Do you want a door with a dozen sharp, jagged screws poking a half-inch out the top, just waiting to slice kids' and cleaners' fingers?
Do you want to deal with 3-hours of flooding from your high-pressure sprinkler system caused, and subsequently ignored by, a negligent installer who drills 3" framing screws blindly into your drywall without finding a stud (PERFECT FIT CANADA)? How about a second 3" screw, just for good measure? How about the day before you leave for a vacation?
Do you want to be told by SLIDING DOOR that you have to deal directly with your insurance and the 3rd party installer's insurance? The negligent installer you were forced to work with because they were the only one provided. The negligent installer you never contracted with directly that SLIDING DOOR insists you did via a credit card authorization form. The negligent installer that is being forced upon all future customers.
Are you 2 very busy professionals with an infant child, wanting to have to coordinate timing and access for nearly a dozen visits to your home for emergency plumbing, fire system specialist x 2, restoration quotation, restoration equipment delivery, restoration framing and drywall removal, restoration equipment pickup, drywall and mudding x 2, painting? That should get you CLOSE to original (aside from floor damage and the fact that you're out-of-pocket a $1000 insurance deductible). BUT you still won't have a door, just door parts littering your home.
Do you want to send all the photos of the damage and get no reply for a month? Do you want to finally get frustrated and have to follow up? Do you want the 3rd party with whom you have an ongoing insurance claim copied on the reply to you??? Do you want to have to actually confirm that you want replacement parts that were clearly damaged by the installer? How about scheduling the re-installation of the door by someone who is actually competent, based on being told a delivery date by for a replacement header, then having the delivery date fall through? How out rescheduling, then when the header finally arrives 3 days late, it is a 6'8" header instead of a 9'8" header?
We paid $3k for a simple 3-panel sliding door. Nothing special. We were fine to pay a premium price with the expectation that we were paying for expertise. There is no expertise here. We ordered in April. It is now 7 months later in October. This has been utter hell for us, and yet it honestly seems like it just plain doesn't really matter to this company or Maria, their VP of Operations who we seem to have to work with who is located about 4,000km away in Toronto (we are in Vancouver).
