I have been on this wheel a few times since it has opened and think it's a cool way to see the city. Do I think it should cost $17 for the ride? No. But, I guess the city needs to make money somehow. I just think it's a little too pricey and I have heard people say they won't pay to do it. I think the wheel gets you around like 1-2 total times without stopping, but the rest of the time, they are just loading and unloading so it's a lot of stopping and starting which isn't so fun. But yes, the view from the top is great (especially on a nice clear day or night). read more

It's a little expensive for my liking, it was $65 for a family of 4. That's the only reason I marked down from a 5 to 4 stars. The experience was really neat. We went on a really hot day and I was surprised that it had AC and it was very comfortable. Each pod was clean and well kept. Staff were nice and efficient. It's worth it if you can afford it. Nothing says true love like your partner facing their fears and going up in a tall ferris wheel when they are afraid of heights. That's what my wife did for me when we were visiting Union Station recently, and we survived to tell about it. If you enjoy seeing the city from up above this is a great option. I will admit up front I was a doubter about bringing the Wheel to Union Station. I thought that it would be something that ends up being a giant fiscal disaster like the Loop trolley. So far the second life of Union Station has defied my expectations and it seems to be doing relatively well. We decided to try out the Wheel with my wife's family. It was expensive, but not unreasonable. The movement is smooth, you barely feel like you are moving. You get a number of great views of the area. My son and daughter absolutely loved it. It isn't something that I would do regularly, but as a one of when people are in town visiting or as a treat for kids I think it was a great time. read more

Probably one of the best Ferris wheels and even St. Louis the aquarium is really good. You can see all types of fish, sharks and other things. The food there is pretty good. It had been quite a while since I had been on a ferris wheel. When I first heard that Union Station was getting one, I didn't think much of it. I'd see it all the time while hanging out downtown, but never found myself convinced until recently to check it out. Tickets are $17 for adults but you are able to save by bundling tickets with other attractions at Union Station (which is what we did). The St Louis Wheel stands at 200 feet tall and seemed more impressive up close. There was only a short wait to get on the ferris wheel and, although the night was a little brisk, the climate-controlled gondolas kept us warm (which was a welcomed surprise)! The ride lasted approximately 10 minutes, giving a great view of the surrounding area. Overall, this far exceeded my expectations. Definitely worth checking out and I would recommend doing so at nighttime to see the city lit up! read more

The St. Louis Wheel is a big Ferris wheel that sits at the tail end of Saint Louis union station area. Was in town with my daughters 8th grade trip when we had some time to explore the union station area before and after our aquarium visit. So naturally the teenagers eyes lit up when seeing this gigantic centerpiece for the area. The setup is a bit strange. Outside the wheel is a ticket purchasing area and gift shop. On one side you can purchase just a photo opportunity in front of the wheel and no ride combo. On the other side jok wait and buy tickets to ride the wheel. Tickets weee steep. $15 an adult to ride and $10 for kids agree 12 and under. My group I was chaperoning all wanted to ride so I was nice and got everyone tickets. After all you only have one 8th grade trip so let's make it memorable. There was little to no wait on our Friday mid morning visit. The wheel itself went around about 3-4 times and had decent heights. Instead of an open carriage you are in a closed off carriage so you are not in the weather elements. The ride itself was just ok. I'm not a huge Ferris wheel guy but it did offer great views or Saint Louis including the famed arch of Saint Louis. Overall, I wish this was cheaper. $15 to ride a Ferris wheel is borderline criminal. However it was worth it this one time to help create memories for a group of 8th graders on an out of town class trip. But I can not see myself riding this or paying that price again on my personal/family trips to Saint Louis. read more

The last night my boys were in town, I thought what better thing to do than taking them on the wheel. We didn't get there until 8:45 that evening so a wonderful view of the lights in all directions. It was a cold evening but being this late and a cold evening we didn't encounter a line and got right in within minutes. It's been a long time since I've been on anything Ferris Wheel-like but as a tourist I'm glad we were able to make it over to Union Station to check this out. The little cabs are much nicer than I thought they'd be. There's A/C, a music speaker and an emergency call button. There are two benches on either side. As you move towards the top of the wheel, there are really great views of the city. We could see the stadium lights from the Cardinals game that was going on. We caught a glimpse of the Arch. Located next to the Hilton Union Station and enclosed in an entertainment and dining park with the Saint Louis Aquarium, you can't miss the wheel. With 42 gondolas that each seat six people comfortably, it runs to a height of 200 feet. For your $15, you'll get three or four rotations and at least one stop at or near the very top. From there, a 360 degree view of the Saint Louis skyline including the tall buildings and the Gateway Arch. On this cold evening, the glass was a little fogged and a little streaked. The St. Louis Wheel is bringing people back to Union Station and it is exciting to see. My first ride on the Wheel was an overcast day. My second ride was after the Polar Express Train Ride. We were still able to take pictures of the St. Louis Arch on both rides. The temperature controlled cars are very helpful from the ever changing St. Louis weather. There is a Photo Area and small Merchandise Area all within The Wheel section of Union Station. A small playground is also nearby. Planning a special Night...the VIP Car has a glass bottom floor and Captain's Chairs. All of the passenger cars are easy to enter and exit with plenty of staff on duty to assist. Just an addition of one or two more times around would make the ticket price seem more reasonable... read more

