This is why I like The Met Stop Diner. Someone decided to take a vacant space in Wythenshawe's town centre Civic Centre shopping precinct and build an American themed diner. Something different! A new angle! When you walk in, it's nice to see that they haven't half-baked it, they've gone for the full classic American diner interior, with red, white and chrome seating, condiment baskets, and a big mural of the New York skyline on one wall. The menu does try to cater for multiple tastes, with some classic English cafe classics such as the Full English Breakfast, but they have a good selection of American breakfasts too, as well as hot dogs, burgers, deli style sandwiches, and a few house specialities. My favourite part of England meets America was that on the tables there was one of those little silver ice cream dishes, which we came to realise were specifically for putting your tea bag in after taking it out of your tea! WHY DON'T MORE PLACES DO THIS?! This is such a simple idea, but I've only seen The Met Stop Diner do it so far, and they're American themed! There were three of us on this day, and we were all ready for breakfast, and so chose the American pancake stack, the Full English Breakfast, and the American Breakfast, as well as three mugs of tea. The tea came out first which was good as we all needed a brew, but as the breakfasts were cooked fresh to order, we'd drunk our tea by the time our food came out. A pot of tea might be a better idea, but it's not very American! The Full English was a standard cafe breakfast to be honest, but still decent homely stuff. The American breakfast was so substantial that it couldn't be finished, but it was agreed that the pancakes were great, as they were also on the stack of pancakes. Very enjoyable indeed. We'll definitely pop in again when we're next in the area, as the rest of the menu looks great too! The only thing I would suggest is reprinting the menus (as they were looking a bit dog-eared), and checking the spellings (Chicago, not "Chicargo"!), but if that's really the only thing I can find to suggest as an improvement, you're definitely doing something right, Met Stop! To salve this, I looked up restaurants in Leeds that might serve them -- enter Rosie's! It's good to have friends that cater to the last minute, oft-weird whims of a lady and her oral desires. (Don't be rude.) My good pal Laurie was up for the jaunt, and so we adventured across town to the Kirkstall complex that houses this joint. It's almost a fun experience. I like the bus (you can sit inside it) and I like the booths and I even like the ultra-cheesy, very-nearly-Pulp-Fiction feel of the decor. Except, once the shine has settled, you feel very much like you're in a TGIFriday type of chain. (I wasn't so keen on that.) That said, the staff were very lovely and accommodating. I loved the fries -- this sounds silly, but I really think they can be hard to master. These were every bit of your filthy, greasy-but-crispy, desire. The burger was solid. It tasted like a solid, greasy, stodgy affair, although by no means was it at Shake Shack levels of nirvana, and the like. Mac and cheese: I've had better. The chicken and waffles: so, those weren't on the menu any more. Sad! However, I asked the waitress if I could order a waffle with maple syrup to come with our mains, and good ol' L-town ordered fried chicken, and so I was able to create my own. Plan worked a treat: whilst the fried chicken was almost certainly from a packet (it did not taste/appear to be made from scratch) it absolutely scratched the itch. Chuck a couple of those b-boys on a waffle, lather it -- nay, suffocate it -- with maple syrup, and you'll get a little closer to the kind of disgraceful treats you can get across the pond. Nope, it's not authentic. But it was what I wanted! There you have it, folks. And, I'll say, of all the eateries in the complex (bar Five Guys, because BURGER HEAVEN) this one's probs tops. Enjoy!

I ordered a Pug hot dog and she ordered a steak and egg. My hot dog was decent (i must say though putting the cheese between the dog and the bun was a bit weird instead of on the top) and the size was very good but my friend on the other side wasn't as lucky as me. She asked for a medium steak and got a well done with an over easy egg on top and got an over medium. The steak looked a but dehydrated and she had to ask for some lemon to give it a boost to the flavour and she made a comment as she was eating her side of corn on the cob that the corn wasn't very fresh. I'm not sure i would go back to try something else unless is FOR SCIENCE!!!!

I really like the concept here, but reading other reviews indicates that maybe they don't use it to the full potential. I absolutely love American Diners as they take me back to my glory days in the states, so I do hope that when I come back to try the food they've made a few improvement as I would love this to become my new spot when I need my Yank-fix. I popped back last week to try them out at lunch time and to see if it was as much fun as the launch night. I ordered a red pepper houmous, avocado and montaray jack cheese toasted sandwich, or 'grilled cheese' sandwich as the americans would call it. It wasn't as cheesy as I had expected, maybe my mind has been warped by that of Northern Soul Grilled Cheese, just around the corner. My friends ordered a hot dog and a burger, both of which were good. I like this place, and will be back to try their American breakfasts, but compared to so many other eateries in Manchester and in the NQ it just wasn't as great as the hype. But, still worth going!

