the 2nd from highest floor - possibly a courtyard but our view was the other side of the building. Breakfast had a nice variety of foods. No. 27 bar has a great ambience and was always lively. I've already posted a review about the Horseshoe Bar and how amazing Nicholas is. Cons: Denis the concierge is useless. When we arrived, I realized the flight attendant forgot to return my jacket she checked so I asked Denis if he might be able to assist. He wasn't very confident and said he would "text his friend who works for the airline." We also asked if he wouldn't mind booking tee times at a golf course, which he never did. I ended up contacting the airline myself and they delivered to our next destination. Very disappointing considering the level of service I would expect at the Shelbourne. Unfortunately, I can't remember the room # (maybe 7th floor), but our room had a foul smell when we would return later in the day. Almost like sewage or if something died in the walls/vent. The maids clearly noticed as our window was always open upon our return. Despite the cons, it's a lovely hotel and would absolutely come back to stay, particularly if you have status with Marriott. read more

This is probably the best service I have ever received from a hotel. I am a huge fan of Marriott branded hotels and excited that they are merging SPG, because they are my 2nd favorite brand. So when I saw that this particular property was a Renaissance the expectations were already high, but they were blown away. First off, the location is perfect. It's centrally located and right next to the park, plenty of restaurants, and shopping! Every day when you walk into the lobby there are fresh flowers that is very refreshing. As far as the room, it depends on which one you get, unfortunately, ours did not have a view. But the cleaning crew is superb. They came by at least twice a day and sometimes three times a day remaking our bed, changing out towels, refilling shampoo, etc. They even dropped complimentary bottles of water! I couldn't have asked for a better experience. read more

Beautiful hotel and friendly staff. The hallways are narrow and the ceilings on the guest floors are low, which is fine as it's truly an old and historic hotel. The hallways were too warm for me, however, and the scent they pump in to the lobby and reception area is way too strong. The reception, room service, cleaning service, and luggage handlers were all wonderful. There were always guys dressed to the nines standing by the doors talking to each other. I don't know if that was their job or if they're there to greet and help push the door open, but I always seemed to sneak by them without a greeting as they were busy in conversation with each other. The food was good, but it can be challenging to get coffee during busy check out times. We were given free fudge for our late coffee order so it didn't go unacknowledged. It's an expensive hotel which is reflected in the initial presentation, but I seriously would have been thrilled to find a Nespresso maker in my room, as opposed to the poor over tea bag coffee that was there. It's nice having St Stephen's Green right across the way for a beautiful nature walk whenever you want! read more

By European/UK standards*, this was an excellent hotel. The history, the culture, the food, everything was spot on. The hotel employees were professional, warm, and very attentive. They were more than friendly and eager to recommend places to visit. We had breakfast each morning at the Saddle Room and everything was amazing. The food was fresh and plentiful. The light menu options were great as well. The toiletries offered in the room were a let down. Never even heard of the brand and the smells were off putting. I do take a star off for that. It would have been nice to see items that were sourced locally or at least in the UK. I believe these were sourced from easter Europe (or something like that). Considering the price you pay for a room I expected top notch products. The rooms were well maintained and the beds were comfy. Ideal location to get around Dublin. Highly recommend :) *I say UK/European standards because the rooms are very small. We had a room with two "queen" beds and I can assure you they were NOT queen beds. They were full beds. I love this hotel! There's this luxe feeling as you walk through the revolving doors and the doormen greet you. The atrium is filled with fresh colorful flowers and the vibe in the pub just draws you in. Returned this year to the Shelbourne Dublin, a Marriott property, for maybe my 7th stay. Always helpful and friendly staff. When I arrived early from US at 8 am, early-checkin rooms were not available. So was offered complimentary access to the Health Club to shower and change clothes. Then luggage was stored. Room was available by noon, and much appreciated. Room also has one plug for US power. Nice touch. Still helpful that you bring an adapter to use other outlets. Breakfast buffet in the Saddle Room is a standout, but pricy at €29. This is not a Sunday Brunch price, but a daily price. You'll need to take out a loan if you're a family with kids. Lots of fresh fruit options too. Chef even made for me hash potatoes on request. Small Detail That I Enjoy about the Property: You can open your windows and enjoy the Dublin Air. Tip: In the morning, complimentary coffee is offered, but you have to find it hidden in a hallway. Advertised as using Brazilian Arabica beans. Small Gripe: Free Wi-Fi requires constant re-logon. A major annoyance, and technically unnecessary. Others had the same problem, so suspect a stupid policy. There are a couple bars and I was provided some free drink coupons. The hotel bars are quite cozy and a great place to relax with friends. The gym is well equipped and has a pool. We had watched the TV show and knew when we came to Ireland we had to stop in and see it! We were in the middle of a tour of Dublin, been walking all day, not dressed for it, but there we were. We were greeted by the doorman just like any guest would be, amazing! Wanted a drink at the horseshoe bar, but was told it was not open for a few more hours due to being off season. Feel free to go upstairs and have a drink. Service was phenomenal, sat at a table outside in the atrium courtyard, had a Irish coffee and wine. Another bonus was Dennis was there that day, stopped for a chat with him. Told him about watching the show, he asked if we enjoyed it. This is probably one of the most historical and famous hotels in Dublin. The hotel had been closed for a couple of years for renovation, then it re-opened under Renaissance® Hotel (Marriott chain) like 2 years ago. I stayed at the hotel before and after the renovation and was really glad they did it. When I stayed there, it was some cold day and as soon as I walked in, they welcomed me with a cup of apple cider - nice touch. Maybe because of my status with Marriott hotels or something I did not know, but the GM actually came out to greet me in person. My room was rather small, but they provided goodies. See the photos. All the employees are very friendly and nice. One of the best features would be their Club Lounge - you could probably make meals out of what they serve. When I was there, they had crab legs, stone crab claws, prawns, oysters, a couple of salads, some hot dishes, appetizers, cheese, and later tons of dessert dishes showed up. They also provide complimentary wi-fi at the lounge. They also have some nice handmade soaps in the lounge for guests to take home as souvenir. Westin used to be my usual hotel in Dublin, but now I have a tough decision to make. Not to mention, Shelbourne is so close to my favorite Dawson Lounge. :p read more

This "fancy" classic hotel is worth the splurge of using Marriott Rewards points (point to Euro conversion is great) especially if you stay 5 or more nights you can take advantage of the 5th night free. You will be treated with a classic hotel used by many dignitaries and movie stars and royalty (Princess Grace Kelly). The rooms are spacious and well appointed. The service is excellent. Marriott Gold/platinum members enjoy complimentary full Irish breakfast in the Saddle Room restaurant which is a 29 euro per person benefit. The fitness center and spa are nice too. The hotel is nicely located just north / across the street from Stephens Green and easily walkable to all of Dublin City Centre. read more