This is a giant Ferris wheel with climate-controlled seating. It's pretty pricey for what it is, but comparable to similar wheels elsewhere. When I rode, I was taken on 5-6 trips around it and got to stop on one of the trips. The view isn't spectacular but you can see the arch and the various neighborhoods of STL from afar. One of the most promising upcoming attractions in St. Louis is the giant ferris wheel at the redeveloping Union Station. I've ridden it during the day and at night, and it was a cool trip both times. I first rode with the Yelp Elites when we had our sneak-peak Aquarium tour Yelp event in October, at night. Seeing the city all lit up at a 20-mile, 360 degree view was definitely a great moment. You can see everything from Clayton, the Anheuser-Busch Brewery to the Arch - as well as the other big Ferris wheel at the City Museum! I also rode it during one afternoon, and it was as good. I haven't ridden on other notable Ferris wheels, like the ones in Seattle, Chicago and Las Vegas. But I'm sure the new St. Louis one doesn't compare as well to those. According to AAA, the St. Louis Wheel is 49 feet larger than the Statue of Liberty (who'd have thunk?), and at nighttime the wheel has 1.6 million LED lights that light up the city. At times, the colors will bring a theme! It doesn't seem like it, but each gondola can hold up to eight people. The St. Louis Wheel is for everyone, young and old. Except, of course, if you have a major fear of heights. The staff does inform that there is an emergency button that can be used at all times. The gondolas are cozy, as they have a 72-degree temperature all year round. If I'm not mistaken, there is even a radio in there! read more

The relatively new St. Louis Wheel is a fun, family-friendly attraction at Union Station. It offers cool views of downtown and a new perspective on the surrounding area. The cars are big enough to comfortably fit six adults, or maybe eight individuals if you're including children (or are just ok being cozier with one another). I think we got about five revolutions, which overall lasted around 15 minutes. The lines can get long during busy hours, but we came in the morning and waltzed right on. One funny note: if you're wearing the right shade of green, you'll blend into the green screen they use for photos! Then if you want to buy your photo, your shirt will show the digital background :). I joined some friends for a birthday ride on the new Ferris Wheel last week. It was a weeknight, but there was still a good 15 or so minute wait. The ride cost $15. I guess that isn't too high (pun intended), but it isn't too low either. I wish it were about 10. The gondolas are mostly plastic so they are transparent. You get really good views in each direction, but I found west the best. The ride is about 15 minutes. We had four adults and one kid. I'm really happy for the city of St. Louis to now have a revitalized Union Station. This place was buzzing with people everywhere. From the new aquarium, to the new Ferris wheel, to the restaurants, there were long lines of people waiting for these great attractions. The Wheel was fun, the line moved quickly, the employees were friendly and helpful. It was a cold, but beautiful day, so from the top we could see a good distance. The heaters inside the gondola worked very well. You can get up to 8 people in each gondola, but it would be pretty tight. We had 7 in our party, 2 men, 1 woman, and 4 kids and we had enough room. The seats are comfortable and the windows offer a nice panoramic view. I hope people continue to come out and support this and other new STL entertainment. We need this and more positivity in our metro area! read more