It started almost immediately when we came to order. We asked for another five minutes to read through the menu and after the time had passed we waited, and waited and continued to wait. Dispite trying to get the waitresses attention again and again. Eventually, just before we were about to leave, we did get seen by a different member of staff who took our food order and drinks. When the drinks arrived we had been missing milk from our tea for two so we tried to get the waitresses attention, at first we thought she would come and check to see if everything was alright and bring us the milk for our teas. She even passed us several times dealing with people on tables around us and we kept asking for her and trying to get her attention and eventually I had to go to the bar with all the staff "hanging around the bar" to ask for some milk to now add to our now lukewarm teas. When the food arrived, most the chips fell off from my daughters meal onto the table and my wife's cutlery was thrown on the floor. The waiter just said it wasn't his day and went to get a new knife while we scooped up the chips off the table to put onto her plate. On my own meal the ribs were really nice however the chicken was pink inside and not cooked properly and the plate was covered in grease. We tried to make the most of the meal but the overall attitude of the staff seemed to hang over our meal and my daughter has a disability and felt self conscious about the staff waiting at the bar looking over and talking. Although she didn't know that the conversation was about her it didn't stop her feeling like it. Overall I couldn't recommend this restaurant to anybody and it is a real shame because I believe with decent staff that cared about their customers this would have been a completely different story.

this was the first diner i've been to since i've been in manchester & it reminded me of many…read moresimilar ones back in the states! i really enjoyed the diner atmosphere as it's really popular, especially during the lunchtime rush among families. we waited for a few minutes before being seated at a booth table for two which was super cute! i wanted to try the beet root burger as it sounded really nice and i asked our server for her opinion on it (who was amazing, given how busy it was she still wore a smile and had a sense of humor!) and she spoke honestly abt haven't had tried it but most of the vegetarians really enjoyed it so i decided to get that! my friend always ordered a hot dog as he told me and it surprised me when i saw that it was actually a foot long hot dog! it took a bit for our food to arrive, about 10-15 minutes but it was a really nice tasting burger! i did enjoy it and am glad we came to eat here while we were new years shopping at cheshire oaks!

It was incredible) The food was very simple. The burger was normal sized as were the fries. There was no pretense, this was just a diner serving basic American food. Having not tried ALL the eateries in Cheshire Oaks it'd be wrong for me to call this the best place to eat there. But i bet it'd be pretty close. The locale is never gonna be one for 'fine dining'. Which is fine by me, I'm not exactly a huge fan of culinary pretension. But after a few laps of the shops and with hunger drums beating you'd be a fool if you ignore the delights of Ed's diner. Whilst in Wigan for an appointment, I decided to look online for places to get some breakfast or…read morebrunch whilst I was in the area. I don't know the area well, but it seems there's some good choices. The one that stood out for me, and was closest and open, was Caffè Rosso on Wigan Lane. From the outside, Rosso is unassuming, but the first thing I notice is that at this point of the morning it can't have been open long, but there were already people dining in the outside seating, and two tables occupied inside. The inside of Rosso is modern with retro and vintage touches, but as well as being clean and pleasantly decorated and furnished, it feels welcoming. The details around the room such as newspapers and magazines for customers to read are nice, but its small details like free wifi, and books on things like trips around the British Isles that make you realise that not only are you welcome, but if you want to stay a while and relax, you're welcome to. When I mentioned to one of the owners that I liked the feel of the place and the décor, he thanked me and said that it was a carbon copy of their living room at home, but without the television. I think I can believe that, because it's very welcoming and comfortable. Upon reading the breakfast menu (a specific "good morning!" menu, which I like the idea of), and the main "welcome" menu on the table, the two words I would use to describe Rosso are "provenance" and "passion". The details given in the guide exude pride at listing where their foods and ingredients are sourced, their views on ethics and quality, and emphasising the home-made elements, and the awards they have earned. I like this. If you have something of quality and you know it, then by all means, shout it from the rooftops! As it was morning, I opted for some granary toast with marmalade and a pot of tea. I liked that I was able to ask for decaf tea, skimmed milk, and sweetener, without it being an issue that it can often be at small establishments like this. Sounds healthy doesn't it? Only thing is, I had my eye on a particularly nice looking slab of Belgian chocolate tiffin in a cake cabinet on the main counter next to an equally delicious looking key lime pie. Well it'd be rude not to, wouldn't it? I ordered with one of the owners at the counter. He was friendly, welcoming, and professional. The tea was perfect as to be expected, but the tiffin was really excellent! Rich and chocolatey, it was the perfect little treat, and knowing it was home-made was another nice touch. I'd be tempted to come back just for this little beast, but in seeing that they also do Afternoon Teas, I'm sure I could be persuaded to return a few times... just for research purposes of course! As it stands, I wasn't expecting to find anything amazing early on a Monday morning in Wigan, but I found a real gem. I must explore Wigan more! You've got something good on your hands, Rosso, and you deserve your awards and praise! I only came for a brew and some breakfast, but I left feeling great! I will definitely be back
