If you're looking for a relaxed, welcoming place in Carolina Beach, we had a terrific experience at The Spot Bar & Kitchen. We arrived around 4:30 and beat the dinner rush, which gave us a beautiful evening outside. From the moment we sat down, it felt less like going to a restaurant and more like coming home after a long day at the beach. Our servers, Abigail and Allie, were both wonderful--friendly, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcome. Service like that is getting harder to find these days, and they deserve a lot of credit. We started with the fried okra, and there were barely any left by the time I thought to take a picture. Crisp, hot, and some of the best we've had. The Black and Red wings were excellent too--full of flavor with just the right amount of kick. The fries were seasoned and cooked just right. The outside seating has a great atmosphere, and even the little details stood out. The place was clean, including the restroom, and seeing their 97.5 sanitation score posted proudly gave us even more confidence. They even had a Venus flytrap outside--only in Carolina Beach can a restaurant have its own bug patrol on duty. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. We'll definitely be back. read more

Setting a new precedent! They charge $1.50 for a cup of water. No it's not sparkling. No, not bottled. It is RO water. Ok so you have a restaurant at the beach and have to filter your water. I'd think your menu prices would cover that. First time in my life I've ordered tap water and had to pay $1.50 each water. The Spot, bad way to handle your costs. These are built in costs that you need to absorb elsewhere. Charging 1.50 costs you much more than you think! Disappointed. read more

We have been to the Spot no less than 50 times. This is a great spot but.... $14.95 for 8 chicken wings and $9 for a Tropical Lightning beer. I am a long time fan and first time critic. I know about inflation but the prices on those two items are exorbitant. We won't be back for a while with those prices read more

DO NOT ORDER THE MAHI MAHI SANDWICH! They will tell you it's fresh and you will believe them, but what you get is a pre-frozen triangle fish formed patty that is DENSE & DRY. Never tasted something so bad. Sadly both me and my best friend ordered the same exact thing and they looked and tasted exactly the same, like crap. We took 1 bite and we started chewing and chewing and chewing and then we looked at each other with the same looks on our face. I had to spit part of mine out, but what did get through is now stuck in my throat, so I drank lots of their water, which tasted like it was fresh from the sewer, but I had to....to get the fish down. We both are not the type to say anything, but this was AWFUL. So we returned it, and their excuse was "it was dry because there was no Aioli" on it. We laughed at that one and said theirs no Aioli that'll make that pre-formed Fish less DRY & DENSE, I mean.... me and my friend have been on this earth for over 50 years (100+ combined years) and so you could say that we know a few things. I was shocked when the manager stated said would ONLY charge us HALF? I mean, I was embarrassed for THEM that this is what they chose to send out to us, to represent the restaurant, but now we had to pay $21.00/each to endure the bite of an awful fish. So we didn't want to fight or buck their system and just PAID, so I just want to make sure to warn everyone else that is contemplating eating at this place. The nachos were nothing to write home to Mom about, it seemed to lack the cheese part. This location offers inside and outside seating. The inside can get really hot the closer you get to the kitchen. But also very tight fitting area. They had plenty of TVs to watch to keep customers distracted. Ambiance 2 out of 5 They have really nice bathrooms being single parts. 5 out of 5 Service: the wait staff was very nice and had a welcoming vibe. But we did not have 1 waiter and had many people ask us the same question a couple of times. But over all appreciate this as they did an amazing job making sure we where taken care of. We did have 1 problem after waiting 30 mins we found out the food tickets did not process to the kitchen. Took us 1.5 to 2 hours to leave. Some people may like a slower sit down location but during a lunch rush and just wanting to get back to the beach this isn't what we where looking for. Also please note this is not the fault of the server or kitchen staff but as a whole. They where super awesome and gave everyone in our section chips and dip that did softened the blow. Service rating this is a whole being kitchen, management, and waiters 3 out of 5 Food: they had a different selection of food. Burgers, seafood, salads, wings. It was a little all over the place the feels were mixed with bar food and seafood I think I miss understood the atmosphere of the menu. I got the kids grilled cheese with seasoned fries. Simple can't mess it up but also bland. Mahi-mahi with fries. The fish had no seasoning and was a long piece of fish. Kinda wish it wasn't on a burger bun but more of a longer piece of bread to not make it so awkward. And last meal being the fisher man's delight was blackened; this too also tasted very bland (at this point I was worried we might have covid....we don't). Also heads up water does cost $1.50 for "reverse osmosis". Food 1 out of 5 Over all we had high hopes and I really think this is just a 1 time mess up after the 30 mins ticket hold and rush to get the food out from that point. What a great find for a beach town outing! Great food, local atmosphere, staff extremely friendly and helpful! We especially liked the flounder platter! Super delicious. We had dinner outside with our dog one early evening at The Spot while visiting Carolina Beach. The outdoor patio is spacious, covered, and comfortable. Our dog was welcomed, and had plenty of room to lie under our table. I tried the La Playa shrimp pita special, and my husband had the blackened mahi burger. They used four or five large shrimp in my pita that were perfectly cooked, and I enjoyed the red pepper aioli. My dish came with fries, but I opted for coleslaw instead. The pita was too big and thick for me, however, and it was kind of hard to eat without falling apart. My husband enjoyed his flavorful mahi burger. While we don't usually listed to county music, they played nice country hits on the outdoor patio that even we enjoyed. Definitely sit outside if there's room--even if you don't have a dog. Their outdoor patio is one of the best for comfort! I am not sure I would return, however, because I felt their food prices were too high for what you got. read more

