We traveled to Clearwater from Michigan. When we got there it was a great time, we played pool and darts and talked with locals and travelers. The pink pussy shot was a hit and we had a couple drinks. Unfortunately a few days later our bank statement was basically double what we know we had. when we went back and approached the situation with the bartender who was there the night we were. Immediately he was very disrespectful because we said "we had a few drinks" and he didn't think 3 drinks and 3 shots between a couple was "a few drinks". For the next few minutes he would argue with us telling us "we have cameras and will dispute with the bank" and he couldn't do anything. Eventually I talked him down and told him I just would like to see if he had a copy of our receipt which he did. We showed him that it was double our bank statement and we did get refunded the money we were overcharged. I just don't think immediately approaching the concern with disrespect is the right choice claiming he's "defending his staff". Other than the 1 very aggressive bartender it was an amazing experience, if you are traveling make sure you check your bank and keep your receipt. read more

I've always been a fan of a dive bar and the The Shipwreck is definitely that! The bar area is pretty small, but the bar is pretty long and there are booths and a few tables along the wall for you to sit and have a few beers. The bartender we had was friendly. They have pool tables on the other side of the bar which were being used while we were there. My friend brought me here to try their, "infamous" pink pussy shot. So naturally we did a shot which was pretty good. Kind of had a watermelon Jolly Rancher flavor to it. The bar has some retro wood paneling on the inside. I feel like everyone has a relative or had a relative who at one time had this paneling in their house. We had one beer each after the shot, because the biggest drawback to the place for me was that you could smoke here and being that the bar isn't that large, the smoke really filled the bar and got overwhelming. Definitely a place I could see myself frequenting if I lived in the area, but I'd have to limit my time there only because of the smoke. I think it's cool that there is a place you can smoke at, because there still are a ton of folks that do, but it's not my thing. read more

Dive bar! I absolutely love this bar. I venture down to Clearwater beach 2x a year for birthday parties (I live in St. Pete)..... this bar is always a must go to on our list. The bartender is super friendly and attentive. The four times I've been there the bartender was amazing.... beers are served in mason jars which is pretty cool. There is a DJ who plays requested music and just the hits. He even let my friend and I do karaoke here one night! There is one or two pool tables, they have that blow me test to see if you should be driving. Bathrooms are super clean. Bar is smokey and dark as I saw in someone else's review. This is for sure a locals bar, but everyone is super friendly and you'll strike new friends in a matter of minutes. Everyone talks to everyone and everyone has an amazing time. This is a dive bar, so don't except some fancy place. The interior is in a pirate type of mode which is pretty cool. They were advertising an 80s party the weekend we went down there, but we didn't make it to the party. I heard it was pretty good though. Good place to stop if you don't want to pay the tourist prices for drinks, and want a chilled laid back night. We usually stay near the Hilton and walk to the bar which is about 15 minutes, and then call the free beach cab to get us back to the main drag. It's a safe walk for sure. read more

Horrible place. They deleted our last review. So here I am. Mouthy bartender cussed out my young friend. She was looking for us and she became worried. So she cracked the door open into the bathroom and yelled is "is so and so in here" the bartender was in there and immediately started screaming about his "penis" nonstop. Even when he was at the bar he would not let it go. He must have been doing coke in the bathroom because he would not stop going on about his little "penis." She kept saying she didn't see anything was just looking for us. He would not calm down. He was throwing a man fit and continued by not serving our drinks and charging us anyway then kicked us out. When he gave us the bill he said don't tip, then aggressively grabbed the bill out of our friends hands and said "actually I'm going to charge you 20% anyway." I have been a bartender for 10 years but now own my own company. I've never had such a weird experience at a bar in my life. He needs to stay away from people, doesn't seem like bartending is a good idea for him. Way too sensitive and just plain weird. read more

I had to make sure I stopped into this place for at least one drink. I took advice from previous yelpers and ordered their signature shot and sparkler show. Pretty cool how they light up a sparkler and ring the bell getting the full attention of everyone in the bar. The shot itself was pretty mild, very fruity. Definitely worth it for the show alone. The only downfall about this place is the strong smell of smoke. It was so bad the the group that walked in before us has to turn around and leave immediately because it was so bad. We visited on a Sunday night, sat at the bar, group of 5. The DJ started well over an hour later than it was supposed to. The DJ plays top 40. I like old country when I'm in a dive bar but that's just me. The place is incredibly clean. Another surprise for a dive bar but it's nice. No paper towels in the bathroom, just a blow dryer. I ended drying my hands on my shirt. I believe Jeffrey is the owner but don't quote me on that. He's funny. I really liked him...he's not going to take your shit! If you give it, you're going to get it right back times two. Just be nice...as you always should be. This place allows smoking and I'm not a smoker. Two in the group smoke. Anyway, what inspired me to write this review, their ventilation system is top notch! I was so happy that I could breathe and enjoy my drink. Jeffrey made me a mixed drink that came garnished with a little rubber ducky! Super cute! With my next drink I got some sort of flame shooter (see photos). I named my ducky "Tony". There are balloons in case someone comes in who's celebrating a birthday. Jeffrey likes things to be "festive"! The balloons are huge...you can see the blue one in one of the photos. went to this place multiple times in one week and multiple times over the years. on the last night we asked the bartender if he accidentally kept our card because it wasn't in our book (said very nicely because we could've easily used a different card and we're not bothered easily at all) he said "oh that sucks" then later found it and handed it over to us. he then (unwarranted) came up and asked if we had a problem. at this point, we just explained to him that we didn't enjoy the hostility, and that we were just trying to have a good night and everything was good. Then we just continue to sit at the bar and have a good time. At this point he grabs our drinks and pours them out in front of us and says "this is why you girls don't have boyfriends." We asked for a manager or an owner and he said he's an owner and "runs the place." We have never experienced such a rude encounter with a bartender in all of Florida. i've been in this bar 10+ times and will never be back. PS his name was Jeff! read more

Despite the musty smell upon first walking in and the big fans trying to eradicate the dampness, I had the best time playing FREE POOL!

We are smokers and were interested in the opportunity to smoke inside; tis a lost pleasure of the past. Neon lights flashing outside, a pirate mural on the side, vague smoke smell inside and a looong counter. Maybe 5-7 people there, on Thanksgiving eve when every other bar was a mess. Seemed like a cool atmosphere but we didn't get to experience it. There were a couple signs posted that were a little obnoxious but I understood their purpose - don't take drinks outside, and everyone is required to show ID. I was fine showing ID but my husband had a temporary paper ID (and we're from out of state) and the bartender told us "I can't take that." Enough other places had taken it that we just left and went elsewhere. I get that paper IDs could be a liability but it is government-issued identification and my husband is clearly over 21... the bartender had an attitude about it, that was the damning part. However, like a good novel, this bar has stories to tell, and many more to be written. No one knows your name, or cares so you are free to be yourself. And while no one knows your name or cares, everyone you speak to, responds positively. Bartenders are non-pretensious and unassuming, however, they are friendly, fast and have great attitudes.
