Among the high number of outlet stores and variety stores that occupy the Swan Street area, Royal Order of Nothing sticks out like a sore thumb (but in a really good way). In fact, all you need to do is pass by and you'll see exactly I mean. Inside, is a wide variety of independent fashion labels that define the store and its fashion-forward image. Asymmetrical design lines and functional everyday pieces are juxtaposed against graphic prints, giving the racks a mixed fusion of styles. Jewellery is funky, chic and daringly different. But don't just take it from me, pay them a visit and see for yourself.

Which is why I'm ecstatic about this Vinnies in Glenroy! Great fashion for cheap cheap CHEAP! I've bagged some designer bargains recently including a pair of Guess Jeans for myself and black Calvin Klein pants for my husband. I probably love it here most for the home furnishings and eccentric homewares and antiques. They have a massive range of really cheap, furniture in good condition including desks, tables and chairs, cupboards and shelving. Take the time to check out the beautiful assortment of heritage glassware. A real gem of a find!

Barely more than a large cupboard of windows, this shop is what the op shop of your dreams would look like. Neatly ordered dresses, skirts, pants, jackets, shoes, ties and the odd retro toy or ornament frame the space except for the makeshift dressing room, made from long and heavy curtains strewn over a rail. The staff are often young and talkative, which is nice if you're in the mood, and there's a refreshing absence of hard sell. Eftpos isn't always available so it's best to come prepared with cash, just in case, and the prices are what you'd generally expect for a retro store. Overall, it's small and easy to browse, and whoever sources the clothes has a really great eye for it.

The shop is located along the iconic Chapel Street, where there's lots of weird vintage shops and eclectic clothing shops, so I figured this would be a good place to scope out some weird clothes. Storehouse didn't disappoint! They had ugly Christmas sweaters on display, and all kinds of old stuff. They not only sell clothes, but have plates, dishes, cups, bowls, and some cookware. They've got a good selection of old books at cheap prices, so if you leave the book on the train, it's not a big deal. The staff was on the ball, running the register and answering questions.

Very typical Salvos experience, really. Where this distinguishes itself (and thus deserves a mention) is the customer service. It's not often that one goes into an op shop and gets friendly, helpful and enthusiastic customer service. I don't mean this in disrespect to op shops, it's just that they're usually staffed by volunteers who have a million things to do and possibly not much experience doing them.

Expect to find gemstones, charms and decorative scarves amongst all manner of bizarre statues and gorgeous accessories. The staff conduct tarot readings in a small room in the back - by appointment only- as well as occasional story telling. There are books on magic and psalm reading and interesting little trinkets fill every surface, bench space and shelf in the store. With a dark shop front and little square glass panes it reminds me of the buildings in Gringotts Lane in Harry Potter and it is hard not to feel as though you haven't just stepped into another realm when you step inside. It is open seven days per week: Monday-Friday 11.30am -4.30pm and Saturday-Sunday 10-30am-5pm. Conveniently located in the heart of Sassafras Main Street it is easy to find.