The name says it all- This is a great beach bar! The drinks, staff, and atmosphere are great and really make you feel like you're on vacation. Their margaritas are delicious and they also have a nice selection of craft beer on tap as well as cans/bottles. In terms of food I suggest not even looking at the menu and simply going with one of the numerous blackboard specials. Be sure to save room for the homemade cobbler with ice cream for dessert- like the name says- it hits The Spot! read more

We chose this place simply because it was within walking distance of where we were staying on vacation. While the menu is pretty standard for choices, their daily specials are the ones you really want to look at. We sat outside during the storm but didn't feel like it ruined the visit since it was so well covered. Food was good, service was good, definitely recommend. read more

We found this place by driving around. The restaurant landscape at Carolina Beach has changed over the years. Deck House is gone. Easy parking on a Tuesday night. We sat outside on the deck and never went inside but service was very attentive. I got the Mahi sandwich and my wife got the fried flounder. Pimento cheese with Naan bread for appetizer. Good portions and very tasty. Steak Fries. Good drink selection. It was fun to sit outside and people watch but no view of the ocean. For the first dinner of our quick family vacation, we decided to stop by The Spot. We weren't at all disappointed! The outdoor seating on the patio was comfortable. There were a few flies, but we were outside so that wasn't a deal breaker. If the floor fans were pointed more directly at us, it wouldn't have been noticeable. The food! That's the whole reason we go to restaurants, and this food was outstanding. The calabash style fried flounder and shrimp were great. The hush puppies... If you don't order any entrees, just please try the hush puppies. They're quite literally the best we ever had. One kid got the chicken tender basket and the other kid got the burger. Everything was well prepared, well seasoned, hot, and fresh. We had no room for dessert, but that's a good thing. Service was great as well. Several different wait staff visited our table to make sure we were satisfied. Drinks were brought quickly -- and the beer selection was great whether on draft or in a can. WAY TO EXPENSIVE FOR WHAT YOU GET - There are MUCH better places on the Island to get SIGNIFICANTLY better quality food for less $$. Go down two more blocks to the Ocean Grill Tiki Bar! We paid $72 including a good tip for two salads, 7 lil hushpuppies (so like a $1 a hushpuppy) and wings. And we got juice not even any alcohol. The menu is a on the smaller side but they usually have 3-5 daily specials on top of that to choose from. They have also added a lot of additional patio seating since the last time I was there! My family went to The Spot for New Years Eve lunch. The weather was perfect. We sat on the deck. The staff were great. Simple beer menu and the food was on point. We had: house made chicken tenders and fries, blackened mahi sandwich, nachos, Caesar salad and pretzel bites. I never saw food disappear so fast. The only small issue were the fries could be cook a minute longer. But we will be returning to The Spot read more

