Everything turned out perfectly. We had our ceremony by the lake with just a few family members and it was a beautiful day, we moved to the lodge for the reception, and everyone had a great time. The space was just the right size for everyone (we had 90 guests). The outdoor area had tables which a lot of guests spent time outside, which was very nice. These days I live in California, but every time I'm back home, I make it a point to stop in for a drink and a trip down memory lane. I met up with a few of my high school buddies on a Wednesday night while the students were away, so it wasn't packed but that actually made for a more relaxed night. The staff was upbeat and welcoming, and you could just tell everyone behind the bar was having a good time. There was a live acoustic band playing (though I didn't catch the name), which added a great vibe to the evening. The Phyrst is known for its nightly live music. The bar has been completely renovated since my time working there, and I have to say, the new layout is a huge improvement. It flows better and definitely handles a crowd more comfortably on busy nights. I even had the chance to chat with some of the bartenders and share a few stories from my time behind the bar. It's crazy how much has changed and how much has stayed the same. The Phyrst remains one of the most iconic bars in State College and has been a go-to spot for generations of Penn Staters. Whether you're a student, alum, or just passing through, it's a must-visit.

Getting in, the bag policy is pretty common, a clear bag or a tiny wallet and then walk through a metal detector. They scan your ticket at the door and the madness of a 30-minute wait for a wristband to get alcohol and another half hour for the actual drink begins. Last night, we were there for a concert: From Ashes to New, Three Days Grace and Shinedown. We bought our tickets at the door for half the price they're offered for on-line. The lady in the ticket office was extremely knowledgeable about seating and recommended the sidestage area. The tee-shirt line took 20 minutes. By the time I got my shirt, it was time for the show to start. I could see perfectly from our seats. Hubby missed half the first band because of the chaos over what wristband was needed for a 50-year old man to have a beer. The music was incredible. The acoustics are perfection and you can literally feel the base hit your chest. The lighting has always been a problem there. They didn't consult a photographer. We'll still go back for events because we bleed Penn State blue and white, but hope they fix the chaos.

Let's wait and see what kind of bugs we wake up to in the morning. I will edit or add to my review after we check out tomorrow and let, can't wait to see what management does with this.

Our second night, the sensor must have been tripped by people walking too close to our door (they went on as soon as you entered the room), since the lights went on without either of us getting out of bed twice. This woke me up and disturbed our sleep. Very annoying. Lionne's food was great, but the service was definitely not very good. Friendly, but not good - especially for breakfast. You pay for parking too. They charge you per night and give you two tickets to get out. You have to pay any other time. They did charge slightly less than you'd pay otherwise, but not much. If not walking to your events on campus, I'd recommend staying elsewhere.
