I usually just come here to borrow many teen romance books and some VHS tapes. Many of these books are brand new and very clean! You can smell the fresh paper in the books and no wrinkles. I usually borrow the brand new love books, which was my favorite genre. I would always love to read every word and touch the nice smelling paper. Smells so good! And the wrinkly and crispy pieces of paper when you touch them. Borrowed many Gossip Girl books before they were even a series on TV. Those were the days. I wonder how it is right now. Got to visit this branch.

We filled out the online forms on the Brooklyn Public Library website prior to coming to the library branch in person. This makes it faster and easier for the librarian to locate us on their database. After providing a valid state ID (and proof of NYC residency) we were given library cards to sign (at the back white bar). It also came with a mini key chain version of your card. She explained the resources that were available at the library, such as the computers, pamphlets, branch hours and phone number to call to renew books. At this branch you can only drop off books inside during open hours, since they do not have a drop box outside. They have two machines inside, where you swipe your library card and then scan the barcodes of each book. It then prints out a receipt with the due date for each book. It was a very great first experience!

There were some men sitting behind me that looked like they've been there all day, talking loud & cursing at each other. There was a homeless, mentally ill man downstairs by the bathroom. He waited hidden in the corner, at the bottom of the stairwell while I was waiting for the restroom. He wasn't harming me, but his discreet actions made me uncomfortable. There is nothing downstairs that I remember, which means no one else was down there. Be careful, and stay Street smart. There is, from what I saw, only one unisex bathroom. However, after waiting too long, I went to the top floor in search of another restroom & a very nice librarian understood my pee-pee dance. She let me use the special restroom which was very kind of her & changed my outlook on the day. I highly recommend this location - this is a very nice library.

I was clueless and did not find any of the processes to be intuitive like how to get access to the internet or how to pay for your print outs. The staff was patient with me once they realized how appreciative I was for their kindness. Sure, the library is dated and you will likely sit next to someone who smells a bit like poo, but it's a great resource for the community. Fun Fact: you can have 99 books checked out at one time! Interesting offshoot of the Brooklyn Public Library system. Being fairly new, it's fairly nice,…read moreclean, and has high ceilings. It's not super huge, but it's not a terrible place to get a little bit of work done to pass some time. I arrived recently when it was warmer than usual. Unfortunately, that meant the AC wasn't kicking in. That was a bummer. There are a couple meeting rooms along with some space for people to do some work for a short amount of time. There is a play area for kids, so it can get a bit noisy though. Then again, the library has to serve the greater good of the people. The architecture, as some have mentioned, is quite new and modern. It does make it a pleasant experience to enjoy. I don't know if it's super spacious, but it does do the job.

The DUMBO branch of BPL is the newest and latest library (since 1983!) and the sheer newness and…read morebeautifully modern design of the space speaks to that. The waterfront views of Manhattan Bridge and the various study spaces make this library a great choice for working though it does get a little noisy after 2pm with lots of younger patrons coming in then. Four super large, clean, private gender-neutral bathrooms and two water fountains! More libraries need better water fountains!
