What was supposed to be parma ham (yum) appeared to be nothing more than cubed reformed ham, similar to the rubbish you get on cheap, dirty pizzas from a kebab house. Really...how can you even dare to pass that off as parma ham?! The service was terrible, too. The waiters seemed to avoid eye contact so they wouldn't have to serve us - it was almost as if they couldn't face us because they were ashamed of over charging us for a cardboard excuse for a pizza. The only good thing was that it was in close walking distance from the pub where I went to drown my sorrows after putting my stomach through such torture.

I've been here a hell of a lot and so a think it's about time I wrote a review…read more First off, it is what it is. A chain pub offering low cost, pretty nice tasting food. Between me and my family we've tried most of the items on the menu - which does change on a pretty regular basis which is nice. We've been going here since we moved to the area four or five years ago. It's good for kids and cheap to eat out. It's had a refurb since we started going there and is still in pretty good shape. There are TVs with Sky Sports on and they show the main games there - if you support a lower down team beware they always show the advertised game so can change channel in the middle of your game! The food is good value for money but they do seem to try to cut corners at times. Order a "big plate special" and your meat may go up in size but if anything your chips may reduce in size - to the extent the kids meal had more chips than the big plate special. I've given proper feedback to staff and via their web site but nothing has changed. However if you complain they will bring you out extra chips. The steaks are surprisingly good, the battered fish is excellent (better even than the local chip shop) and even the pizza I had there was good. Really can't fault the quality of the food. Probably wouldn't recommend the lasagne or the kids burgers but nearly everything else we've tried has been excellent. The curries are especially good value for money. The play area inside is pretty extensive and good to entertain the kids. They didn't used to charge, then they half heartedly brought in a charge and now they are pretty strict with it. Sadly at £3 per child for ten minutes play before their food is ready is not worth it. It's made going there either more expensive or less fun as you have to argue with your kids that they can't go in. Shame, it used to make us stay longer, spend more money on food and drink while the kids were entertained. The beer garden is very close to a busy road and is just benches outside. Not bad but not great. Yatton and surrounding area has pubs with great beer gardens so this is not the place for you if that's what you're looking for. Service wise it can be patchy, they seem to go through an unbelievable amount of staff. I don't think there's a single member of staff still there from when we started going. Some are excellent and some not so but I have to say if you ever raise an issue they certainly try to help (like the chip example above) and always apologise for any issues. I certainly don't feel worried about raising any issues. If you've got young kids then I think this is a great tea time treat but maybe not the big blow out treat...

In these times of austerity the lamb is absolute winner and I would recommend it. We've eaten here at least 10 times and never had a bad meal. One tip the steaks come out on a sizzler. If you want it rare or medium rare ask for a plate so it doesn't overcook on front of you.
