This is such a vibe in NSB. You can chill downstairs or go upstairs for a little swanky lounge experience. I've only had dinner here once, but it was surprisingly good. I really thought it was going to be simple "bar food" but it was solid. Not going to be the best meal of your life, but it was good. I LOVE the upstairs. In the five weeks we have been in new Smyrna this place had my favorite food. The host greeted us at the door very warm and friendly. The atmosphere is eclectic. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. The one thing I loved is that we did not feel rushed. The owner visited our table a couple time to see if we needed anything, the second time was to torch the creme brûlée. So fun to watch. I ordered the seafood special, incredible! I wish there were a sixth star. The spot is BY FAR the best restaurant I have been to in FL. Our very favorite. I have never had a bad bite of food here after dozens of visits. It can be a bit expensive especially if you get crazy like I do and start ordering in a fit of gastronomic ecstasy , but here's the thing to remember... I don't regret I dime I've spent. You can eat reasonably with an amazing burger and salad... or go nuts with high end aged steaks and the best fish to have ever graced my pallet... it's that good. The fish is caught locally by a spear fisherman and brought in daily, and the shrimp is fresh and super sweet. I'd rather stay home from 2 mediocre fine dining meals and just wait to come here, it's that good. If only they would bring back the banana cream pie... I may never leave! We made reservations and set up a dinner where it was the chefs choice. chef Vaughn went wild with it. His play on Bánh Mi called the Vaughn Mi appetizer. And a wonderful Mediterranean board. We chose the Spott for a birthday dinner celebration for hubs and were really impressed with the meal. We started with fish bites and a bottle of wine. The server did a great job explaining the specials and even highlighted the video behind the bar of the fish being caught off the coast of NSB. It was a little gory for an upscale restaurant, but interesting to see. My husband tried the dark spotts cocktail in lieu of his usual old fashioned and it had a nice little bite of spice that was unexpected. We enjoyed the red snapper special, filet (with bone marrow butter melted at the table), the snapper chowder and the kids had a burger and chicken tenders. The only disappointment was that the chowder lacked consistency - we were unable to find any true pieces of snapper. At $22 we expected it to have a bit more substance. Overall, the food was delicious but the price point didn't quite match the atmosphere and vibe. We would definitely visit again, but with the many choices in NSB, we're not quite sure it would be a top choice. read more

Perhaps we had hopes too high, perhaps we didn't order well, but for any reason, I'm reluctant to give this even 4 stars. Some very good dishes and wonderful creations, it seemed, but a tad pricey (actually a LOT pricey), compared to other top-notch restaurants in NSB. Three of us decided to try several appetizers for our meal. Sadly, many of them had the same basic sauce (basically honey + hot sauce), so that was tough luck. That's partly our fault for sure but I think at this type of restaurant, the server might have pointed out that we were basically getting 3 items that simply put the same sauce on different items. It was my birthday and I was being treated but even at that, I was reluctant to order entrees costing over $60. It was a good meal but given the variety of choices in NSB, including places with similar menus and offering, we didn't see any reason to return. read more

To start there was Nueske wrapped shrimp for the table. The main course was an amazing family style spread created by the chef for our table of three. The 22oz wagyu strip steak was good, but the 16oz demkota ribeye steak was amazing. Perhaps even more amazing were the potatoes on the serving board everything arrived on. Super thinly sliced, stacked, and just a hint of cheese and baked to perfection. The interesting thing was that the two other people at the table thought the strip was the best one. However, they were obviously wrong since the rib-eye won hands down. Anyway... more seriously, the bottom line was the chef bringing out the steaks before they were cooked and speaking to us about preparation made for the perfect meal. I had an amazing time with my mom and sisters. The food was delish the manager was amazing!!!! They accidentally gave our table away, they were very apologetic, luckily the customers were finishing up, our table was cleaned and we were sat right away. Our waitress was phenomenal, just like the food nothing at all disappointed food wise. I will say I was not happy that the soup of the day had pork in it and that wasn't disclosed I do not eat pork luckily I don't have an allergy or that could have been catastrophic for both parties. I was very surprised that my soup wasn't comped for that inconvenience, she did apologize for the chef didn't inform her it had pork in it. Everything else was great the black drum I had was outstanding, the virgin drink I ordered was a delight to my tongue, the bone marrow appetizer was delectable. Ordered the pork and shrimp with broccoli and the gratin like potatoes. My friend, did not like the food. Their prices are kind of expensive and I expected better quality for the price. The pork did not taste like it was cleaned thoroughly. It had a heavy pork taste. The shrimp had a great batter but they were very salty. The broccoli was OK and the potatoes were good. The portion of pork was so small for the cost. I hope they can consistently produce better quality food for their customers in the future. Our birthday party of 6 started out with the cheese curds