My husband and I popped in for a quick, laidback midweek lunch. The atmosphere both on the adorable porch and inside is incredibly inviting and comfortable. We chose to sit inside and the bartender was our waitress. She was outgoing, friendly, and on top of things. As other reviewers have mentioned, the menu is on the small side but there were five or six specials. I went with the burger special of the day which had brie cheese and caramelized onion and came on a hoagie roll with a side of au jus. I really enjoyed the depth of flavor from the caramelized onion and the au jus. I thought the burger itself was slightly overcooked; I would have preferred medium or medium well, but the au jus added moisture which was great. I love salty food (I actually have to be on a high sodium diet because of a medical condition), but I could see where this burger, even without the au jus, may be too salty for some. My husband ordered the blackened mahi sandwich and thought it was okay. He liked the freshness of the fish and the toppings but felt it lacked flavor and needed a sauce to pull it all together. We both felt the fries were over-seasoned and didn't really enjoy them. For the price, we were a little disappointed that the food was good but not great. I'd visit The Spot again for the cute atmosphere and friendly service, but I'd want to try other menu items. read more

This new restaurant used to be Saint Cove's. There is no sign with their name yet, at this time it is a sign with a question mark. They have been opened for about 2 weeks now and definitely have quite a few kinks to work out. They were understaffed and service was slow. Took about 25 minutes for our food to arrive. We sat outside for lunch. They allow people to smoke at their tables outside so keep that in mind if you dislike cigarette smoke. The menu has basic food, including salad, wings, burgers, hot dogs. They have specials during the day and different specials at night. The lunch specials on the day we ate were rib eye, oysters or flounder baskets. We tried the Hatteras chowder, which is broth-based. It had 3 fresh clams, small pieces of canned clams, and a few pieces of celery and skin-on potatoes. The soup was good and would have went well with bread or crackers. I ordered the Pier Burger, a 6oz burger with cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, pickles. It was a basic burger, nothing special. They forgot the cheese and I had to go find the waitress to ask for it. I chose broccoli as my side, which had a tasty lemon flavor but was a bit overcooked. My lunch companions order the Flounder basket special and a Mahi burger. The Flounder basket came with fried flounder, hush puppies, and steak-cut fries. The hush puppies were a bit mushy inside and were oversalted. Fries were crispy. My lunch companions thought the flounder tasted good, but the mahi was overcooked. One of the chefs, Michael, stopped by our table to ask what we thought of the food. We told him about the oversalted hush puppies and the overcooked mahi. He was receptive and appreciative of the feedback. When he came back to talk with us, he said he corrected the person who was preparing the hush puppies. He also gave us a complimentary grilled sugar-glazed donut dessert with fresh blackberries, topped with neopolitan ice cream and drizzled with caramel and chocolate. The dessert was delicious. The donut would have tasted better warm but the chef said they didn't have an oven yet. read more

The Spot is our favorite go to brunch "Spot" on weekends. The staff is friendly and helpful. The Bloody Mary is spot on, and even converted my wife to liking them. The steak and eggs are her favorite, and the shrimp & grits are mine. A neighbor told me that they have the best wings ever, and I need to try those. The Spot is a cool Beachs place, awesome vibe and great place to hang out with friends. read more

Fitting name bc this is the spot to be a lot of evenings. This place is regularly packed and for good reason. Good options, good prices, great staff. Drinks are good here (they're strong). We didn't eat a meal here but ordered some small bites and enjoyed all of them. Order the hush puppies -- they're delicious, didn't even have a chance to snap a pic of them they went too quick. This place shines with the wait staff. They're all so friendly. We came back for drinks later on and looked forward to seeing the wait staff again. This is a laid back spot. The ceiling outside is covered in license plates which is cool. They also have designated golf cart parking in the lot (which fills up quick). Recommend this spot for drinks and/or a laid back meal. read more

Also if you don't leave a tip for your bad service, they'll go ahead and put one on there regardless... which is illegal if I'm not mistaken. Do yourself a favor and don't come here.
