From the moment you start walking up the stairs to the first floor, the walls are covered in paintings of all styles, sizes and themes. They also frequently hold exhibitions, such as portrayals of Rochester or specifically from local artists. You can count on a glass of champagne and an urge to buy a vastly overpriced canvas. The second shop is an art supplies shop, there are also paintings and Dali-style clocks in the window. Inside, you can buy paper, paints, an easel, a canvas and many other things. Students get discount but even so I can't really imagine many of them shopping there - budget this ain't. It all seems to be good quality though and the staff are happy to help. Expect the same atmosphere as a library - you'll feel compelled to talk in a whisper.

The customers seem to want to keep themselves to themselves and don't communicate with other customers. I think a notice board would make artists etc be a lot more friendly. Staff are helpful and knowledgeable, although they seem to prefer talking to themselves rather than having a chat with the customer. Some art shops have a small cafe and it would benefit from one, just to make it more relaxing rather than feeling on the coldish side,

Have nothing but praise, they do amazing deals on delivery and price reductions and I have always found their staff really helpful. I know they do a lot of good work for schools and colleges too.

My favourite has to be the pick and mix section for card and paper and Im forever walking out with a bargain priced box of beautifully coloured papers!
