I had an unfortunate experience during what should have been a basic oil change on my F-150. The service included a brake inspection, and my wheels have security lugs. I was told I needed new rear brakes, so I planned to replace them myself on Saturday, 12/29/25. When I went to start the job, my security socket was nowhere to be found. So much for my Saturday project. The shop was closed for the weekend, so I couldn't resolve it. I met with the owner, Dan, on Monday. He ordered a new set of security lugs in hopes that the key would work. It did not. The tech had misplaced my original key during the brake inspection. Needless to say, it was a major inconvenience--and I didn't receive so much as an apology from the owner. This was my experience as a first-time customer. A $50-off coupon will not bring back my business. read more

Worst shithole ever. These guys are worthless. The place is a dump and have no mechanics thst know anything. The p.o.s. in the front office Is real big winner. Was given a quote and when I came back to pickup my truck it was 500 bucks more and they didn't even fix the problem. It looks like they didn't even touch it. You can tell everything they needed to remove to fix the problem they didn't. All the bolt heads still had dried dirt on them from before I brought it in. These guys are a breath of fresh air. I had right front wheel play and a rattle. Auto Works charged me $50 for "Suspension check" and said I needed a new inner tie-rod, $1200. I contacted the shop via Yelp for a simple quote on a repair, I was asked for: - My name - My phone number - My email address - My home address - Vehicle license plate I've gotten quotes from two other shops with none of that and not needing a full interrogation for followup contacts. If I decide to use your quote, THEN I'm happy to hand that over. And needing the VIN to lookup parts and pricing in a manual for shop labor on a car I know make/model/year on? All that sounds like is Facebook-esque info gathering. On the plus side, they were quick to respond to my request and they were cordial on the phone, until I balked at the info gathering. I understand wanting CRM info, but honestly, unless I take your quote, I'm not your customer. read more

My car broke down in Vadnais Heights, yesterday, a Sunday. Most service stations were closed and I became discouraged. My dad did a search and this was the first place to pop up! They were easy to contact and even towed my car when The Shop was actually CLOSED. They had my car in and out in one day and even DELIVERED my car to my workplace. I never had to leave work, worry about trying to get from Minneapolis to Saint Paul, not a worry at all. I have never in my life had such great service. The shop is real nice and not far from St. Paul, MN at all. They were able to get me in the day I called and fix my air conditioning which needed a recharge. I likely would have waited for my usual mechanic had I known the cost up front. Final cost was $100 more than the exact same work my mechanic quoted. Overall pleased with the work. read more

I contacted the owner, Dan, because my daughter had a broken muffler she needed fixed but she was only home from college for 36 hours. Dan replied to my quote request in less than an hour with what seemed like a reasonable quote. We dropped the car off after hours with the promise it would be done the next day. The next morning Dan contacted me to let me know when the car would be done and that if we paid cash, the total would be a little lower than the estimate previously given (using a credit card costs a little more). My thrilled daughter brought over the cash and her car is as good as new. Each time I contacted Dan with a question, he promptly answered within 30 minutes. He was courteous, professional, and did the job promised for the amount promised. This was our first experience at The Shop but we will certainly return there next time our car needs service. Terrible experience. Looked at buying a car from them. They said the head gaskets, timing belt, and brakes were all new and had been done within the last 1,000 miles. Took it in for a routine inspection from a 3rd party auto shop and found out that none of those things had been done and I would end up having to put in at least $1,700-$2,000 myself to fix them. Brought it back and Dan refused to admit he was wrong and didnt care at all about the inspection or what this 3rd party shop had to say. Btw, the shop I brought it to was Carlson Auto in Cottage Grove. They have a 4.6 star rating with more than 90 reviews to their credit. So I trust their opinion. When I said I'd still be willing to buy the vehicle for the listing price minus the cost I'd have to put in to fix it, he flat out said no and that he'll just wait for someone else to buy it for what he's listing it at. From my limited experience, this place is not at all honest and I'm disappointed and frustrated at the time I've wasted and their complete disregard for facts brought up by a reliable inspection. Honestly, they told me that not everything was exactly worth fixing it, so I got both of front wheels replaced in addition to axle shaft. Prices were perfect. What a piece of work. I had a flat tire, and needed a tow to the dealership. I contacted this shot and they said they would be able to take care of it for me. I gave them the details of where my car was at, what color, plate #, and went over the location again. I was then told to leave my keys under the mat, and that they would tow it for me. I call the shop that was doing the work on my car FIVE. DAYS. LATER. and they said they never received my call and assumed i had canceled my appt. Dealing with the police and my missing vehicle, the dealership and my folks was overwhelming. My dear old mother called the shop to try to work with the owner, and was promptly told "If her son could handle his own problems, maybe he wouldn't be in this situation bxtch" This company insulted MY MOTHER. I will never reference this place to my friends and coworkers, i will always explain this situation to anybody who is looking for any automotive services. This company will never get any service from myself or anybody i can get into earshot of me. read more

Had a great first experience at the Shop. I received a quote from Dan on a Thursday evening and had my car repaired the very next day. The parts I had replaced came with warrantee options. What I paid matched the quote spot on and a first time customer discount of $20 off the first $100 spent was a nice addition. The work done was quality! I don't ever write reviews but this caused me to write my first ever review: My power steering pump and rack and pinion went out on my vehicle, The Shop gave me the best estimate for $900 for a new rack, pump, and steering alignment (it has to be done after the new rack is installed). The first week after it was repaired they forgot to secure the power steering fluid line. I drove it without knowing from the cities to St. Cloud the pump ran dry but didn't notice until I came to a lower speed. I took it back The Shop, they attached the hose and told me the pump is making a noise but would go away but it never did go away. 4-5 months later the pump bursted. I took it back, they installed a new pump under warranty. Again 4-5 more months passed and the power steering was making a whining noise The Shop filled the power steering fluid because it was low and send me away, they couldn't find a leak. About 2 months later I was on a trip and again my pump bursted I paid for a new pump out of pocket because I was too far away from the cities. I took it back to the The Shop after getting back and was told it was still under warranty but they couldn't get a reimbursement because it wasn't done by them. About 2 months ago I was having a regular oil change and was informed there was very small leak coming from the rack and pinion after I told them my long history with pump issues they were almost positive it was never the pump but a faulty rack that cause the pumps to run dry and burst afterwards. I called The Shop informing them of the new details hoping they would warranty a new rack and pinion but they wouldn't honor it because it was passed the warranty! My questions are how did they misdiagnosed the leak after bringing it in numerous times? How is it now not under warranty when they misdiagnosed the issue from the beginning? The Shop offered to do the work again for a discounted price but it was quoted for the same amount as I originally got it done for and I much rather pay someone else more to do it right the first then to deal with The Shop again! read more

On Wednesday, we brought the car in and they had the repair done in record time and for a very reasonable price! My family doesn't take our vehicles anywhere else! read more