This was amazing! Tickets were easy to get. You get your photo taken with your party that you can view at the end that has plenty of backgrounds to choose from. The line moved fairly quickly. Once you are on the wheel you stop a couple times to let others on, but then you do 3-4 revolutions. The views are amazing. The gondolas are temperature controlled and play music. On A Clear Day You Can See Forever. So jump into your car and head over to Union Station and ride The STL Wheel. It's a sweet ride. My visit was a Thursday afternoon with my two cousins. It was a slow day, so our group of three was able to have our own gondola, that typically seats six. The gondolas are climate controlled and ours was toasty warm. I was also impressed with how clear/clean the glass windows were. It made taking pictures of the majestic views so easy. The ride itself is smooth and easy. It' a slow ride and times you almost don't realize that you're actually moving. Typically, I am not a fan of heights, but being enclosed in the gondola, I was totally comfortable. The staff assisting riders on and off The Wheel, were extremely friendly. The young man responsible for assisting us was a hoot. His smile was huge. Every time we passed him doing our rotations, he'd show us his big smile and give us a fun silly wave. So, the next time you have out of town guest. The windows were fogged due to weather and the expirations of the previous occupants. Poor visibility and poor infection control in the middle of a pandemic. It's a joy to have the wheel as a new addition to the St. Louis city skyline. It is a beauty to look at. However, tickets are pricey ($15 per adult, $10 per child for a 15 min ride, equivalent to 3-4 rounds). I've been twice, both at night. Honestly, the views are just all right. I think the location is not the best. They could also use some changes according to the season or holidays, for example, Christmas carol playing and Christmas lights and mistletoe in the month of December. So cooool! I visited the wheel on opening day, 9/30/19, with mom. Super fun ride in a climate controlled car. And that a/c was blasting! You can adjust, or completely shut, the vents. The music was a tad loud. Happy, upbeat music that was perfect for a spin, and a great view of the STL skyline, but the volume was a little intrusive, in terms of holding a conversation. I had some issues purchasing tickets online; it turned out that their site was having some growing pains, but we didn't have to wait long at the box office to get them! Wheelchair Accessible! I was having trouble purchasing the tickets on line so I sent a message, through facebook, and they got right back with me. The person who helped me out was fast at answering my message and very helpful. GREAT customer service! That night, opening night, 7 of us went to The Wheel. 2 of us use power wheelchairs. I had contacted someone at The Wheel a month or so ago in regards to wheelchairs and they said that there would be accessible gondolas. On their website it says that it is wheelchair accessible, but I was still very skeptical. We waited in the regular line (no special entrance!), and when it was our turn, the employees grabbed a metal ramp and put it right up to the gondola. ANY gondola - it didn't have to be a certain "accessible" one! As of right now, only one person is allowed to accompany the guest who is using the wheelchair (per gondola). That was kinda a bummer because there were 7 of us, but we just split up into 3 different gondola's (2 carrying my sons who use wheelchairs along with one family member and then another carrying 3 of us). We just Facetimed each other during the ride - it was fun!!!! One suggestion that I do have is to back into the gondola if you can. There is no room to turn the wheelchair around, so when you 'pull' in, you're facing west (mostly highway). If you 'back' in, you'll be facing the Arch and downtown! I was also relieved that the gondolas were enclosed -- I definitely wouldn't have ridden in the open air (or during a wind storm). The only reason I'm not giving five stars is the price. I am all for anything that helps revitalize the St. Louis area, and this was a perfectly nice ferris wheel. It seems that they don't combine parties, at least they didn't when we were there, so my husband and I had an entire car to ourselves, which was awesome, but it seems to me that it just adds to the wait time if you don't make full use of the space. We could have comfortably shared our car with another couple. If you have a larger party, I'm not sure how many they can safely put in a car, but there is room for at least six people, possibly eight. The ride itself is lovely, with cars that are heated or air conditioned depending on the time of year. With walls mostly of glass, the view was unobstructed, but it isn't in a very scenic part of town. You get a partial view of the Arch, but it's far away. Mostly what you are looking at in the more immediate area is a bunch of dilapidated old buildings with broken windows, and the unsightly roof of Union Station. We were there on a Saturday afternoon and it was packed, but the line moves quickly. One thing we didn't care for is that they pipe music into the cars, and the music they have chosen is extremely urban in style. It seems to me that they could choose a music style that is popular with a broader range of clientele. Or they could make it an option to turn it off in your car if you don't care for it. I would much rather have had no music at all, but that wasn't an option. I kind of expected that once they had loaded all of the cars, we'd be making one full rotation and that would be it, but we actually went around four times, which was very nice. Some people complain of the price, but I think the prices are typical of a big city tourist attraction like this. It is $15 for adults and $10 for children, and we didn't have a problem with that. The Union Station Aquarium, which is part of the same complex, is a much bigger ripoff at $25 for adults and $18 for children, because it is much smaller than most aquariums of that type in other cities. The Wheel seemed appropriately priced to me. There is a photo stop while you're in line where you have the option of purchasing the photos after your ride. There are also snack stands and a gift shop, and inside Union Station there are restaurants. More expansion is anticipated in the future. read more