and mac n cheese dishes. They were both devoured in minutes and everyone really loved them!! For my main course I ordered the chicken thighs. They came out fried on the outside and juicy in the middle. Very good flavor and crunch, well complimented with a few sauces. We were all full, but it was a birthday! Visiting Florida, and staying in Daytona Beach Shores for a couple days; being Vegan, we were looking for a spot we could eat with family and have options as well. Saw on the Menu(s) shown on Yelp that they have (had) a giant pretzel and a Chicken Less Sandwich...perfect. Made a Reservation, sat down, and saw they DO NOT HAVE A GIANT PRETZEL OR A CHICKEN LESS SANDWICH. Asked the Server to confirm...they no longer offer them! At this point we're all sitting down, and don't want to be a pain and go somewhere else. So we order a side of fries and wait until everyone is done with dinner to go to Prima Pizza Cucina to get a Vegan Pizza. They did offer us a Market Plate, that is just veggies, for $26...way overpriced and doesn't even sound enticing + I would still be hungry afterwards. If you're Vegan, please go somewhere else worth while. The ambiance was loud, but casual (dance music blasting out the speakers behind us, up above); hard to talk over. Water served is tap water, which I've noticed in Florida has a very distinct taste. My NSBeach Water Drink was $15, with a huge whiskey cube in it :( Overall, our experience was sub par, and I wouldn't return. read more

The most fantastic meal of a chefs creation. We were visiting our cousins, staying in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. They took us here as it is their favorite, and I can see why. Chef Vaughn is an absolute artist with food. This was a creation of his, this Swirdfish was caught 36 hours prior to our ordering. They made a video of preparing the fish for serving. We had no say in its cooking style, but I would not have even thought of it. Korean style, homemade tropical salsa with a great variety of greens. The strawberry sauce was inspired and compliments the Korean spice. Service is top notch, Aiden was attentive and friendly, as everyone was. The cocktails are wonderful and bold. Finally got to try out The Spott this Father's Day weekend! Checked out menu ahead of time and saw the pricing of the entrees so assumed it was a less casual and nicer establishment. You can totally come in with casual wear or dress up! They have an upstairs cocktail/small bite lounge with a nice bar and couches for hanging! They have a few TVs hanging (no sports or reg channels) Spear fishing videos from their local fisherman who gets all their local fish from Ponce Inlet! Menu was very well put together and our server explained all the dishes! We went for the Whipped Chevre with sourdough baguettes. Cheese was delicious and the dates were delicious. Only issue was for $15 there just wasn't enough of the very thin sliced baguettes. I asked for a few more and was charged another $3. That was a miss and they need to add a few more. It's freaking bread! Entrees we went with the Fresh Catch and grabbed the Halibut. It was nice size portion, but lacked some flavor, so I had them add the fruit gels to a plate for extra flavor/dipping and the Risotto was very cheesy, but much lemon as it states! Pork Chop was cooked to perfection and green beans and Mac was delicious! My son got the chicken finger/fries kids meal and the fries were perfectly cooked and delicious! Absolutely loved The Spott - We stopped in early Saturday afternoon before the NSB dinner rush. This is a beautiful addition to the restaurant scene off Canal Street, the restaurant had only a few tables filled when we arrived so we were able to seat ourselves. We were greeted as soon as we found our seats by our server Mackenzie, she's definitely one of the many reasons we had an exceptional experience. It's nice they offer a full bar - we ordered a Tito's and cranberry and an Beach Hippie draft - the pours are generous and the draft is ice cold another reason to step inside for a break from the Florida Sun. After looking over the menu and listening closely to all the specials which Mackenzie recited without missing a beat we decided to start with the drunken clams, the broth is amazing and the clams were sized nicely and tender, extra bread for dipping was a dollar and so necessary this broth is drinkable but use the crusty bread. We ordered the fish special which today was Gag Grouper paired with a beautifully prepared mushroom risotto - the fish was perfectly cooked and so fresh, it's obvious there's talent in the kitchen (it's almost sinful how some of the local restaurants struggle with this delicate entrée) I think we've definitely found our favorite restaurant for fish, the side of homemade tartar sauce with it's fine texture really enhanced this dish and the risotto was a home run as well. The second entrée had to be the Chicken Thighs - the Sous vide boneless thighs are absolutely delicious so tender and flavorful and a really nice portion placed on top of the mushrooms risotto that I requested instead of the cauliflower risotto from the menu. I know I'm really going to struggle not ordering this dish over and over again. This restaurant provided a very relaxed dining experience, the interaction with the staff was very friendly, attentive and very professional. Let me start out by saying how badly I wanted this review to rate higher. Buttercup and I spent the better part of the last year enjoying Duval County's food scene. As a large metropolitan area there is an abundance of excellent options. Now that our home base is in Volusia, we are hoping to line up a rotation of similar places here. When I Yelp searched a few days ago, The Spott turned up as Hot & New so it seemed like the next place to try. As previous reviewers have mentioned, the noise was an issue when we first arrived. It was around 8pm on a Saturday evening and the place was hopping. Had we not been able to sit at the bar we probably would've left as it was too loud to talk across a table. Right from the start I would rate the service as excellent. Our bartender/server was Melody and she didn't let our drinks run dry and we enjoyed her company. Perhaps she will write a children's' book about Hank the rescued Greyhound. Eh...maybe not, Hank tends to get into a lot of trouble. Anyways, onto the food... When visiting a place for the first time we tend to stick to small plates / appetizers so we can get a good idea how skilled the kitchen is. On this evening we worked through four different dishes and dessert. First to arrive was the Tuna Tartar. The wasabi foam and seaweed salad were appreciated. But the dish was dressed far too heavily with the sesame vinaigrette. The blue fin tuna should've been the star of this dish but unfortunately its flavor was overwhelmed. Next, we tried the Drunken Sauteed Clams. The clams themselves and the accompanying broth were outstanding. Now when you receive a dish like this you want to finish things off dredging toast points to enjoy a few more bites. They have the right idea; it comes with a product from the local bakery right up the street. The issue was plating. Some of the toast points came partially submerged in the clam broth making the bottom half of them a soggy mess. Small plate three was the Canoe Bone Marrow. This is the that really made me sad. I love this dish. You don't see it all that often. The side garnishes of sea salt and dried peppers were fantastic but I wish they'd cooked it for just a bit longer. Even after torching the bone the marrow was still on the cool side. Bonus points again for Melody for suggesting she pack up the bone for us to take home to our puppies. Last small plate was the Nashville hot fried shrimp. This one hit on all marks. Great locally sourced shrimp with a fantastic coating served with house made pickles and dipping sauce. No complaints at all on this dish although probably required less skill than some of the other selections. We ended the night with a creme brulee. Another plate that was so close to be a winner. The flavor and texture of the custard was spot on. The problem here was it was torched a bit too long. Instead of a yummy, caramelized sugar flavor the bites finished with a burnt acidic after taste. This review has been long, but I wanted to touch base on each item we sampled. It seems as if they have some great ideas and The Spott could be a future Canal Street favorite. But from our experience each dish missed out on its potential for one reason of another. Maybe we caught them on a bad evening? Maybe you'll find we are a bit too picky? I think I'll give them a little more time and give it another shot. We really are trying to fill in our restaurant dance card in the eastern Volusia area. read more

Some friends who I consider locals, recommended this place to us. I was surprised I had never heard of it, until I found out they haven't been open for even a year yet. We drove by and almost passed the place. It wasn't standing out in any way whatsoever, and the two tables outside were not seated so the place looked closed. We parked and walked over and saw their display easel on the sidewalk and realized we found the place. The sign above the door is like some wrought copper creation that does not distinguish it as a restaurant at all. When we opened the door, the place was packed! Lots of people seated at tables, waiting to be seated and at the bar. The host told us to take a seat anywhere we like. We sat at a bar table in the back. We were greeted by many and promised a server would come. Service was great. There were at least two or three people roaming around, checking on tables and helping servers. I was shocked at the sheer amount of specials they had- steak tartare, bison pate, tomahawk steak, ribeye, pork chop, pompano etc etc etc. The menu by itself was great; it's incredible they had so many specials. We had a round of cocktails and ordered some appetizers. Interestingly, the cocktail menu did not have any prices. I had the filthy old fashioned. I'm not a rum fan but I like spin-offs of old fashioneds. My date had the spicy Paloma. It was indeed spicy (I feel like most spicy drinks are not spicy enough) and salted. Pretty good! The bone marrow was a huge bone and the chef came out and torched it tableside for us. How cool is that? See video. We had plates and little spoons for that dish. The drunken clams were amazing. We ate all of them, and then I used the garlic bread to soak up the sauce and get every little bacon bit at the bottom. The garlic bread was so good, I used that for the bone marrow and the steak tartare as well. The steak tartare was a good portion, topped with an egg yolk and adorned with mustard, bread with chopped garlic spread, and housemade onions and pickles. Yum. We sat for a bit to digest and agreed on the barbecue platter special- pork ribs, pulled pork, brisket, sausage, green beans, potato salad and Mac n cheese. It looked huge. We did finish the meat but not the sides. And unfortunately we did not have any room for dessert. As it turns out, the Spott has two Ts in its name because there is already a place called the Spot and the owners name starts with T so it worked. Sounds like they will be opening their upstairs room for dining on their one year anniversary. They definitely could fill it up. By the time we left, there was a wait for a table. The bar was taking to go orders. There were a couple Empty seats for the taking. They have a few TVs near the bar. The restrooms were clean. Parking is along the street. I would recommend this place. Can't wait to go back and try more of their menu. read more
